Texas-based songwriter Jimmy Papa is suing WWE over unpaid royalty rights for 11 songs he wrote that appeared on the WCW Slam Jam 1 CD. Papa claims that WWE and associates told Broadcast Music, Inc. that they wrote the songs and resubmitted them with new registration numbers, thus depriving him of royalty payments. Powell's POV: The author of the story reached out to WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt but was unable to speak with him before the story was released. Papa is claiming rights to "Badstreet USA" as well as WCW themes that were written for Cactus Jack, Ron Simmons, and Jake Roberts. Thanks to Dot Net reader Matt Scott for sharing the story.
