Gus Ramsey, who works as a producer for ESPN among other things, claims that WrestleMania 28 did 1.9 million buys. Ramsey tweeted the following yesterday: "accidentally deleted my earlier tweet. Rock and Brock each sign 1 year deals. WM28 did 1.9M buys. WWE was targeting 1.5M." You can see the tweet at http://twitter.com/GusRamsey/status/187214604840083456.

Shore's Slant: A number of points to make here. First, this guy provides no source for his number, saying that's what he "heard." So take it with a grain of salt. Second, even if his numbers are true, these will be preliminary numbers which almost always adjust down when the final numbers come out.

Third, the WrestleMania buy rate record is 1.2 million for WrestleMania 23. I'm willing to believe they beat that record, but to shatter it by 700,000 buys seems unlikely when Rock appearing last year didn't reach the record either. I realize he was wrestling thins year, but that number still seems awful high. I am looking forward to seeing if this show did break the all time high.
