Jim Ross noted in his latest blog that two major pro wrestling stars died on this date. Bruiser Brody was murdered in Puerto Rico in 1988 at age 42. Wrestler Jose Gonzalez was tried and found not guilty.
Meanwhile, Terry Gordy died on this date in 2001 at age 40. He was major draw as a member of The Freebirds in the United States, and was very successful in Japan. Gordy is the father of WWE wrestler Ray Gordy, who works as Jesse on the Smackdown brand. You can read Ross's comments on both men by visiting JRsbarbq.com.
Powell's POV: Brody was one of the most intimidating performers of his time. He worked as a babyface in most territories during his legendary feud with Abdullah The Butcher, but I also remember him fondly from his heel run in the AWA as a member of Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie's army.
Like Brody, Gordy was one of the best big men in wrestling. He wasn't the same wrestler by the time he worked as "The Executioner" during a short WWE run late in his career. However, there is plenty of great footage available of his run with the Freebirds and in his legendary run in Japan.
