WWE Superstars Hits

Overall Show: I have to start with the show because Superstars has stunk for some time and this was a departure from that stinkage. All three matches were entertaining, and the hour went by really fast. That’s how I can tell how good the show is. When I am surprised I am writing [Q4] (quarter-hour four), it’s a good show. And that’s exactly what happened last night.

Kane vs. Shelton Benjamin: This was the match of the night, which is a little upsetting. Here we have two perennial mid-carders, going 11 minutes, and stealing the show. Granted they didn’t exactly have the toughest competition, but these guys deserve better looks. No, I’m not advocating either for the world title, but I think both could benefit (and WWE could too) from their getting a sniff of the main event scene. This match was there to hype the MITB match, and it really didn’t do that, but it did entertain and set the stage for the rest of the show.

The Bella Twins vs. Katie Lea and Jillian: I should have done a better job of covering this match, but it seems like every time I try to give the Divas a chance, they break my heart. And it’s hard to take the Bellas seriously after being celebrity whores for 38 weeks. So I sat there jaded while these women put on a pretty good match. I wouldn’t call it a stiff match, but there wasn’t the normal eight feet of air between them when they did a spot. I’ll give the next Divas match the proper respect. I’m sure that means I’ll get Kelly Kelly vs. Eve, but I’ll soldier on for you. Again, a quality match from these women.

Mark Henry, Yoshi Tatsu, and Christian vs. Jack Swagger, William Regal, and Zack Ryder: This wasn’t the spot fest I was afraid it would be. Rather, they managed to tell a story in the ring, and keep me interested all the way through. These random six man matches usually stink so they didn’t need to do much to rise above that, but they did nicely and spotlighted Tatsu and Ryder well. We know who the other guys are, so this did nothing for them but get them on TV. A good match to close a good hour.

WWE Superstars Misses

Chris Jericho hype video: I really hope this spot goes back to the young guys after Wrestlemania because that’s what it needs to be used for. I appreciate the need to hype Mania and its participants, but surely not every moment has to be used for that purpose. WWE is about to be in a geriatric emergency and really needs to get to making new stars now.
