Rey Mysterio and WWE are still squabbling over his contract. As reported exclusively by Prowrestling.net last month, Mysterio feels he is underpaid compared to other top performers in the company, and he is seeking significantly more money than WWE officials are willing to pay.
There may be some rough feelings stemming from Mysterio working through a torn biceps injury earlier this year and being promised that he was going to be part of the WrestleMania pay-per-view. The storyline took a twist when
Powell's POV: It may seem like a long shot, but Mysterio has told friends that he's open to the idea of returning to Mexico's AAA promotion if he doesn't get what he wants from WWE. Cooler heads could prevail and he still has plenty of time left on his contract, but he's clearly frustrated at this point, as he feels insulted by not making as much as some of the top performers in the company. As previously noted, WWE officials view Mysterio as injury prone. They recognize his value to the company, particularly from a merchandising standpoint, but they want him to prove he can stay healthy.
In related news, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported last week that Mysterio has still not made a full recovery from biceps surgery, which is why they kept his recent Raw match with Santino Marella simple. He should be cleared to return full-time within the next few weeks.
