Paul Heyman issued the following statement exclusively to Prowrestling.net regarding the Slam Wrestling article written by former WWE creative team member Ranjan Chhibber.
"I'm proud of the fact that I went to the UN. I think it speaks volumes for Ranjin that he attended and that he attends several events at the UN. This is obviously a pet cause of his because of the discrimination that he has faced in his life, some of which I've personally witnessed. The stories with Bill Watts are well known. Watts's track record regarding this subject is undeniable, as are his contributions to the pro wrestling industry.
"If I was looking to do a hatchet job on Watts, I have an open forum blog with editorial control where I could write all day long with unlimited verbiage about my contempt and disdain for the man. I truly don't care that he's going into the Hall of Fame. It has no affect on me or my children or anybody that I know. Good for him. If the Cowboy has indeed found the cross, Oklahoma is a better place to live today. Of course, I don't know how much that says."
Powell's POV: The open forum Heyman refers to is his UK Sun blog. I reached out to him to find out whether the timing of the article was intentional given that Watts is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this weekend. Regardless of the intent or timing, the article raised awareness regarding an ongoing issue in pro wrestling.
