Current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Edge announced on Raw that he was being forced to retire due to his neck being injured. A WWE.com story states that Edge had been suffering from numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands, known as neuropraxia.
Edge had his C5-7 vertebrae fused in 2003 after suffering a broken neck. He received an MRI in Atlanta this past Monday and the results were sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and head of WWE's Wellness Policy. Dr. Maroon determined the risk to Edge's health was too great and declared him permanently ineligible to wrestle.
Shore's Slant: Staggering news from Edge. As a fan, I'm devastated that I will never get to see him wrestle again. As a human, I'm thrilled beyond words that they found this before he had the ladder match with Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules. Thank you Edge for the many enjoyable years.
