WWE released the letter it sent to Congress in which Vince McMahon declined their invitation to appear at today’s hearing. The letter, sent January 23, 2008, noted that Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, and Stephanie McMahon appeared individually in front of the Congressional Oversight Committee staff last year.
The letter notes that “the executives answered a side range of questions posed by the Committee, and it is our view that the transcripts of those interviews will provide a substantial amount of the information relevant to your Subcommittee’s inquiry.” To read a copy of the letter WWE sent to Congress, visit BusinessWire.com.
Powell’s POV: The Congressmen who criticized Vince could have noted that he had appeared in front of another committee at one time. Yet as I noted earlier today, this committee still has every right to call a meeting with him to discuss new findings and any other issues. I was told by one source that some Congressmen were planning to make pro wrestling the focus of today’s hearings had McMahon not declined the invitation. I’m not sure whether ESPNews will cover a meeting between Vince and Congress, but I sure hope they do because it would be a newsworthy event.
