Jim Ross discusses the need for to add new wrestlers to the WWE main event mix, identifies two wrestlers who are moving up the ladder on Smackdown, the need for a WWE scouting department

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.

-Ross on the need for new main eventers: "I can't remember an era within the business that there has been more of a need to add to the main event mix and to create new top level bouts especially on PPV. This goes along with creating new stars which one would think is logically every wrestling organization's top priority. Wrestling is a star driven, attraction friendly entity that thrives on personal issues between people in which fans have a vested interest. This sounds like a simple equation but it isn't."

Powell's POV: It speaks volumes the person who headed up the WWE talent relations division during its most successful time can't remember an era that was more desperate for new main event talent. Some in the company feel that talent needs to step up and grab the brass ring.

There's definitely something to that, but at some point the company has to take the equity they've built in the current main eventers and cash it in to create new stars. It would do wonders for an MVP or a Jack Swagger if John Cena or Triple H put them over in a meaningful manner, and doing so wouldn't do long term damage to Cena or Hunter.

-Ross on Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison: "As it relates to Friday Night Smackdown, it seems as if Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison are lining up to be the next talents to move up the ladder. Both are getting more opportunities to shine and are doing a nice job of producing positive results."

Powell's POV: Two great choices based on what we've seen lately. Morrison is an obvious pick, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Ziggler can do once he starts working with a new opponent. After all, there was only so much he could with Great Khali. Going back to my previous point, I can't help but think these two are better off being on the Friday night brand where there doesn't seem to be as much of a glass ceiling as their is on Monday nights.

-Ross on a WWE scouting department: " Will the next major trend in the biz be an elaborate and through scouting department that looks high and low for the next wave of prospects? The potential to earn big bucks in sports entertainment is a nice selling/recruiting point for an extroverted, skilled athlete with drive, character and a sense of entrepreneurship."

Powell's POV: What a great move this would be. It's obviously worked in professional sports for many years. Perhaps the upper brass in WWE should less time trying to be Hollywood and more time emulating pro sports franchises. Just my two cents.
