Former WWE creative team member Seth Mates told a story in his Newsday.com blog about Shawn Michaels not taking the World Hvt. Title home with him after he won it at the 2002 Survivor Series. "Michaels took a shower and then returned to Vince's office to change," writes Mates. "He was just about to leave when I pointed out to him that he'd left the World Title belt on a chair. He said he'd rather not carry the thing around and asked if I would bring it to TV for him the next day...
"Really having no other options, I, Seth Mates, went home from a Pay-Per-View at Madison Square Garden, in my hometown of New York City, with the World Heavyweight Championship. And I didn't have to take one bump... And yes, when I got home, I put it on my shoulder and did a lap around my apartment. Don't even pretend you wouldn't have done the same." Powell's POV: Fun story. I don't know if Michaels fits this description, but there have been several champions who considered it a chore to carry the title around as part of their luggage. By the way, the story also includes an interesting passage about Triple H suffering a throat injury and finishing the match in which HBK won the title. Mates notes that while Hunter's medical issue was a concern backstage, there was also major concern over making sure there were cameras in the room to document him getting treatment.
