ESPN’s “Around the Horn” panel commented on Floyd Mayweather appearing at WrestleMania.
Kevin Blackistone on Mayweather: “Horrible career move. Come on... When you’re a boxer and you wrestle, that conjures up images of Joe Louis at the end of his career when he couldn’t make any money.”
Jay Mariotti on Mayweather: “‘Dancing With the Stars’ is okay for him because it’s a cool show and he kept his dignity. He’s going to wrestle a 7-foot, 430-pound oaf. He doesn’t have to. He doesn’t need the money. How about Oscar De Lay Hota the rematch? Concentrate on that, not the silly, goofy circus that he’s going to participate in.”
Woody Paige on Mayweather: “Muhammad Ali’s legacy is not ruined by the fact that in ’76 he went against a wrestler in Tokyo. It was a farce. We don’t remember that about Ali. Why in the world can’t Floyd have some fun? This is just a made for TV, pay-per-view event involving wrestling. We know what wrestling is. He’s going to go out and have some fun and there will probably be another 10 million people who know who he is.
Powell’s POV: Woody Paige serving as the voice of reason on any subject might be the seventh sign of the apocalypse.
