Rey Mysterio and WWE are currently negotiating a new contract, according to a source close to the situation. Mysterio is said to be unhappy with his recent pay because he doesn't feel like he's making as much as other top wrestlers. Like most WWE wrestlers, he is under the impression that returning stars Chris Jericho and Big Show were rewarded with huge downside guarantees. Mysterio's contract expires late this year or early next year.

Powell's POV: No one begrudges Jericho and Big Show for getting as much money as they could out of the company, but there are some wrestlers who now feel like they should get similar downside guarantees when their current deals expire. In other words, WWE talent relations ace John Laurinaitis has his work cut out for him in future negotiations.

Mysterio's knee and biceps injuries could not have come at a worse time. In addition to missing out on a big WrestleMania 24 payoff which he would have received for being part of the Big Show and Floyd Mayweather match, he lost leverage in contract negotiations by missing so much time due to injury.
