Rey Mysterio continues to negotiate with WWE officials regarding a new contract. He was under the impression that his contract was going to expire soon, but WWE enacted a clause that allows the time he missed due to injury to be added to the contract. Multiple sources report that WWE added 10 months to the contract. WWE generally negotiates contracts roughly a year before they expire.

Powell's POV: WWE started adding injury time to the contracts when they perceived that WCW wrestlers were milking injuries and collecting guaranteed money to sit home. WWE wrestlers are paid their downside guarantees during the time they miss with injuries, and they simply have the right to extend the contract if a wrestler is out for a certain length of time.

In Rey's case, he missed approximately 10 months while recovering from knee surgery and his recent torn biceps. He is seeking a raise and feels that he's been underpaid compared to some of his peers, but WWE's obvious counter argument will be that he missed so much time due to injuries. Clearly, the next few months will be crucial for Mysterio, as he must prove that he can stay healthy.
