Dot Net Exclusive Notes: Life after The CW, Vickie and Edge reaction, Lagana
Feb 11, 2008 - 03:18 PM

-WWE was not blindsided by The CW negotiations falling apart. “They had to see this coming,” one source told Prowrestling.net. As previously noted, the network is targeting women and WWE programming certainly didn’t mesh with those goals. MyNetworks has been mentioned as a possible home, but there’s also a good chance that WWE will strike a deal with NBC/Universal, which owns the USA Network and Sci-Fi Channel. A move to NBC does not appear to be in the works, meaning WWE would have no presence on network television if they choose to strike a deal with their most prominent television partner.

-The recent firing of ECW writer Dave Lagana was actually in the works for a while. Although there is believed to be a specific incident that led to his termination (there are some wild rumors floating around, but none are confirmed), word is that he was slowly being phased out before all of this went down. He’s been with the company for a while now and should get a severance package so he would most likely have a non-compete period. I haven’t heard whether TNA has any interest in bringing him on board or if he has any interest in working for them, but it could be a while before he would be contractually able to do so.

-Vickie Guerrero is said to be doing well and enjoys being in the locker room every week. Although she has told anyone who has asked that she believes her late husband Eddie Guerrero would be comfortable with her on-air story line with Edge. “It’s hard for anyone to put her down because she’s Eddie’s widow and no one knows what he would want more than her,” one source told Prowrestling.net. However, the same source noted that most people in the Smackdown locker room are slightly uncomfortable with the angle.

Powell’s POV: The only thing that matters in my mind is how Vickie and her daughters feel about the angle. If they’re truly comfortable with it and consider it no different from playing a part in a play or a movie, then so be it. Of course, the problem that her friends have is that her co-star in this angle is one of her late husband’s co-workers and not just some random actor (that being said, there's no heat on Edge over his involvement). For that matter, they are concerned that she would reject a story line even if it made her uncomfortable for fear of rocking the boat. I think most people agree, though, if she and her kids are comfortable, then that’s all that really matters.
