Chris Jericho said he respects Floyd Mayweather during an interview with the UK Sun that was published on Tuesday. “The thing about Floyd is he knows how to sell himself and a pay-per-view,” Jericho told the Sun.
“This is showbusiness. The more he gets under people’s skin, the more they want to see him get beaten up. He does exactly the same thing I’d do in this situation and I respect that. I don’t know if I’d ever go to his house for Christmas dinner, but as far as being a character on a show he is doing a tremendous job.”
Jericho also heaped praise on Umaga while running through the WrestleMania 24 matchups. “Batista has really come into his own and Umaga is the most underrated guy on the roster,” he said. “I would work with him every night if I could.” To read the full story along with Jericho’s thoughts on the WrestleMania matches, visit the UK Sun website.
Powell’s POV: I think the wrestlers have been pleasantly surprised by how much Mayweather gets it in terms of his willingness to play a heel role to sell pay-per-views. I’m just not sure whether Vince McMahon understands that the fans want to boo Floyd. It’s not surprising to hear Jericho put over Umaga, who has become a very reliable performer for WWE.
