WWE Smackdown Taping
Omaha, Neb. at Qwest Center
Report by Dot Net reader Marq Manner
Dark Match
1. Kung Fu Naki defeated Ryan Braddock. The match went longer than it should have been and nothing special. Funaki won the match. The kids seem into him a bit.
The Qwest Center's entire top level was tarped off. The non-camera side was very empty as well. The most sparsely attended TV event in Omaha that I have been to in many years.
WWE Smackdown Taping
The first show opened with Vickie Guerrero in the ring. She stated that Triple H would go against The Big Show, and if Triple H didn't win the match he would not be in the Royal Rumble. Eventually this was changed backstage to MVP vs. The Big Show, and if MVP lost Triple H would lose his Royal Rumble spot. Triple H was barred from ringside.
1. Finlay and Matt Hardy defeated Jack Swagger and Mark Henry. We were all really confused when Jack Swagger came out with the ECW Title. They then showed highlights of him beating Matt Hardy for the title.
2. R-Truth beat The Brian Kendrick. The live crowd loved R-Truths entrance. Ezikiel put a beat down on R-Truth post match.
3. Michelle McCool pinned Victoria. Victoria lost the match and then announced that tonight was her last match. She gave props to the fans and said she had done it this long for us. The crowd reaction was very mixed, though many tried to give her a proper send off. I felt like she was expecting a bigger reaction, and she deserved a bigger reaction.
4. MVP defeated Big Show in a last man standing match. They eventually worked their way up the ring. MVP was being tossed around like a rag doll for most of the match. At the stage entrance, Big Show went for a finisher and had his back turned to the entrance. Triple H came out with the sledgehammer and put Show down. It became a matter of who would stand first. MVP ended up standing first. MVP made it to his feet. I don't think he had any idea that Triple H helped him, and may be delusional about his first win in awhile. Triple H told Vickie that it counted as he was not at "ringside."
The Cutting Edge segment was set up. Edge called out Jeff Hardy, who came out to full pyro, but something went wrong. He ended up being plastered with sparks (ala Goldberg) and then a big fire ball came up and burned Hardy. It was a cool looking spot when they replayed it on the big screen. I'm pretty sure the first show ended there.
