Dot Net reader Billdozer attended the WWE Smackdown taping in Topeka, Ks. on Tuesday and passed along the following report.

Some of this will be a bit fuzzy and probably out of order due to the utter dullness of the event. The crowd wasn't very lively for most of the show, but I don't blame this on the crowd. Nothing seemed to click, at least for me, tonight and it doesn't seem like WWE really gave them anything to get fired up about.

Smackdown started with the opening pyro. Teddy Long came out to introduce Smackdown's newest acquisition. Edge's music hit and he got a decent pop. Jack Swagger's music hit and he came out with his mascot. Edge and Swagger cut a promo in which Edge made the first of a couple references to "flipping the bird."

1. Edge defeated Jack Swagger. A decent match with Edge winning after a spear. The crowd popped hardest however when Edge went for a spear on Swager mid-match and hit the mascot instead. This match was, sadly, probably the highlight of the evening.

Big Show came out and informed everyone that he had been made captain of the Smackdown team for Bragging Rights. He said his first decision was to select a mascot and he introduced Hornswoggle, who had his face painted blue and was wearing a viking helmet with blond braids. He said he would take a look at the roster over the next week and decide who is best for the team. The Dudebusters interrupted and said they should be on the team. Show played like he didn't know who the hell they were, choke slammed them both and left the ring.

2. Layla (w/Michelle McCool) defeated Kelly Kelly (w/Natalya). LayCool came out (thankfully without mics). Short and painful. Layla won and tried to attack Natalya, but LayCool retreated.

3. Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre defeated Kaval and Kofi Kingston. Okay match with some nice spots from Kaval. Rhodes pinned Kaval after CrossRhodes.

Paul Bearer was in the ring and introduced Kane, who came out and cut his promo about being the one who brought Bearer back from the dark side. He cut a promo on the crowd. Quite intense in person, and Kane continues to be money on the mic. Ring pyro, music, exit Kane.

4. Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated MVP to retain the Intercontinental Title. Decently worked match, but the same old WWE TV style match. Vickie left Dolph behind, but he retained with a Zig Zag after interference from Kaitlyn. Is she face or heel? She's feuding with Vickie, but helps Ziggler.

5. Rey Mysterio defeated Alberto Del Rio. Decent match. Good spots from both Mysterio and Del Rio, although I'm not seeing the hype behind him just yet. Money on the mic, but sort of vanilla in the ring. Mysterio won after a 619 and a splash.

Dark Match

1. Kane defeated the Big Show in a street fight to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Show cut a funny promo afterwards where he said he didn't know he was supposed to compete and spent the whole night eating catering. He thanked the audience for coming.
