9/6 TNA in Manhattan, N.Y.: Team 3D chooses between WWE and TNA, Samoa Joe defends the TNA Title in a four-way against Kurt Angle, Christian, and Booker T, Abyss vs. Rhino
Sep 7, 2008 - 12:09 AM |
TNA house show in Manhattan, N.Y.
Report by Dot Net reader Agahzi Giorgis, Serius XM Radio, PressPassRadio.com.
First of all, they are in the smaller Grand Ballroom and there are a decent amount of seats left. In comparison, ROH does a big number in the bigger Hammerstein Balroom.
Jeremy Borash is the emcee and ring announcer.
1. Black Machismo defeated Sonjay Dutt in about 7 or 8 minutes. Good action as usual from these two. Machismo won with the top rope elbow. Sonjay is sporting some serious bacne.
2. Awesome Kong defeated Traci amd Roxy in about 6 minutes. Good action. Kong is hot! Not really. Maybe a little.
3. Eric Young defeated Johnny Devine after turning into Super Eric. This match was strictly for comedic purposes. At one point in the match, Devine walked out so Eric and Earl Hebner locked up. When Devine returned, Eric took Hebner's ref shirt while Hebner and Devine went at it. Eric and Earl double teamed Johnny for a minute before getting back to the actual match.
Borash then got in the ring with a Spike TV camera man who panned the crowd. Borash then announced that TNA would return to NYC for a PPV. He was interrupted by Team 3D. Huge chants of "Welcome Back" and "ECW." Brother Ray talked about how great it is to come back to NY. Crowd chanted "Please Don't Go." Brother Ray then acknowledged Simon Diamond who was in the ring.
Brother Ray announced that Team 3D were free agents. He claimed that Devon was holding to contracts in his hand. One for TNA, and one for "another company." He put TNA over as having the better tag team division, having Kurt Angle, Booker T, Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Mick Foley. Huge chants for Foley. Ray then said the fans of NYC should make the decision of where Team 3D should go. Some people cheered for WWE, but most cheered for TNA, so they signed the TNA contract. Wow, I always wondered how these deals get done. Devon then tore up the "other company's" contract.
The next match was Rhyno vs Abyss. Just a quick note, Abyss doesn't appear to be a monster when he walks to the ring tugging on his shirt and making sure it's not too tight on his gut. Anyway....
4. Abyss defeated Rhyno in a no rules match. Just basic hardcore brawling. Abyss won after hitting a second Black Hole Slam.
5. Pete Williams retained the X Division title by defeating Consequences Creed. Lots of chants for Petey which led Creed to react a little heelish. Midway through the match Petey locked in the sharpshooter. Hebner wanted to ring the bell so bad but Borash talked him out of it. Petey won with the Destroyer. After the match Petey started to lock Hebner in the sharpshooter but he let it go. The two then hugged.
6. Tag Team Champs Beer Money Inc. defeated Team 3D after Jacqueline hit Devon with a low blow. Afterward Team 3D put her through a table. Then they brought two little kids in the ring and gave them parts of the table. Good job by TNA management as they immediately took the table fragments from the kids and gave them to their parents. Bubba put over NY fans as the greatest.
Ring intros took place for the main event. Booker got a heel reception. Christian got a good pop, but the crowd really popped big for Angle. Joe got a mixed reaction with a few ROH chants. Booker T took the mic and asked that "all the independent marks sit down and shut up." Great line.
7. Samoa Joe defeated Kurt Angle and Christian and Booker T to retain the TNA Title in a four-way. After two minutes Joe pinned Booker, which surpised the hell out of everyone. In a great spot Angle locked Joe and Christian in a double ankle locked. They managed roll through it after a few seconds. Later, Angle shoved Christian off the top rop and Joe caught him with an RKO for the pin.
It was now down to Angle and Joe. After 10 more minutes, Joe hit the muscle buster for the win.
After the match, Kurt thanked all the fans for spending their hard earned money. Borash then took the mic and announced that the TNA wrestlers would come to the ring for an autograph party. For the super fan, they could come in the ring and take a photo with a sweaty Kurt Angle for $20. I'll be using the $20 to put 2 gallons of gas in my car.
Good wrestling show and TNA still manages to come off genuinely humbled and appreciative of their fan support.
