TNA house show in Laredo, Tex.
Report by Dot Net reader Joe Garza
Jeremy Borash came out and welcomed everyone to the show and announced that the loudest fans would be getting backstage passes through out the night.
1. Ray Bucanero and Ultimo Guerrero defeated Petey Williams & Sonjay Dutt, and Jay Lethal & Kaz in an elimination match. The crowd was behind Buccanero and Guerrero since Laredo is a border town. There was constant "Mexico" chants when Buccanero or Guerrero were in the ring. Lethal and Kaz were eliminated first after Petey hit the Canadian Destroyer on Kaz. Guerrero and Buccanero get the win after pinning Sonjay. Good opener that got the crowd in to the show.
2. James Storm beat Shark Boy. Storm came out and cut a promo on not liking Texans and Mexicans. Shark Boy came out and did his Stone Cold gimmick. This match was by far the shortest match of the night with Storm pinning Shark Boy after a super kick. Pretty much was a squash with Shark Boy getting in a couple of offensive moves. Storm grabbed the mic and put a Tennessee shirt on Shark Boy. Shark Boy came to life and hit Storm with the Stunner and walked out of the ring.
3. Taylor Wilde defeated Awesome Kong and Jacqueline in a three-way to retain the TNA Knockouts Title. Awesome Kong pretty much dominated the match with power moves. Taylor gets the win with a roll up while Kong was going for the Awesome Bomb on Jacqueline. Awesome Kong's size and power is really something to see and Taylor is gorgeous!
4. LAX (w/Hector Guerrero) defeated Team 3D to retain the TNA Tag Titles. 3D came out and cut a promo on Laredo. Bubba said that he had called imigration and that half the arena was going to be forced to leave. Bubba cut a similar promo the last time he and Devon were here a few years ago during a Smackdown house show. Hector cut a promo putting over Laredo and his hispanic roots. Crowd was way behind LAX. Hernandez hit the Border Toss on Devon for the win.
Borash comes out and tells the crowd to get crazy because they are taping for Global Impact.
5. Samoa Joe beat Abyss to retain the TNA Title. Samoa Joe cut a promo on how great it was to be in Laredo and put over TNA. Good match with Samoa Joe picking up the win after a T-bone suplex on Abyss. Samoa Joe was way over and seemed to be having a great time.
6. A.J. Styles pinned Kurt Angle. Great match with both men working very hard. Both guys were way over with the crowd. A.J. pick up the win after escaping the Angle Lock a few times and hitting the Styles Clash.
Notes: After the final match, Kurt stayed in the ring and thanked Laredo for having TNA and put over TNA as an up and coming company. Jeremy Borash came out and announced that Kurt would be taking pictures with people in the ring for $20. About half the crowd lined up for pictures with Kurt. He was very polite and smiling the whole time.
I asked Kurt if MMA was in his future and he responded by saying, "soon...soon." As I walked out of the ring Hernandez signed my ticket stub. Many of the performers came out after the show to sign autographs. All in all it was a good show with a much more fan friendly feel than WWE shows that have run here. Only half the arena was being used, with about 300-400 fans in attendance.
