11/12 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe, Abyss vs. Dr. Stevie; if Abyss wins, Dr. Stevie must leave TNA, go home show for Turning Point
Nov 12, 2009 - 10:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fl

[Q1] Footage was shown of the Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan press conference. Following that was Dixie's speech to the roster on last week's show. Dixie and the narrator promised change in the company. Tonight's show is entitled "Three's a Crowd." ...

Mick Foley and Super Dave Osborne promoted Dave's spectacular show on Spike TV. Dave said he was in charge of the show. Foley said Dave could book one match, it could not be a title match, and if it involved the Knockouts, they had to "dress appropriately." Dave sat down.

Black Machismo came in asking about the whereabouts of Hulk Hogan. Lethal recognized Dave from Curb Your Enthusiasm, but did not know who he was. He took off looking for Hogan. Dave had no idea who Lethal was. JB asked Dave if Dave followed him on Twitter. Dave said he preferred talking...

Twill's Two Cents: Was anything about that segment relevant? Super Dave and a Randy Savage character don't exactly scream "change" to me.

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Taz welcomed us to the show. Mick Foley came out to the announce table and said although he received an email, he wishes he would have been better informed about the Hulk Hogan and TNA partnership...

1. Dr. Stevie (with Daffney) defeated Abyss in 2:13. The stipulation was not mentioned in the introductions. Abyss hit the blackhole slam and when the referee counted to two, the lights went out. When they went back on, Abyss was down. Stevie pinned him for the mysterious win.

The announcers questioned Foley but he said he had nothing to do with it. Stevie went to attack Abyss with a chair, but Foley made the save. The lights went out again and we saw a fireball. Then Raven appeared and hit Foley with the even flow DDT. Raven, Stevie, and Daffney celebrated... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I've always been a huge Raven fan and thought he was very impressive in his last run around Slammiversary. I am glad to see him back and this has become a very entertaining upper mid card program.

[Q2] Backstage, Raven was actually smiling (weird) and had his arms around JB. Stevie said he brought the pain and the pain was here to stay. Raven talked about Foley, Terry Funk, and Tommy Dreamer (nice). Raven called himself a serial killer that has never been caught...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice job by TNA to follow up a big happening like Raven coming back with an immediate promo.

Sting was advertised for next week's show. He will be interviewed and the two main topics will be his wrestling future and Hulk Hogan in TNA. A video aired featuring Sting, Hogan, and Dixie Carter. It felt like a "Sting on his way out and Hogan on his way in" video package. The narrator said we'd find out if Sting will retire next week...

2. Alissa Flash defeated Traci Brooks in 1:42. As Alissa worked on the right arm of Traci, Tenay mentioned that Traci has been handicapped since birth in that arm. Alissa forced Traci to tap out with an armbar...

After the match, Traci attacked Alissa from behind and cussed at her a lot because she kept getting bleeped out. The announcers said Alissa went too far and Traci had every right to be pissed...

Twill's Two Cents: Seriously? So, because Traci is handicapped due to her right arm, her opponents shouldn't focus on that? That is BS. Opponents should always focus on and zero in on a weakness. Nice win for Alissa.

The boots of a legend were shown walking through the backstage area to answer Black Machismo's challenge... [C]

[Q3] 3. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart defeated Black Machismo in 1:30. This open challenge thing could be a lot of fun. Nice to see Anvil back. He overpowered Lethal early and was serenaded with "You still got it" chants. Lethal hit some Savage moves, but Neidhart scored the win with a powerslam...

Twill's Two Cents: Wow. I wasn't expecting that. I figured Lethal would get a nice push beating up on some older, big names.

Footage was shown of a Lashley interview with Lauren earlier in the day. Lashley said he did not bring Kristal to the Impact Zone because he was worried about her safety. He was interrupted and pulled into the production truck.

Scott Steiner sent over a video from the hotel and said he went to check in, but he forgot his wallet. He told the employee he knew Bobby Lashley and was headed up to Lashley's room, where Kristal was. Lashley hauled ass out of there with the camera crew in tow... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Great stuff from Steiner. He is single handedly making this an interesting feud and program.

During the break, The Beautiful People were shown walking through the backstage area...

Backstage, Super Dave and JB talked about tonight's show. They were concerned about Foley. JB said they were both in charge and Dave reminded him that only he was in charge. Then Dave asked JB to put together a top notch match. JB said the X Division was the way to go...

Twill's Two Cents: Dave has no knowledge of the product and they decide to make that even more obvious? What was that? Bad segment.

TBP made their way to the ring and their partner, Awesome Kong followed. The women's champions and Tara came out to face them...

4. Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, Lacey Von Erich, and Awesome Kong defeated ODB, Tara, Sarita, and Taylor Wilde in 7:23. Lacey tagged and and like a train wreck, I'm sure everyone was watching a little more closely. She looked better than normal (still in need of vast improvement) and scored a nearfall... [C]

[Q4] Back from commercial, my future wife was getting the best of Sarita until she took a low dropkick to her gorgeous face. ODB tagged in and beat up both Velvet and Madison. Lacey came in and closelined her. Kong finally tagged in and hit the Implant Buster on Taylor for the win...

After the match, Lacey tried to hug Kong, but her girls got her the hell out of there...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun match while it lasted and nice focus on the PPV matches in this division.

The X Division stars stood by and listened to a pep talk from Super Dave. Dave told Don West to stick around and they thought Homicide stole some things from his office...

Kurt Angle said Vince McMahon created a monster with WWE, but Hulk Hogan and Dixie Carter could create a monster themselves. He said it was a time for change in TNA and Hulk Hogan will be their change... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: This Super Dave stuff is tough to watch. The Angle comments were very interesting and it sounds odd, but Hogan could be positive change in TNA if he is used correctly.

Lashley ran through the hotel and entered his own room. Kristal was sitting there calmly and said she was doing just fine. Steiner then attacked Lashley from behind and Kristal starting screaming. I think Steiner said Lashley's baby had his eyes. Funny...

Twill's Two Cents: Steiner was in the room, but Kristal didn't know it? There is more to this story than meets the eye.

Kurt Angle made his way to the ring and footage was shown of Desmond Wolfe taking Angle out a few weeks back. Angle called this Sunday's match one of the biggest of his life. He put over A.J. Styles and Matt Morgan, but said he had no respect for Desmond Wolfe. Angle said he would terminate Wolfe's career at Turning Point.

Wolfe appeared on the big screen and said he was not at the Impact Zone tonight. He was at a bar with some random broad who couldn't take her eyes off of him. He said he did not want to beat Angle, he wanted to take him out. Angle tried to talk to the video, but it started to loop. Angle knew what was going on.

[Q5] Desmond entered the ring and tried to attack Angle from behind. Angle saw it coming and got the best of Wolfe. The video kept playing in the background. On the floor, Angle grabbed a chair and swung it at Wolfe, but he moved and hit a DDT. Desmond then hit Kurt in the head with the chair. He stood over him and said, "Third time's a charm, Sunshine." ... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Awesome segment. Kurt is working his ass off to get Desmond over and Desmond is really running with the opportunity. The sound of Wolfe's voice in the background was eerie and well done. Wolfe getting the best of Angle in these one on one encounters is really making him look like a star.

Super Dave joined the broadcast team for the X Division match. Dave plugged his special for the 100th time. It was announced as a six man tag team match...

5. Amazing Red (with Don West) and The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) defeated Homicide, Sheik Abdul Bashir, and Kiyoshi in 4:12. As the match began, instead of calling the action, the announcers talked about Dave's show.

Twill's Two Cents: Dave's lack of knowledge means he could be Art Donovan bad tonight. That would be worth listening to him.

Shelley took offensive moves from the entire heel team. Homicide went to the announce table and revealed that he took Foley's barb wire baseball bat. The security stopped Homicide and removed him from ringside. Red tagged in and hit a double missile dropkick on both Kiyoshi and Bashir.

Red took over the match and the crowd. He hit a series of kicks and other impressive moves. He finished off Kiyoshi on the floor with a corkscrew plancha. Shelley tagged in and hit the Sabin assisted high cross body for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Red is a lot of fun to watch and that trio was damn impressive.

Lauren interviewed Desmond Wolfe backstage. Wolfe said he would finish the job and would end Angle's career on Sunday. He said he was a younger and healthier version of Angle. He broke out his new catchphrase and said everyone would "bow to his howl." Then he asked, "Do you like that?" ... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Nice follow up promo from Desmond. He has impressed in his physicality and his promos and Angle is doing a great job helping him get over.

[Q6] Team 3D and Rhino came out to the ring. Brother Ray said they were on board with what Dixie Carter said last week, but they said the young guys would not push them out. They called out Matt Morgan and Hernandez. They went back and forth about their match at Turning Point.

Morgan said they did not need a partner. The Pope D'Angelo Dinero came out and walked a few steps past Hernandez and Morgan. He called both men the future individually. He said he was going to be their partner and The Pope has spoken. Morgan and Hernandez looked confused... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I know Jason thinks Pope should be a babyface and that was not exactly a babyface turn with the way he handled that interview, but maybe this is the first step in that process. Maybe he will screw over Morgan and Hernandez.

[Q7] A commercial aired for the Turning Point main event. I cannot believe it has been four years since their last epic encounter. By the way, they are not hyping this pay-per-view at all...

The British Invasion and Eric Young were interviewed by Lauren. She pointed out that TNA Management proclaimed if Beer Money defeats them tonight, they will be added to the tag team title match at Turning Point, which also includes The Motor City Machine Guns. Young took over the interview and said he did not have a problem with Hulk Hogan and that he was a fan of his back when he was three...

Tenay and West ran down the card for Turning Point. It is a damn good looking card, especially Angle vs. Wolfe and the main event... [C]

Footage was shown of TNA's top young stars with Hulk Hogan saying TNA was the place to be...

Don West ran down the immediate future of TNA Live Events...

JB interviewed A.J. Styles in his locker room. JB pointed out that Styles and Daniels were on different pages. Styles apologized to Daniels and said Joe got the best of them. Styles said he knew Daniels didn't jump him but he didn't forget about the attacks. Styles called himself the best...

6. Beer Money defeated The British Invasion in a non-title match in 5:11. Roode impressed early and they quickly cleared the ring of their opponents. Williams and Magnus considered taking a countout but decided against it. Big Rob came out and Magnus told him to leave because he didn't want his team to get disqualified.

[Q8] TBI took over for awhile but Roode was able to hit a move on both men and tag in Storm. Storm came in and cleaned house on both opponents. Beer Money then double teamed their opponents and nearly scored a pinfall. Roode rolled a chair into the ring and Magnus considered using it. Beer Money used the distraction to hit DWI for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: I love Beer Money, but I didn't like this so much because I wanted the Guns to get a one on one shot at the PPV for the belts. On top of that, Beer Money just beat the tag champs cleanly and relatively easily.

Backstage, Morgan and Hernandez were arguing over which one of them was close with Dinero. They both wondered if they could trust Dinero. Pope said his word was golden and that nobody was holding him back. He said all three of them would be pimpin' at Turning Point...

Twill's Two Cents: Again, nice followup from an earlier angle. I like how Morgan and Dinero were arguing over something an hour later that they should have solved in a few seconds.

Lauren interviewed Daniels backstage. Daniels said he was still friends with Styles, but if TNA would have been behind him the same way they were behind Styles, Daniels would have been a world champion. He questioned A.J. not wanting to face him one on one...

Twill's Two Cents: Solid promo from Daniels.

7. Samoa Joe defeated A.J. Styles in a non-title match in 4:32. Styles hit an impressive dropkick early but Joe gained the advantage. He hit a powerbomb and locked in a STF. He transitioned it into a crossface. Styles was able to get to the ropes. Joe hit a series of jabs. Styles fought back with punches and knife edge chops. Styles backflipped off of the ropes and landed on his feet, but Joe hit a huge closeline for a two count.

[Overrun] Styles tried to hit the Styles Clash, but Joe powered out. Daniels came out as Styles went to the top rope. They argued because Daniels said he was there to help Styles. Styles punched Daniels and regretted it. Joe used the distraction to lock in the rear naked choke for the win. Daniels looked on as Joe looked like he was going to attack Styles...

Twill's Two Cents: Good, short match between the two. The Daniels distraction was predictable and bad, to be honest. Why would Styles need someone to watch his back at the exact moment he was going for the win? I suppose they have to create tension between the three, and especially the two friends. I'm looking forward to the match on Sunday and think it will be very special.
