6/18 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: TNA Slammiversary go home show featuring Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles and Samoa Joe vs. Sting and Kurt Angle, Daniels vs. Amazing Red
Jun 18, 2009 - 10:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL

[Q1] Footage was shown of last week's show with Mick Foley suspending Jeff Jarrett without pay and Kurt Angle winning his way into the King of the Mountain match. Tonight's show is entitled "Welcome back Jeffrey!!!" The opening video aired, fireworks lit up the Impact Zone, and Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show...

Twill's Two Cents: The titling of the show thing was a cool idea, but they really should do away with the concept.

Mick Foley, Earl Hebner with a very swollen cheek, and a clown came down to the ring, which was filled with party favors. A "Welcome back Jeffrey" banner was in the ring. Foley introduced his guest list, which included AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Kurt Angle...

Twill's Two Cents: Clowns freak the shit out of me. Is Foley going for a "Rock, this is your life?" segment here? Call me crazy, but I don't see it that magic being recreated.

Foley called Jeff Jarrett down to the ring and released a bunch of confetti. Foley announced the main event triple threat tag team match and asked everyone to put their hands in. Jarrett left but Angle and Styles put their hands in. Joe acted like he was going to join in, but instead he attacked Angle...

Twill's Two Cents: That was hardly necessary, but I enjoyed the portion that included Joe going after Angle. It also set up tonight's main event and promoted the PPV. I just don't like when matches are announced ahead of time and then they are announced on the show "for the first time."

Backstage, JB interviewed Daffney about her match tonight. She said all women were going to hell tonight. Raven took over and said although he and Abyss were not much different, he and Daffney would defeated Abyss and Taylor at Slammiversary... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Very nice promo by Daffney and the usual solid mic work from Raven. I hope Raven is sticking around because I love the dynamic with this trio that also includes Richards. I would love to see more of them in a strong mid-card.

[Q2] Footage aired of the issue between Daniels and Shane Douglas. After the video, Amazing Red had already been announced and Daniels made his entrance...

1. Daniels defeated Amazing Red in 3:23. Tenay announced Daniels will face Douglas at the PPV with his roster spot up for grabs. Red gained the advantage early and hit a corkscrew plancha onto Daniels on the floor. Daniels came back and hit a huge closeline to take over the offensive advantage.

Red came back and hit five straight kicks but was unable to put Daniels down. He hit a top rope hurricarana and followed with a second rope modified DDT for a nearfall. Daniels hit a snap Death Valley Driver and followed up with the BME for a three count...

Immediately after the match, Douglas appeared on the big screen and accepted Daniels' challenge for Slammiversary. He said Daniels would get his ass franchised...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun match that saw Red score most of the offense. Daniels earned a nice victory leading into the PPV, but I wonder, what exactly does Daniels gain by putting his roster spot up against Douglas?

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Taylor Wilde, Raisha Saeed, and Awesome Kong. Taylor said she was not able to help Daffney when TBP attacked her because she wasn't in the building. She said she could be a much bigger bitch, Kong spoke and said "Monster kill princess first, then monster kill monster last." ... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Nice. Kong should do more (as long as it is just a few words) talking. Nice hype for the match tonight.

[Q3] The announcers ran down the rest of the card for tonight. They then plugged both King of the Mountain matches, which will take place this Sunday on pay-per-view...

Matt Morgan was in the ring and respectfully asked Sting to come to the ring. Sting came out as if he was right at the gorilla position. Morgan told Sting he was not going to disrespect him, but he could if he wanted. He said he was much stronger and smarter than Sting. He digressed and said he cannot join the Mafia because he has never been a World Champion.

Morgan continued and said he never had the opportunity to be a World Champion. He challenged Sting to a match at Slammiversary and told him to put his money where his mouth is. Sting accepted and said if Morgan could beat him, he would give him his spot in the Mafia. Sting turned his back and Morgan tried to attack him, but Sting sidestepped him and threw him from the ring... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I just asked this, but why would Sting just offer up his spot? What does he get? The Mafia is a joke right now and I am guessing they are on their deathbed. I hope that is not the case, but they look weak and unstable right now.

JB interviewed Jeff Jarrett backstage. JB "took some notes" and ran down the recent series of events involving Foley and Jarrett. JB wondered what was up with Foley suspending and welcoming back Foley. Jarrett is frustrated with Foley. He said he has not rid TNA of Foley because he has compassion for someone that crazy. He also said the TNA Title was coming home at Slammiversary...

Twill's Two Cents: So, Foley can suspend Jarrett, but Jarrett still has the power to "get rid" of Foley? Decent promo by Jarrett and they continue to hype the big matches well for the PPV.

[Q4] 2. Raven (with Dr. Stevie) defeated Jethro Holliday in a Clockwork Orange House of Fun match in 3:28. Basic hardcore match that saw both men on the offensive. Raven knocked Holliday through one of the two cage panels and pinned him on the floor. Daffney came down and Raven DDTed Holliday through a chair. Abyss came down and ran off the heels... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Daffney might not be traditional looking, but she is freaking hot and the trio of Raven, Richards, and Daffney has succeeded in making Abyss interesting again.

A Don West pre-taped interview with Samoa Joe aired. Joe said he would reveal who has been advising him in due time. Joe put over AJ Styles as his brother and said the Mafia is taking things away from the young talent of TNA. He said his target at Slammiversary was Kurt Angle...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice interview and nice that someone remembered the original reasoning behind the Main Event Mafia.

The Beautiful People walked backstage and Angelina said she could not trust "that beotch" as far as I can throw her. Velvet asked, "Kong or Taylor?" Angelina responded with, "My freaking partner." ... [C]

[Q5] Lauren interviewed Abyss backstage about the mixed Monster's Ball match at the PPV. Abyss cut a damn good promo and even took off Lauren's arm bandage, revealing a bruise. Lauren cried and ran off. Abyss said his mom would not let him hit girls, but Daffney was a "whacked out crazy bitch." He said he was going to get Dr. Stevie and he would need a mortician...

Twill's Two Cents: Very good promo by Abyss. Whether or not you like his character, that was a very good promo.

3. Awesome Kong (Raisha Saeed) and Taylor Wilde defeated Angelina Love (with Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne) and Daffney in 3:07. By the way, why is Daffney more upset with Taylor for not helping her, than she is with TBP, who kicked her ass? West made a nice point by asking how Kong felt about Tara receiving a title shot at the PPV and not her.

Taylor wanted Daffney and was able to get her hands on her. With Daffney in the ring, Kong made the hot tag and took out both women. TBP sprayed Saeed in the eyes with perfume. Kong hit the Implant Buster on Daffney for the win...

After the match, TBP put Kong through a chair and Tara hit the ring to run them off. Tara and Kong went face to face in the middle of the ring...

Twill's Two Cents: Great segment all around. Tara ran off Angelina and the girls and then they teased something between Tara and Kong without giving anything away. Very solid.

Backstage, JB interviewed Team 3D and asked them what they thought about Beer Money not coming to their aid against the British Invasion after Team 3D did come to Beer Money's aid in the same situation. Brother Ray wondered the same thing and Devon said they better get an answer before Slammiversary... [C]

[Q6] The latest Cody Deaner and ODB video aired. She said he might be ready and then said he was ready...

Twill's Two Cents: Does that mean we don't have to see any more of these videos?

SoCal Val interviewed Lethal Consequences and the Motor City Machine Guns. Lethal kept making comments about his history with Val and interrupting her as she tried to conduct the interview. Funny. Alex Shelley said one of Detroit's finest would win the X-Division Championship. Lethal took exception to this and they argued... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Glad to see they remembered the past!

Backstage, Val interviewed Beer Money, who said they just $100,000 so they were out drinking. Team 3D approached them and Beer Money joked them off. Then they suggested Team 3D should be their bitch, so they brawled. The honeymoon is over...

4. Team 3D and Beer Money Inc. defeated The Motor City Machine Guns and Lethal Consequences in :26. 3D and Beer Money fought on their way to the ring. Suicide came in and took out the Guns. Team 3D entered and hit the 3D on Shelley for the win...

[Q7] Backstage, AJ Styles said he loved the business because of the competition, but it was better when he had someone like Joe covering his back. Joe stopped AJ and said he knew he had a hairline fracture and since he owed him, he would take care of things tonight... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Intriguing promo with Joe and AJ. I'm curious to see what happens when Taz finally debuts.

Backstage, Mick Foley was welcoming the new head of security. JB said his Twitter page, along with Foley's, are the two hottest items on the internet. He broke out a cartoon drawing of the 'Tweet and Tweet' Connection. Foley called in "his guy" to hand the picture and Kip James came in to do the job...

The announcers ran down the entire card for Slammiversary...

JB interviewed Kurt Angle backstage. Angle said Sting taught him a lot of things, including being calm, cool, and collected. He said not being the Godfather has made his life a lot less stressful. However, he said the Mafia would be in Detroit, he would kick Joe's ass, and he would become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Hmmm, the Mafia screws Sting and Morgan wins. Then Morgan helps Angle win the title? Could that happen?

[Q8] 5. AJ Styles and Samoa Joe defeated Kurt Angle and Sting, and Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley in 9:49. Foley and Jarrett exchanged tags early and worked well as a team. Angle worked over Foley. Foley took a seat at the announce booth as Jarrett was having his ass handed to him in the ring... [C]

Angle locked Jarrett in the ankle lock as Foley was at the announce booth. They kept saying Jarrett could only tag Foley, but he can tag anyone he wants. Jarrett finally tagged Joe and Joe powerbombed Angle onto Sting. Jarrett attacked Foley at the announce booth and hit him in the head with a chair. He hit both security members too.

Back in the ring, Joe hit the Muscle Buster on Angle for the win. After the match, chaos ensued and the show went abruptly off the air, which is not the best thing to do before a pay-per-view...

Twill's Two Cents: Obviously, this was more of a storyline match to promote the Slammiversary main event and it did its job. TNA did a nice job promoting one of their best PPVs of the year and I'm intrigued to see whether or not they deliver on Sunday.
