6/4 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Nash in a cage match and King of the Mountain qualifier, Mike Tenay interviews Sting and the Main Event Mafia, Raven and Lisa Marie Varon appear
By Rich Twilling Jun 4, 2009 - 10:00 PM |
|
TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] Footage was shown of Mick Foley, Eric Young, and Shane Douglas. James Earl Jones hyped tonight's six sides of steel match between Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe. Tonight's show is entitled, "You Can Go Home Again." Backstage, Lauren caught up with Shane Douglas. Shane asked who Lauren was and said he was here to leave his mark on TNA for a long time to come...
Twill's Two Cents: Why can't they just call it a cage match? If the ring had 23 sides, it would still be a cage match, not a "23 sides of steel" match.
The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show and plugged tonight's main event of Kevin Nash vs. Samoa Joe in a cage...
Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir made their way to the ring. There is a "Six Hour Power" energy drink ad in the middle of the ring, so when Bashir bent down to kiss the canvas, he inadvertently was expressing his love for Stacker 2...
1. Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Christopher Daniels and Suicide in 5:18. Tenay stupidly asked West if he still thought Daniels was Suicide. West replied with, "Mike, you have to let this go; it is obvious they are two different people." Funny! Solid action early with Daniels scoring a nearfall at just past the four minute mark.
Daniels and Kiyoshi ended up in the ring. Lethal Consequences and the Motor City Machine Guns attacked and ran off Suicide. How is that not a disqualification? Anyway, with the referee distracted, Shane Douglas hit Daniels with a chain, allowing Kiyoshi to score the pinfall...
Twill's Two Cents: Fun, but forgettable action that was more about Douglas and Daniels. The referee looked bad tending to the non-legal man on the floor with two legal men in the ring, not to mention not disqualifying the heel team after Suicide was ran off.
The camera zoomed in on Douglas, so maybe he'll finally address this situation... [C]
[Q2] Shane took a seat in the middle of the ring as a replay aired from moments ago. Douglas called the fans "jabrones" and said unlike them, he was a huge fan of TNA. He told Daniels not to take it personally, but Jeff Jarrett gave Daniels a second chance, but did not give Douglas a second chance three years ago when he left TNA.
Douglas demanded his second chance from Jarrett or Mick Foley, or "whoever was in charge." West said the only people that get a chance are friends of Jeff Jarrett...
Backstage, Mick Foley explained his "one defense a year" by saying the TNA World Heavyweight Championship is not a "menstrual cycle," but he would be open to defending the belt on four big shows a year.
Kip James entered and humbly asked for a job. He said he needed a job for his family and that one of his kids was "fixin' to go to college." Foley said he would see what he could do but that times were financially tight...
Twill's Two Cents: I'm guessing he isn't "fixin'" to go to very good college.
Kevin Nash and Jenna Morasca entered. Nash asked Foley what he was smoking and asked why tonight's match was now a Lethal Lockdown match. He asked for more money. Foley agreed to pay Nash four times his normal rate for the night. JB thought times were tough and "what about Kip." Foley said, "Times are tough... for Kip." They both laughed like goons as the show went to commercial... [C]
Backstage, Lauren interviewed the Guns and Lethal Consequences. Sabin said they don't like each other, but he is willing to put differences aside to unmask Suicide. Creed said something about Suicide "taking what we created" in terms of the X Division...
Twill's Two Cents: What they created? How much bullshit is that? By the way, how does Creed teaming with Sabin against Beer Money help their cause to get rid of Suicide?
[Q3] 2. Beer Money defeated Chris Sabin (with Alex Shelley) and Consequences Creed (with Jay Lethal) in 5:10 Storm and Roode double teamed their way to a nearfall within the first ninety seconds. With Storm in the corner, Sabin and Shelley wanted Creed to use heel tactics, but he did not comply.
West said watching Sabin was like looking in a mirror twenty years ago. Nice! Sabin and Creed went for springboard moves at the same time, but they bumped into each other. Roode and Creed bumped heads in the ring. The British Invasion came out but Team 3D cut them off and attacked them. After Sabin accidentally hit Creed, Beer Money hit the DWI for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Entertaining, but non-sensical match. I do like that the Invasion and Team 3D appeared because until then, the match was not about Beer Money at all, and they deserve to be in the spotlight.
Backstage, Lauren walked with The Beautiful People. By the way, Velvet Sky does not have a Facebook page... [C]
Backstage, after being beat down for a moment, Tara (Lisa Marie Varon) beat up two of the Beautiful People, but just taunted Champion Angelina Love. West said they would face at Slammiversary...
The announcers put over the rest of the night's card. Footage aired of the Tenay interview with the Mafia. Kurt went nuts and Sting (the only one standing up) tried to calm him down... [C]
[Q4] Lauren interviewed Daffney backstage against her wishes. Daffney said crazy people did not have any logic. They do what they do. Daffney said Taylor was not there when she needed her. She said she would hurt Taylor tonight. Lauren said normal people talk things out and do not hurt each other...
Twill's Two Cents: Well, Daffney is facing Taylor tonight. People get hurt in matches. Could you imagine a bunch of "talking it out?"
The Mafia sat with Tenay in the ring in an empty arena. Nash and Booker said they were going to take care of Joe. Steiner was hilarious. "He's a fat son of a bitch.... HE'S FAT!!!" Angle started to lose it and Sting calmed everyone down. He said they would take care of Joe, but do it on their own terms...
Taylor Wilde and a weird look on her face were shown heading through the backstage area... [C]
Footage was shown of Daffney as "The Governor" and why she hates Taylor Wilde (because she was not there when The Beautiful People cut her hair)...
3. Daffney defeated Taylor Wilde in 2:06. Don West said, "The difference between Taylor Wilde and Daffney is that you take Taylor home to your mother, but then you leave her with your mother and sneak out to hook up with Daffney." Hilarious! Dr. Stevie and Raven came out to observe the match.
[Q5] Taylor slammed Daffney and went to the top, but Stevie distracted her, allowing Daffney to take the advantage. She hit her finisher for the win. They attacked her after the bell but "arm flailing, shrieking" Lauren came out for the save. Raven cut a promo saying Abyss violated Doctor's orders. He called his reunion with Richards "Every wrestling purists' wet dream." ...
Twill's Two Cents: Maybe this is accidentally what Abyss needs, because a dark, weird stable with Raven, Richards, Daffney, and Abyss could be fantastic. It is so good to see Raven back.
Footage was shown of the history between Jeff Jarrett and Eric Young. In case you forgot, Young attacked Jarrett last week and Jarrett was out to address it this week...
Jeff "I have five nicknames" Jarrett made his way to the ring. He still has kick ass theme music. I wish TNA would do a better job of playing their music louder. Jarrett introduced "my good friend," Eric Young. Jarrett wanted to let bygones be bygones. He said Young got his shot to main event a PPV last week, but Jarrett won the match.
Jarrett called himself the better man on that given night. He said Young jumped him from behind like a thug. Jarrett said they could end it now or take it as far as he wants to go. Young told a sob story about how he didn't have a father and how Jarrett was a father figure to him. Young said Jarrett took his own money and started TNA from the ground up. The crowd chanted, "TNA!"
Twill's Two Cents: Say what you want, but the TNA fans in attendance are freaking loyal.
Young talked about Jeff's home life and how Jerry Jarrett did not have time to raise and love Jeff. Eric said both men vowed to be better than their fathers. Young said Jarrett became just like his father. Young said TNA was all about Jeff and that he forced his daughters to stand for second place.
[Q6] Jarrett slapped Young in the face and they proceeded to partake in a pull away brawl. Referees and security tried to pull them apart, but Jarrett laid out Earl Hebner to get back at Young. They cut backstage and Foley said, due to Jarrett's behavior, that he needed security. He then brought in the Mafia's security... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Young's voice is something to get used to, but as long as he gets rid of that silly "half smile" look, he could be great. He had an opportunity tonight and gave a damn good promo. Very nice job and all of a sudden, Young has some upside as a heel. By the way, the kids are hitting baseballs up against my wall. I guess I have to take care of this personally.
Rhino's protege, Jesse Neal, was chronicled in a video package. HIs best friend and him decided in the Navy they wanted to become professional wrestlers, but his friend died. Rhino, with his obligatory Detroit Tigers gear, and Neal, with his horrible haircut, cut a promo backstage. Neal said his dream was to step in the ring and tonight, he would make that a reality...
Twill's Two Cents: Well yeah, he is signed to the bout, so he is going to step into the ring. He should dream a little higher than that.
4. Matt Morgan defeated "Petty Officer" Jesse Neal (with Rhino) in 2:45. Jesse looked like a kid at wrestling school with gym shorts and a grey long sleeved shirt. Morgan toyed with him. Neal's hair looked like that of a used car salesman. Morgan taunted Rhino. He covered him but pulled him up before three. Morgan hit the big boot for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Neal can take a bump, but he runs the ropes awfully slow. I'm glad they didn't have Morgan lose from something screwy. Neal's story could cause people to get behind him, down the road though, not now.
Mick Foley was shown walking with his new security... [C]
[Q7] ODB and Cody Deaner worked out at her cousin Leroy's house. Wow, she's too talented for this...
TNA World Heavyweight Champion made his way out to the ring with his new security. Foley said Booker T and Scott Steiner would face Samoa Joe next week. Also, a King of the Mountain qualifying match will pit Sting against Kurt Angle...
Twill's Two Cents: Can't they just leave the Mafia together for now and not tease tension all of the time?
Foley cut a promo on Jeff Jarrett and said his actions scared him. He was pissed at Jarrett for assaulting Earl Hebner. He said he would punish Jarrett next week...
Backstage, Sting was interviewed by JB. Sting said he and Angle would wrestle because they were professionals, but Foley would not come between the Mafia, because they were united. Matt Morgan entered and asked Sting where his contract was. He called Jesse Neal "Sailor Boy." Sting said "Sailor Boy" defended our country for four years. He said Morgan had no respect and to talk to him when he did... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: I love Sting like this and I really hope the Mafia stays together for the near future at least. I also hope they beat the crap out of Morgan because he just doesn't fit there.
[Q8] JB interviewed Scott Steiner and Booker T backstage. Next week, Samoa Joe would face them in a "Nation of Violence First Blood" match next week. The match will start with Steiner and Joe. If Joe bloodies Steiner, Booker is next. If either of them bloody Joe, the Mafia wins. Steiner said they would hurt Joe and stuff an apple in his mouth because he was a fat pig. Sharmell entered because she was pissed about Jenna hogging the makeup chair.
Twill's Two Cents: How funny is Scott Steiner? I would love him as a color analyst.
Nash made his entrance first and when Joe's music hit, he did not come out. He was shown "talking to his advisor" and then he finally made his entrance...
5. Samoa Joe defeated Kevin Nash in a Lethal Lockdown King of the Mountain qualifying match in 8:55. West made a great point about how dangerous Joe is, and how scary it is that someone is controlling Joe and his thoughts. Both men traded kendo stick shots before Nash took control of the bout early on... [C]
Back from commercial, Joe hit multiple right jabs followed by a right hook on Nash to knock him down. Nash hit a low blow, grabbed a trash can lid from the top of the cage, and nailed Joe for a nearfall. Joe then retook control of the bout. He grabbed a hockey stick. He broke it over Nash. "Holy crap," exclaimed West. He then pinned Nash...
Joe headed up the ramp and said, "It is done." ...
Twill's Two Cents: I was not expecting the pin right there. Decent weapons match that made Joe look pretty menacing and dominating. I'd rather not see Joe beat up everyone in the Mafia, but at the same time, it will make him look like a top star again.
