5/28 Talons TNA Impact Coverage: King of the Mountain Qualifying Matches; Suicide vs. Red for the X Championship; The returns/debuts of Raven, Shane Douglas and Victoria in TNA; Team 3D Trophy Presentation to Beer Money
May 28, 2009 - 08:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV Taped in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] A highlight video of the Sacrifice aired. This week’s title is “Shake-Up Within the Ranks.” The Impact Intro aired…

1. Suicide defeated Amazing Red in 5:15 Suicide appeared in the crowd during his entrance. The fans chanted “he’s amazing” early on. The match was very fast paced and even. Suicide kicked out the legs of Amazing Red while he was standing on the apron. The Main Event Mafia was shown entering the arena. Suicide connected with a nice Swinging Russian Leg Sweep. Red hit a modified Tornado DDT a few minutes later. A few kicks gained Red a 2-count. Suicide countered the Code Red into a reverse neck slam. Red got a few more near falls. Suicide hit the Suicide Solution for the win…

Talon’s Take: Very good for what we got. If TNA could deliver longer matches like that on a weekly basis I am sure more fans would be on their side.

The Main Event Mafia headed to the ring with Angle obviously upset at himself as we headed to break… [C]

[Q2] The Main Event Mafia with Sting as their leader made their way to the ring. Sting said there were changes that were going to be made since he is the new head of it. Sting spoke about the MEM’s original mission in putting respect back into TNA. Sting said things have strayed from that and they would get back into focus. Sting directed all of this towards Kurt Angle. Sting asked the other members if they lived up to the mission statement. Sting announced that Sharmell and Jenna Morasca are a distraction and therefore are gone from the Mafia. This upset the girls, Kevin Nash and Booker T who were throwing a fit. Sting addressed Kurt Angle and his security team. He then fired Sal E. Boy and Big Rocco. To this Kurt Angle threw a fit. The fans chanted “You got fired” at the two security guards. Sting said if anyone had a problem with what was said then speak now.

Samoa Joe then came out. Joe said that one man can’t tame four. Joe put the MEM on notice. Joe said he has been ordered to take out the MEM one-by-one until only Angle was left. Joe said he was ordered to kill Angle…

Talon’s Take: It’s interesting to see Sting take the lead and cause a little dissension within the group. Kurt Angle was visibly upset by the changes so I am interested to see how that plays. So Samoa Joe is supposed to kill Angle, but why? And who gave him that order?

Jeremy Borash was with Mick Foley for the King of the Mountain announcement. Foley told JB to put a “Jeff Jarrett Founder sign” on sale at Twitter. Foley announced that Eric Young would face Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles would face Daniels in KOTM Qualifiers… [C]

Talon’s Take: JB mentioned something happened at TNA Headquarters that I missed. AJ Styles vs. Daniels should be a very good match.

JB was with the British Invasion for an interview. Magnus took offense that JB said they stole LAX’s briefcase. Doug Williams said he would give everyone a shot to get the briefcases back. Tonight it would be a Ladder Match. When asked about Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi Magnus acted like he didn’t know what JB was talking about…

Lauren spoke with Jenna. Jenna asked why Sharmell would be mad at her. Jenna said Booker was going to get his arm broken at Sacrifice if she hadn’t done anything. Sharmell came in and began choking Jenna until Booker pulled his wife off… [C]

[Q3] Lauren was going to interview Sojo Bolt but Dr. Stevie interrupted. Stevie bullied Lauren. Lauren called Stevie a joke but Stevie called Lauren a joke. Dr. Stevie said he had mind control over Abyss. Stevie told Lauren to make an appointment with his receptionist.

2. Doug Williams defeated Cody Rhodes in a Ladder Match in 5:15 Don West said Cody Deaner was an example of why you don’t do crystal meth. Deaner threw his vest at Williams then attempted to climb the ladder but was cut off. Because of a death in Homicide’s family he couldn’t be there. Williams slammed Deaner on the ladder but missed a knee drop. Williams crossbodied Deaner with a ladder in between them. Deaner gained control but Rob Terry and Brutus Magnus pulled the ladder outside the ring. Deaner backdropped Williams into the ladder on the outside and nearly grabbed the briefcase. Williams sent the ladder over and Deaner had a scary landing. Williams then grabbed the briefcase for the win. After the match Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir congratulated the British Invasion…

Talon’s Take: They could have gotten more from this match if they gave it a week of hype. So Feast or Fired doesn’t mean anything if you beat up the guy holding the briefcase? I’m just saying!

JB interviewed Jeff Jarrett who was very upset. JB said maybe Eric Young is onto something with this whole complaining. Jarrett said he would pay attention to Young tonight in the ring. JB asked about what happened earlier at TNA HQ but Jarrett said he wouldn’t dignify it with an answer… [C]

[Q4] In the ring Dr. Stevie called out Abyss. Dr. Stevie said everyone has an addiction, they having an addiction to violence. Stevie said the difference between he and Abyss is that he is a civilized human being while Abyss is unfit for society. Stevie said they had to start the whole therapy process over again. Stevie told Abyss to put on a straight jacket he handed to him. Abyss resisted and Stevie yelled at him. Stevie said what he was going to do was going to hurt him more than Abyss. Stevie grabbed a kendo stick and told Abyss to come over to him.

Lauren ran in to protect Abyss but Stevie threatened her. All of a sudden Raven came out of nowhere and confronted Stevie. Raven grabbed the kendo stick and whacked Abyss with the kendo stick multiple times. Stevie told Abyss he was sorry, that was all the time they had for this week. Raven and Dr. Stevie then hugged as Lauren yelled that she hated Stevie…

Talon’s Take: Interesting segment! My only gripe is that instead of making history, TNA constantly revisits history. Good to see Raven back in TNA though.

Backstage the Beautiful People headed to the ring… [C]

[Q5] 3. Angelina Love defeated Sojourner Bolt in 2:30 Love was accompanied by the returning Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne and Cute Kip. Sojo hit a flurry of moves early on but Love pretty much dominated the match. Angelina got the win after spraying hairspray in the eyes of Sojo followed by the Lights Out for the victory.

After the match, Love asked Kip why he was still there. Love said he was supposed to take care of Kong but he failed. Kip thought she was joking but Love ended up firing him again. Angelina Love had security escort Kip from the ring. After Kip left Love kept bragging about the Beautiful People dominating TNA. She then laid out an open challenge to anyone to take the title off of her. Some unfamiliar music then hit and Lisa Marie Varon (formerly Victoria) came to the ring and took out the Beautiful People including hitting the Widow’s Peak on Love. Varon said that Love’s challenge was accepted…

Talon’s Take: It is great to see Victoria in TNA. It could be a nice program but I hope they are rushing past this thing with Awesome Kong. I don’t know why TNA would announce all these surprises beforehand on TNA Mobile. It just ruins the moment.

Borash was with Eric Young, asking him about his lack of opportunity in TNA. He asked if Young was hard on Jarrett. Young asked what about him. He said when TNA needs something they come to him but when he needs something, there nowhere around. He told Jarrett tonight would be a night he wouldn’t forget…

Backstage Mick Foley headed to the ring… [C]

[Q6] JB was with the Motor City Machine Guns and Lethal Consequences. Lethal said they all joined together to find out who Suicide was. Lethal kept making references of the past…

Mick Foley came to the ring with the World Title. Mick Foley said it has been a tough week for him. Foley announced that next week Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Nash inside a Lethal Lockdown Match. Foley said he overcame overwhelming odds to hold onto the World Title. Foley chatted about King of the Mountain Match. Foley complained that for him to overcome the odds again is impossible to ask any man. Foley said he needed to be World Champion for years. Foley said for that to happen he wouldn’t defend it often. Foley said after Slammiversary he would defend the World Title once a year…

Talon’s Take: Two things about this promo stood out: defending the World Title once a year and the announcement of next week’s match. Lethal Lockdown is a multi-man weapons cage match and TNA is tarnishing it’s legacy but making it a TV Match. Maybe Foley messed up and announced the match wrong but it might not be the case. Secondly they are making the fans root against Foley so he loses the World Title and we get a fighting champion. What was discussed earlier in the day wasn’t even mentioned in the promo.

JB interviewed AJ Styles and Daniels. AJ said they came to TNA to fight the best and the best was in TNA. Samoa Joe interrupted them. Joe apologized to AJ. Joe said he wanted them to get back to the way they were. AJ told him after the match… [C]

[Q7]4. Jeff Jarrett defeated Eric Young in a King of the Mountain Qualifier in 3:30 Eric Young refused a handshake from Jarrett. Young hit a big spinning clothesline for a 2-count. Jarrett countered a sunset flip into a 2-count of his own. Young countered the Figure Four into a rollup for two. Young missed a Moonsault. Jarrett hit the Stroke but Young kicked out. Young went for the Wheelbarrow Neckbreaker but Jarrett rolled through the pick up the win.

After the match Eric Young extended the hand to Jarrett who hesitated. Eventually he shook hands with Young. As Jarrett celebrated, Eric attacked him from behind going after his hamstring. Young hit an top rope elbow on Jarrett… [C]

Talon’s Take: Wow, what a good heel turn. Young snaps after not being given the opportunity and he takes it out on Jarrett. I enjoyed this segment very much.

Jeremy Borash interviewed Eric Young. Young told Borash to ask Jarrett what’s up. He said Jarrett wouldn’t forget about him again…

In the ring Brother Ray (with Devon) called out Beer Money who came to the ring. There were two podiums with trophies sitting atop them. Also Devon held a giant check. Ray put over Beer Money saying every TNA fan around the world is proud of them. Ray said they were proud that they worked in a company which has the best Tag Team Division in wrestling today. They presented Beer Money with the trophies and the check. The fans chanted “that’s a lot of beer.” Robert Roode thanked Team 3D for allowing them to prove that Beer Money was the greatest tag team in the world today. He said if you didn’t believe it, after Slammiversary they would. Ray grabbed some beer and they poured it in the trophy…

Talon’s Take: Nice little segment. I have enjoyed the program between Beer Money and Team 3D and I look forward to the next chapter at Slammiversary.

[Q8]Two guys then sang AJ Style’s entrance music as he came to the ring. He had some new pyro as well… [C]

Talon’s Take: This felt pretty big league to have the band in the ring singing to AJ’s entrance. I have a feeling he makes it into the match at Slammiversary and that he wins at Slammiversary.

5. AJ Styles defeated Daniels in a King of the Mountain Qualifier in 8:45 Daniels one upped AJ early in the match. AJ fired back with a huge dropkick. Both men fought for a Suplex with AJ gaining the upper hand by slingshotting Daniels to the outside as we went to break… [C]

AJ Styles connected with a Hangman’s Neckbreaker Suplex returning from the break. Daniels hit a swinging Neckbreaker while AJ was in the ropes. Daniels missed a Crossbody which allowed AJ to hit a flying forearm. Daniels got a two following the blue thunder bomb. Daniels missed the BME and AJ hit the Pele. Daniels reversed the Styles Clash into the Angel’s Wings which AJ countered with a rollup for the win. AJ is in King of the Mountain.

After the match “The Franchise” Shane Douglas came through the crowd and hit Daniels with a chain. Douglas then quickly escaped through the crowd while AJ Styles checked on his friend as the show came to a close…

Talon’s Take: Very solid main event which like every other TV Match could have used more time. I liked the story being told that the winner had to vary up his offense. The Shane Douglas interaction was expected but interesting. Why did he attack Daniels?

Overall this was a very solid show boosting the fans toward Slammiversary. There were a few good matches that could have been better. I also think this show had some good fallout from Sacrifice. My biggest gripe is that we never learned what happened at TNA HQ.
