5/21 Talons TNA Impact Coverage: Four Main Events involving Sacrifice World Title Participants; Knockout Title Contract Signing; Jeff Jarrett addresses the Nashville DVD; Go-Home Show for Sacrifice
By Talon Robinson May 21, 2009 - 08:00 PM |
|
TNA Impact on Spike TV Taped in Orlando, Fla.
[Q1] A highlight video of the Foley/Jarrett feud aired. This week’s title is “Double J in Jeopardy.” The Impact Intro aired…
Jeff Jarrett came to the ring with a slight limp to open the show. The Founder of TNA said when a reaction takes place a reaction needs to happen and tonight he is reacting. Jarrett said there was one more spot open at Sacrifice’s main event but now it has been filled because he is the final man. Jarrett said Foley has caused more chaos than the Main Event Mafia. Jarrett told Foley he wasn’t fit to be World Champion. He told Mick to have a nice day.
Mick Foley came out and made fun of Jarrett telling him he screamed like a woman. Foley said the voice in his head told him how much he hated Jarrett and his old man. Foley asked what Jarrett was willing to sacrifice to be in the main event at Sacrifice. He suggested putting his “management rights” on the line. Foley egged on Jarrett to put up his shares in TNA. Jarrett said Sunday he was all in! As Jarrett headed to the back, Mick Foley said he wanted everyone in shape for Sacrifice so he was setting a few matches up for tonight. Sting would take on Eric Young, Kurt Angle will battle Matt Morgan and Jeff Jarrett would face Samoa Joe. Foley said he would go toe to toe with a “former World Heavyweight Champion” who was talking trash about him tonight…
Talons Take: The perfect way for the main event at Sacrifice to end is having Mick Foley pin Jeff Jarrett to gain full control of TNA. There would be nothing more hurtful for someone than to lose control of their pride and joy after putting so much work into building it up. Strong opening segment tonight.
In the Main Event Mafia, Kurt Angle was looking for Sting but Scott Steiner tried to calm him down. Angle was saying Sting needs to know his role at Sacrifice… [C]
[Q2] Lauren was in the back with Daniels and Suicide and asked them if they could co-exist tonight being opponents at Sacrifice. Daniels said this time it would be different and on Sunday he would defeat Suicide for the X Title. Lauren asked Suicide “Who is Suicide”. Suicide responded in a low voice “I am Suicide…”
Talons Take: They could have built Suicide vs Daniels at Slammiversary but instead rush into a match this Sunday, not good booking. Interesting to see Suicide camouflage his voice from his real identity.
1. Daniels and Suicide defeated Lethal Consequences and The Motor City Machine Guns in 6:15 Lethal Consequences and the Machine Guns wore down Daniels early on. Daniels hit a Blue Thunder Driver for a 2-Count on Shelley. The Machine Guns hit a few nice double team moves. Don West announced that at the Sacrifice Countdown Show, Amazing Red would be in action. Suicide got the hot tag and took out the four opponents. Things broke down when Sabin attacked Jay Lethal breaking their alliance. Following a series of moves Daniels hit the Split Legged Moonsault to the outside on Jay Lethal. Suicide pinned Alex Shelley with the Chest Compactor move to the corner…[C]
Talons Take: Good little match! I would have preferred Suicide and Daniels go through Lethal Consequences tonight, take on the Machine Guns on Sunday then face off at Slammiversary to give time to build their feud.
[Q3] Backstage Kurt Angle was looking for Sting in the rafters…
A Sting Cross the Line Video aired…
Earlier today Kevin Nash and Booker T were training. Booker said to AJ Styles he wouldn’t quit. Nash said when he was born he poked his doctor in the eye… [C]
Talons Take: This segment made wrestling look really fake.
Team 3D headed to the ring. Brother Ray said they think the Tag Team Tournament is doing very well. Ray said one day Team 3D will retire but they want to leave behind a great legacy to tag team wrestling. Ray said The British Invasion has crapped on the hand that’s trying to feed them. Ray said even Beer Money has class these days. Ray said the British Invasion won’t show them up again.
Brutus Magnus, Doug Williams and Rob Terry made their way to the ring. Magnus said they were coming to the ring whether Team 3D called them out or not. The British Invasion said the only royalty around TNA was the British Invasion. Unfortunately Team 3D attacked but moments later The British Invasion got the upperhand. Rob Terry hit a running Powerslam on Brother Devon. They were going to put 3D through a table but Beer Money came out for the save. Robert Roode said if you want a fight have the balls to fight fair. As the British Invasion headed backstage they were met by Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir…
Talons Take: Good segment that builds to Sunday and builds to a potential matchup between Team 3D and either Beer Money or British Invasion.
[Q4] Backstage Jeff Jarrett was yelling at Eric Young. He told Young to be a man and prove himself. Eric told Jarrett that as a friend he was going to regret saying that… [C]
Talons Take: Jarrett said exactly what I was thinking. What happened last week in Samoa Joe’s trunk? I thought they were gonna do something different with Eric.
JB was in the back with Kurt Angle and Sting. Kurt asked Sting what was going on. Sting asked Kurt if he watched the show or was he just in them. Kurt said he watches it many times. Kurt said he got screwed at Lockdown but Sting screamed that he got screwed too. Sting said he would bring respect back to the TNA title. Kurt said he got it and suggested they team up at Sacrifice. They pounded fists…
Talons Take: Let’s pile on another storyline to the main event at Sacrifice okay? The stipulations aren’t enough. TNA should simplify a little bit.
2. Sting defeated Eric Young in 3:15 Both guys were respectful to each other. Young took a cheapshot at Sting in the corner. Sting caught Young in the corner and slammed him down. Young fired back with a Missile Dropkick which Sting blocked into the Scorpion Death Lock. Young tapped out moments later…
Angelina Love was shown walking backstage. The Knockouts Title contract signing is next… [C]
[Q5] Jeremy Borash was with Mick Foley. JB asked if Foley’s opponent was who he was thinking. Foley told JB to get out of there…
In the ring Jim Cornette hosted the TNA Knockouts Championship Contract Signing. Angelina Love was introduced and came to the ring with security. Cornette excused the security because there were referees in the ring. Cornette then introduced Awesome Kong who came to the ring with Raisha Saeed. Kong was going to strike but was separated. Angelina Love followed by Saeed (representing Kong) signed the contract. Cornette asked for final words. Angelina asked Kong to put their history behind them and she apologized to Kong. Love said after the match she would give Kong a makeover. Love continued to insult Kong saying she would send her to the best fat farm. Kong and Love shook hand but Kong didn’t let go. She was going to slam Love through a table but it got broken up. Seconds later Awesome Kong sent Referee Rudy Charles through the table… [C]
Talons Take: Love was very good in this segment. I am looking forward to their match this Sunday. Good contract signing.
[Q6] Backstage Lauren and Abyss were looking for Dr. Stevie. Lauren said her and Taylor Wilde were best friends and sorority sisters. She asked the receptionist where Dr. Stevie was but she said he was out until Monday…
Lauren was with AJ Styles. AJ said everything was on the line this Sunday. He said it was all about pride. AJ has never quit despite a harsh life. AJ said since Booker was in the same match he hasn’t quit either. When asked about Samoa Joe, AJ said there was nothing between him and Joe… [C]
Talons Take: Comparing when AJ was a heel to now I would say back then AJ was better on the mic. Of course Booker hasn’t quit yet since the match hadn’t even started. Also AJ needs a fashion guru because that shirt screamed “south.”
Lauren interviewed Matt Morgan. Morgan said there are times when you make business decisions. Morgan said he wanted to play for a winner and why wouldn’t the Mafia want him. He said Kurt is going to find that out tonight…
3. Kurt Angle defeated Matt Morgan in 8:00 Angle came to the ring with a rose in hand. Morgan had Angle’s number early on. Morgan slammed Angle into the guardrail as we headed to commercials. [C]
[Q7] Back from the break and Morgan hit a backbreaker on Angle in the ring. Angle fired back with a series of German Suplexes. Morgan countered the Angle Slam and connected with a Carbon footprint which got him a 2-Count. Angle reversed a slam into the Ankle Lock but Morgan powered out. Morgan went for the Hellevator but Angle countered into the inside cradle for the win. After the match Angle shook the hand of Morgan…
Talons Take: Solid match that displayed the talent of Matt Morgan. They are giving some of these guys some nice rub including Matt Morgan.
Lauren interviewed Jeff Jarrett and asked him about his hamstring. Jarrett said it was a battle of wills between him and Mick and he wasn’t losing. Jarrett said when someone pins Foley at Sacrifice; business is back to normal… [C]
Talons Take: Lauren did a good job of playing up how dangerous Samoa Joe is. She is so good in her role.
Lauren spoke with Jenna Morasca asking her what her role was with the Main Event Mafia. Jenna said Sharmell has until Sunday to apologize or else…
A Mick Foley Cross the Line Video aired…
Talons Take: I hate them airing the Cross the Line videos during Impact. They should air when Impact isn’t on and on other channels.
4. Jeff Jarrett vs. Samoa Joe ended in a No Contest in 2:45 Joe attacked Jarrett while he was making his entrance. Joe took Jarrett into the crowd and beat him down in the bleachers. Joe missed a big punch and hit the wall. Joe regained control ringside and kept attacking the leg of Jarrett (who had it wrapped). When Mark Johnson tried to stop it, Samoa Joe sent him into the guardrail. Another referee called for the bell. Samoa Joe then attacked Jarrett’s leg with a chair. AJ came out and stopped him. Samoa Joe and AJ then got into a huge brawl that was separated by Security… [C]
Talons Take: I am expecting Jarrett to lose more and more this Sunday especially after the damage Joe did. While Joe’s new character isn’t popular, TNA is building him to be a real badass. I wish TNA would save AJ vs Joe for a PPV like Bound For Glory rather than rushing it. By the way, notice the absence of Samoa Joe’s “Giant F’n Rambo Knife.”
[Q8] Mick Foley came to the ring for his match. He had a mic and announced he would do battle tonight with a “household name” from Philadelphia, Rocky Balboa
5. Mick Foley defeated “Rocky Balboa” in 1:30 Rocky was a cardboard cutout and was joined by “Mickie” and his entourage. Don West played up Rocky until Mike Tenay told him to shut up. Foley had a staredown with Rocky until the guy who controlled Rocky had him attack Foley. Foley “fought back” with a suplex and a Piledriver. Foley finished off Rocky with an Elbow Drop…
After the match Foley grabbed a mic and thanked Rocky, the fans and TNA. Foley said this was the greatest night of his life. Jeff Jarrett came to the ring battered and bruised. Jarrett said Foley made a mockery of TNA. Jarrett then attacked Foley. Kurt Angle came in and hit the Angle Drop on Jarrett followed by the Ankle Lock. Sting came in and split them up. Foley laid out Sting, Jarrett laid out Angle and Foley laid out Jarrett. Foley stood tall to end the show…
Talons Take: You had to expect something like that from Mick Foley. It played up to his character well even though it was stupid. I thought the final few moments built to Sacrifice’s main event well.
Overall this show was much better than last week. I really enjoyed the Knockout Contract signing. I also thought TNA made Matt Morgan and Samoa Joe look pretty good. Despite it being Memorial Day weekend, I look forward to Sacrifice this Sunday.
