5/21 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Quadruple main event featuring Mick Foley, Jeff Jarrett, Sting, and Kurt Angle in individual singles matches, go home show for the Sacrifice pay-per-view
By Rich Twilling May 21, 2009 - 10:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL

[Q1] Footage aired showcasing the relationship of Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett, through good and bad, over the months. Jarrett made it clear things are personal between him and Foley. Tonight's show is entitled "Double J in Jeopardy." ...

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Don West introduced the show and wondered out loud who the fourth man in the main event at Sacrifice would be. Jeff Jarrett, the King of the Mountain and TNA Founder, came out to the ring...

Twill's Two Cents: Jarrett is like Apollo Creed in having too many nicknames. Creed was the Master of Disaster, the King of Sting, and the Count of Monte Fisto, and Jarrett's on screen name graphic is pretty full too.

Jarrett said Foley's actions warranted a reaction and he was ready to react. He said Foley, Sting, and Angle were in and a fourth man was needed for the main event at Sacrifice, until now. Jarrett announced himself as the fourth man...

Twill's Two Cents: Jarrett said Foley "wasn't fit" to be the TNA Champion. That is an understatement if I have ever heard one. Wait a minute, what does Jarrett have to sacrifice to get into the match? By the way, Jarrett said "Mick" about 40 times and apparently, that was the cameraman's name because Jarrett was looking right into the camera the whole time.

Mick Foley came out and cut a promo on Jarrett. He said he snapped at the Asylum and not only hated Jeff, but his dad as well. He then asked what Jarrett was going to sacrifice and suggested his voting shares in TNA. Foley gave a lame "deal or no deal" line and the fans were telling Jarrett not to do it. Jarrett walked up to Foley and said he was all in. "You've got a deal."

Foley continued to the ring and congratulated Jarrett for growing a set. Since Jarrett booked himself in the main event at Sacrifice, Foley decided to book singles matches for the four participants. Foley booked Sting vs. Eric Young, Kurt Angle vs. Matt Morgan, Jeff Jarrett vs. Samoa Joe, and "a former world champion walking around" was welcome to face Foley tonight...

Twill's Two Cents: Again, why does Jarrett have to sacrifice anything? He can just book himself, period. Oh well.

Backstage, Kurt Angle was pissed because he has not talked to Sting. Scott "My promos are hilarious" Steiner tried to calm him down as Angle walked around looking for Sting... [C]

[Q2] Footage was shown of Lethal Consequences and the Motor City Machine Guns trying to unmask Suicide and Daniels making the save. Backstage, Lauren interviewed Daniels and Suicide. Daniels said he would become an elite member in this business. Suicide answered the question of "Who is Suicide" with "I am... Suicide." Cute...

1. Daniels and Suicide defeated The Motor City Machine Guns and Lethal Consequences in 6:03 West said the old Suicide flew to the ring, but the current Suicide is not able to do that. He called Daniels a genius for winning the X Division Title as Suicide and then challenging for the title as himself. Then the world exploded.

Daniels and Shelley exchanged some very fun and fast paced offense early on. Sabin tagged in and the Guns hit a series of double team moves on Daniels. Sabin went for a cover but Lethal broke it up. Shelley and Suicide tagged in and Suicide got the best of him. Creed and Lethal hit corner moves on Suicide.

The Guns hit top rope moves on Lethal and Creed. Daniels hit a split legged moonsault onto Creed on the floor. Suicide blocked Shelley's sliced bread attempt. Suicide pinned Shelley after a double knee to the sternum, similar to a Codebreaker. After the match, the lights went off and Daniels was alone in the ring... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: A very entertaining spotfest. It was too fast to take in any of the impressive moves because no one sold them for more than a few seconds. That was like watching Wrestling Society X. Kudos to the workers, but it's a shame their spots go unnoticed.

[Q3] Angle and Steiner went up to the rafters to look for Sting. Ugh. Tenay and West ran down the Sacrifice card. A video aired about Sting with him narrating it himself. He said he ruled the ring, left, and came back because his soul told him to...

Earlier today, Kevin Nash and Booker T worked out in the ring and dropped funny catchphrases into the camera... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I'll let the obvious "that is the hardest Nash has worked in years" joke go. How does a taped show have a two minute long segment? What was that?

Team 3D came out to the ring and footage was shown of the British Invasion attacking Team 3D. Brother Ray took the mic and said they wanted to give back, thus starting this tournament. They called the TNA Tag Titles the most prestigious in the history of the business. He called out the Invasion and said teams in TNA carry themselves with class and dignity. Even Beer Money has class and dignity.

The British Invasion came out to the ring. Brutus Magnus talked trash to 3D and they were promptly attacked. The Invasion had a three on two advantage and laid out Team 3D. They brought a table into the ring. Beer Money came out to the ring and ran off the Invasion. They then helped up Team 3D. Robert Roode told the Invasion to have the balls to fight fair. He then turned around and told Team 3D they were coming for their titles. They shook hands...

Twill's Two Cents: TNA does tag team wrestling correctly. WWE should look at this and know tag team wrestling could flourish in 2009 and beyond. Great segment.

[Q4] Jeff Jarrett was pissed at Eric Young, who was apparently upset he had to face Sting. He called Young an indy wrestler going nowhere when Jarrett found him. He said to go make a name for himself. Young said Jarrett would regret saying that to him... [C]

Angle found Sting. They joked about watching the show and Tivo. Angle said he was screwed. Sting said he was screwed too. Sting said he wanted to bring respect and the title back to the Mafia. Angle was on board, but it was obvious they weren't talking about the same exact thing. They shook hands...

2. Sting defeated Eric Young in 3:04. Young clapped for Sting and Sting patted him on the back. Young did the Ric Flair flip into one corner, run to the top rope, and get caught in a bodyslam spot. Sting scored the first nearfall. Young fought back and hit a series of moves until he tried a missile dropkick. Sting caught him and locked in the Scorpion Death Lock. Young tapped out...

Twill's Two Cents: Solid action for three minutes but no surprise with the finish. This was not about making Young look strong.

Angelina Love and security were shown walking through the back... [C]

[Q5] JB said there have been hirings and firings in TNA. Do you want to know what they are? Text TNA to 81676. Kids, get your parents permission. JB asked Mick Foley who the former world champion was who would face Foley tonight? They played the "Is this who I think it is?" game. Foley told JB to grab him a steel chair...

A video aired showing Awesome Kong destroying the Beautiful People in order to get her hands on Angelina Love...

Jim Cornette and three referees were in the ring for the official contract signing. Angelina came out first and it is just not the same without Velvet Sky. Cornette sent Love's security away. Kong came out with Raisha Saeed. Angelina signed the contract. Saeed signed as the "manager of record" for Kong.

Angelina asked Kong to put their differences behind them. She said she was truly "sore-ry." She said they should have a really good match and afterwards, she would give her a makeover and send her to the best fat farm in the world. She said Kong would then be a member of the Beautiful People and "not the hideous beast you are right now." They shook hands, and Love was choked. Rudy Charles stepped in and took an Awesome Bomb through the table... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Solid segment and I hope Love somehow holds onto the title because she is awesome as the heel champion. Kong is really getting over as a babyface. The tag title and Knockout title divisions look very strong right now.

In case you just tuned in, footage was shown from "Moments Ago." I wonder how many tattoos Love has. It should be fifteen or more...

Lauren was pissed at Dr. Stevie and went through his "office." Abyss tried to calm her down. Lauren apparently was Taylor Wilde's sorority sister and "that's a bond that can never be broken." Lauren said she shouldn't have to face Daffney. Stevie was out of the office until Monday...

Twill's Two Cents: That's true about the sorority sister thing. My Grandma went to yearly reunions up until they all passed away. By the way, Lauren is good in everything she does for TNA.

[Q6] Tenay and West ran down the PPV card and future TNA shows. Backstage, Lauren interviewed AJ Styles. He cut a promo about "I quit" not being in his vocabulary, yet he said "I quit" about twenty times in the promo. AJ said there was nothing between him and Samoa Joe anymore... [C]

Lauren interviewed Matt Morgan backstage. Morgan wants to be in the Main Event Mafia. He said it was a business decision, like when Kevin Garnett left the Minnesota Timberwolves to join a winner in Boston. He said he hopes Angle does not take tonight's loss personally...

Twill's Two Cents: The Garnett reference seemed odd, but maybe that was Jarrett taking a shot at Dot Net's own Jason Powell!

3. Kurt Angle defeated Matt Morgan in 8:14. Morgan impressed early with his overwhelming power and dominated Angle on the floor. Morgan was in control as the show went to commercial... [C]

[Q7] Back from commercial, Angle was connecting with some right hands, but Morgan hit a backbreaker for a two count. Tenay talked about the importance of the PPV being named "Sacrifice." I hope they don't get this literal when they have "Hard Justice."

Angle hit a German Suplex sequence. He tried the Angle Slam but Morgan countered and hit a running boot for a very nearfall. Angle reversed a chokeslam attempt with a victory roll into the Ankle Lock. Morgan powered out. Angle tried a high crossbody and Morgan hit a fallaway slam. Morgan tried the Hellevator, but Angle applied a small package for the win...

After the match, Angle and Morgan shook hands. Angle pointed at Morgan and nodded in a sign of respect...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun match. Morgan was impressive here and I like the intrigue regarding Morgan and the Mafia moving forward. Good match and solid segment.

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Jeff Jarrett, who was up next and not even dressed, and asked him if he should even be walking, much less wrestling. Jarrett made it clear he was out to get Foley and nothing else mattered. He said anyone but Foley would leave Sacrifice with the title and "business would be back to normal." ... [C]

Lauren interviewed Jenna Morasca backstage. Jenna said Sharmell has until Sunday to give her an apology. That was about the whole promo...

A Mick Foley video played...

Samoa Joe and Jeff Jarrett made their entrances. Unfortunately for the boss, Jarrett is with guitar. I'm with him on this. Get rid of that thing Jeff...

4. Jeff Jarrett defeated Samoa Joe by disqualification in 2:42. Joe met Jarrett in the aisle but the bell rang and the match started anyway. Joe beat the crap out of Jarrett throughout the crowd. Tenay reiterated the importance of Jarrett putting his voting shares, his power, on the line this Sunday. West and Tenay argued over Jarrett's hamstring injury.

Twill's Two Cents: I wondered before why Sting was willing to "sacrifice" his career when he could have done something less severe. I know Jarrett had to make a sacrifice too, but his voting shares? He could have done something else too.

The match never made it into the ring. Joe threw referee Slick Johnson into the railing. He then took a chair to Jarrett's hamstring. The referee rang the bell and apparently, Joe was disqualified. AJ Styles came out to stop Joe, and they had to be restrained by security... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I am digging what they are doing with Joe right now. He is getting his badass edge back. He is kicking people's asses and not caring about repercussions. This is exactly how to rebuild Joe.

[Q8] Footage was shown of Foley's announcement from earlier in the show referring to the "former world champion" in the building. TNA World Champion made his ring entrance with a chair. Foley took the mic and thanked the fans in the arena and at home. Foley put over his opponent, but you know where this is going. He introduced his opponent, "Rocky Balboa."

Mickey, two TNA guys, and a Rocky cutout came out to the ring. I actually have that Rocky cutout. Don West comically put over Rocky's battles with Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago. The fans chanted "Rocky." ...

5. Mick Foley defeated Rocky Balboa in a non-title match in 1:25. Rocky landed a couple of left hooks, but Foley quickly took over. Foley did the People's Elbow and almost tripped over Rocky. There's your World Champion TNA. Foley pinned Rocky...

Foley took the mic and turned to "Mickey" and said, "What about my prime Mick? At least you had a prime." He then continued to quote Rocky movies. "Except for my kid being born, this is the greatest night in the history of my life. I just want to say one thing to my wife who's home. Yo Colette, I did it!!!" Jeff Jarrett's music hit and he came out to the ring.

He attacked Foley. Angle followed and put Jarrett in the Ankle Lock. Sting was the last man out and played the peace maker. Foley hit Sting with a chair. Jarrett hit the Stroke on Angle. Foley hit Jarrett with the chair was the only man standing as the show went off the air...

Twill's Two Cents: You didn't think they were just going to give Taz away for free did you? That was mildly entertaining. It was cool hearing the fans chant "Rocky" again. By the way, Jarrett should have been nowhere to be seen there because he should have been selling the beating Joe gave him. Other than that, this was a fun show that did a nice job promoting the pay-per-view.
