5/14 Talons TNA Impact Coverage: Who has control of TNA?; Will the identity of Suicide be revealed?; British Invasion vs. Amazing Red and Suicide in a Team 3D Invitational Tournament Semi-Final Match; Awesome Kong continues her onslaught
By Talon Robinson May 14, 2009 - 08:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV Taped in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] A highlight video aired. This week’s title is “Nightmare at the Asylum.” The Impact Intro aired…

Mick Foley made his way to the ring to open Impact. He was carrying some sort of DVD with him. Mike Tenay referenced an incident earlier in the day involving Foley and Jeff Jarrett. Foley said by May 24th he will be completely focused on the World Title match. Foley bragged about the Jeff Jarrett DVD he held in his hand. Foley said for the first time ever Jeff Jarrett wouldn’t be part of Impact. Foley said he felt partially responsible for that. Foley said he would air a DVD of what happened earlier in the day between him and Jarrett (which was ugly and dark). Foley said his thoughts would be with Jeff Jarrett…

Talons Take: Nice opening segment which continues Foley’s road into insanity. I am excited to see what is on that DVD.

JB was in the locker room of the Main Event Mafia who was without Kurt Angle who JB claimed was acting a Hollywood movie. Scott Steiner said he was the leader of the Mafia tonight. Kevin Nash said Jenna Morasca said she would back the MEM financially as long as Sharmell is exiled from the Mafia… [C]

Talons Take: Interesting to see if Sharmell is exiled or not.

[Q2] JB was in Mick Foley’s office where the Executive Shareholder was taking down a picture of Jeff Jarrett because there “was a crack in the glass.” Eric Young stormed in complaining about not getting an opportunity. EY mouthed off to Foley who made a match between Samoa Joe and Eric Young tonight…

1. Daniels defeated Chris Sabin in 4:30 Sabin and Daniels exchanged counters early on. Both battled on the top rope where Sabin got the upperhand followed by hitting the Hesitation Dropkick. Alex Shelley raked the eyes of Daniels on the outside. Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal appeared on the top of the ramp. Daniels gained the advantage and hit the Chest Compactor on Sabin. Daniels went for the Angel’s Wings but Alex Shelley pulled his leg from the outside allowing Sabin to regain control. Daniels picked up the win with the Best Moonsault Ever…

Talons Take: These two have had better matches on PPV but this was a solid TV Match between the two. I am interested in seeing if Suicide gets unmasked tonight.

Mick Foley were with JB and the referees and compared scars. Foley excused Rudy Charles and Mark Johnson for being too good. He gave the job to Earl Hebner. He directed Hebner that under to circumstance will he disqualify Samoa Joe in his match against Eric Young tonight. Foley said you “don’t cross the ES…” [C]

Talons Take: I love it, EY gets a rub from deranged Mick Foley.

[Q3] Scott Steiner was with Jenna Morasca. Steiner said Morasca needs to stop the crap with Sharmell. Morasca said they need to tighten the leash on Sharmell. Steiner said he would set up a meeting between her and Sharmell where he would be the “modifier” but JB corrected him to a primal yell. Steiner corrected himself and asked if Morasca would take part in the meeting. Morasca said she would if Sharmell apologized…

Talons Take: I enjoy Steiner’s character as being the worst nightmare for the English language.

Mike Tenay and Don West ran down the lineup for tonight…

Talons Take: Looks like a stacked lineup for tonight with a lot of wrestling. We shall see if that is the case.

Lauren was with Angelina Love and asked who she was talking to last week. Angelina said she called the only man she could trust, Cute Kip. Cute Kip said tonight Kong has a stretcher match with him and tonight he would “keep it real…” [C]

Talons Take: And he’s back!

We saw a video of Jeff Jarrett with his daughter. The went and got the mail. Jarrett said Mick Foley doesn’t know what living is…

2. Samoa Joe defeated Eric Young in 2:00 Samoa Joe took the fight immediately to Eric Young. Joe was going to hit EY with a chair but was cut off. Joe reversed the rollup into the Clutch. EY passed out moments later to give Joe the win. After the match Joe carried EY to the back… [C]

[Q4] During the break Samoa Joe put Eric Young in the trunk of a car…

Talons Take: I must be one of the only ones who dig Samoa Joe’s character. Looks like EY might be undergoing a character change of his own.

Mike Tenay interviewed Sting. Sting said he surprised himself last week. Sting said his fight for respect took a major setback at Lockdown. Sting said everything has been worth it. Sting said its gonna be a dawning of a new day or the last day of his career…

Talons Take: Well that kind of explains why Sting put his career on the line.

Lauren was on Taylor Wilde’s date with her. Daffney came up and went crazy on Taylor Wilde for her getting her hair cut. Daffney mentioned Monster’s Ball at Sacrifice. Daffney began choking Wilde until Lauren pulled her off… [C]

Talons Take: I love Daffney. I love her psycho character and am looking forward to Sacrifice.

Another video of Jeff Jarrett and his daughters aired. Jarrett kept taking shots at Mick Foley…

Talons Take: The video makes Jarrett out to be a family man but that’s about it.

[Q5] 3. Awesome Kong defeated Cute Kip in a Stretcher Match in 2:30 Tenay and West mentioned the man-on-woman violence. Cute Kip goozled Kong but Raisha Saeed low blowed Kip. Kong then took Kip down with a few chair shots followed by some big splashes. Kong put Kip on the stretcher to win the match…

Talons Take: Another one bites the dust!

Back with the MEM Steiner told Sharmell that Morasca said it was her fault. Steiner got confused when JB asked when both girls don’t apologize…

Lauren was with Team 3D who said the Invitational was doing well. Brother Ray said the reason they left WWE was because they were tired of wrestling the same teams over and over. The British Invasion jumped Team 3D and laid them out. Moments later Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir walked by the fallen bodies of 3D… [C]

Talons Take: We might have a bigger international faction where the British Invasion aligns with Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir. I’m fine with that.

Another Jeff Jarrett video aired viewing the nightlife of Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett walked by JB who asked for 100 dollars to pay his bill. There was a sign that said Nude Karaoke…

[Q6]4. The British Invasion defeated Amazing Red and Suicide in 4:45 This was a semi-final match for the Team 3D Invitational. Suicide appeared on the announce table during his entrance. Brutus Magnus hit a nice big boot early on. Magnus and Doug Williams hit a double team move and shook hands afterwards. The British Invasion worked over Amazing Red. Suicide botched a move but hit the Rolling Samoan Drop seconds later. Red hit a flipping dive outside on Magnus. While the ref was distracted the Motor City Machine Guns came in and hit a double superkick on Suicide. Williams hit the bombs away leg drop on Suicide for the win...

Talons Take: Entertaining match like anything involving Amazing Red!

After the match Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin continued the assault. Lethal Consequences came to the ring as we went to commercials… [C]

[Q6] Back from the break Jay Lethal called Shelley and Sabin the Rockers then said they would unmask Suicide. Suicide tried to escape but failed. All four attempted to unmask Suicide but the mask wouldn’t come off. Daniels ran to the ring and saved Suicide from the four X Division wrestlers. Don West asked who this guy was that was impersonating Daniels. Tenay called West an idiot. Suicide and Daniels shook hands as Daniels mouthed that Suicide owed him one… [C]

Talons Take: Don West was really funny here! Entertaining segment! I hope we see Daniels and Suicide vs The Machine Guns at Sacrifice.

[Q6] In the MEM locker room Sharmell and Jenna Morasca got into it with Scott Steiner breaking it up…

5. Kevin Nash defeated No Limit in a Handicap Match in 2:30 This match was to prepare Nash for Samoa Joe at Sacrifice. This was an extended squash match. Nash hit the Jackknife Powerbomb on Naito for the win. After the match Nash grabbed a mic and talked about violence. Nash said violence isn’t called Samoa Joe, its called Kevin Nash…

Talons Take: Good way to make Nash dominant but unfortunately is was at the benefit of No Limit.

In his office Mick Foley was reviewing the DVD and talking to his sock… [C]

Lauren interviewed AJ Styles asking him about his I Quit Match at Sacrifice. AJ said he was preparing for this match his whole life saying he is in the best shape of his life. AJ said he has heart and he will never say “I Quit…”

Talons Take: To my knowledge the match at Sacrifice will be the second I Quit Match in TNA History.

[Q8]6. Booker T defeated Jethro Holliday in an I Quit Match in 5:00 Booker chopped the chest of Holliday but Jethro no sold it. Holliday clotheslined Booker to the outside. Booker gained control on the outside. Jethro said something about Booker’s mama when asked if he quit. A flurry of punches on Jethro gave Booker more of an advantage. Holliday had a short comeback but could get into it. One time the referee asked Jethro if he quit but Jethro said Sharmell looks good naked. Holliday countered the Axe Kick and gained control. Jethro hit a huge clothesline spinning Booker upside down. Sharmell slid a chair into Booker who smacked it across the head of Holliday. This was followed by an Axe Kick. Holliday quit seconds later…

Talons Take: Good preview for Sacrifice. This shouldn’t have been an I Quit match especially since the I Quit Match had never been done before.

Mick Foley went into the production truck and advised Keith Mitchell to air the DVD when Foley directed him to… [C]

Mick Foley went to the ring. Foley directed Keith the play the DVD. Jeff Jarrett talked about the TNA Asylum. Jarrett talked about his history in the arena. All of a sudden Mick Foley attacked Jarrett wrapping a cord around his neck. As he was getting beat up Jeff said Mick lost his mind. Foley said “welcome back to the Asylum because he’s heading to the Impact Zone.” He then called the Asylum a dump. Foley said sometimes you can’t go home again… [C]

Talons Take: Well that wasn’t a real good go-home moment. I did like TNA building Jarrett to be a good guy who was attacked by the demented Foley. There is no escape for Jarrett because TNA Management won’t fire Foley. Overall there was a lot happening during the show, a lot of wrestling some talking. I wish TNA would slow thing down.
