5/7 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Jeff Jarrett, Mick Foley, Daniels, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle, Sting, Scott Steiner, Booker T, and Kevin Nash in a ten man tag team match, Awesome Kong vs. Velvet Sky in a stretcher match
May 7, 2009 - 10:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL

[Q1] A video aired with the theme of friends becoming enemies and former enemies reuniting. The Mafia vs. Jarrett, Foley, and the rest of the crew was featured. Tonight's show is entitled "Mafia reloaded." The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show...

The Main Event Mafia's music played and the entire entourage accompanied Kurt Angle to the ring. Here's your drinking game for tonight: Take a shot every time you hear "The Godfather." Actually, you would have been drunk by now. Angle said he and Sting kicked Foley's ass last week. He said he did not take over as executive shareholder because he wanted Foley to keep some dignity.

Twill's Two Cents: Actually, "executive shareholder" is a position you cannot earn by kicking someone's ass.

Angle talked about being in the main event at Sacrifice and if he was pinned, the person that pinned him would take over as the head of the Mafia. He then talked about tonight's ten man tag team match and wondered why Mick Foley would give that match away for free...

Twill's Two Cents: I guess Angle is reading Twilling's Blog on Dot Net because I wondered the exact same thing.

Angle called out Mick Foley and Foley obliged. He came out with his title and with (Christopher) Daniels. Foley said he thought he was immune from the Mafia but he was taken out last week. He also said he did not think he would see Sting for a long time after the beating he gave him. He called Sting a great champion.

Foley talked about receiving 25 stitches. "Whoa whoa whoa," exclaimed Angle. "I won an Olympic gold medal with a broken freakin' neck you idiot." Angle talked about tonight's main event as the funeral of the five babyfaces. Foley said he would walk out of Sacrifice as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and the Godfather of the Main Event Mafia.

Jeff Jarrett's music hit and he came out with AJ Styles. Jarrett wondered what the hell was going on. Foley said it was just business. Jarrett told Foley to kiss his ass. Angle asked why "we can't just all get along?" Wow...

In the back, a mysterious driver dropped off Samoa Joe. Lauren wondered who it was but Joe just walked away... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Could you imagine Tony Soprano vs. Paulie Walnuts in a wrestling match to determine who would be the head of the family? Me neither.

[Q2] TNA produced a new "Toughest Tag Teams" DVD. Go to TNAWrestling.com and buy it...

Footage was shown of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin accusing Daniels of being Suicide followed by Daniels attacking the Machine Guns...

1. Suicide defeated Consequences Creed (with Jay Lethal) in 4:01. This is a non-title match. Suicide appeared out of nowhere as Creed and Lethal looked the other way. Every time Suicide hit a move, Don West said Daniels used the same move. Tenay played dumb and West called Tenay, "an untrained eye." Funny.

Creed hit his Road Dogg like spots early on. West said Daniels appeared in the first segment and had to rush to get ready for this match, which is why Creed got off to a hot start. Creed scored a nearfall with a nice two kick combination. By the way, Suicide was obviously Daniels before, but this guy is not as slender. Suicide scored the win out of nowhere...

Twill's Two Cents: A forgettable match that allowed the announcers to put over the main event and whether or not Daniels is Suicide. Creed was absolutely forgotten here.

A video aired of Mick Foley and the various sacrifices he has made in his career. In Mick Foley's office, Matt Morgan begged Foley for a match to prove himself the Mafia. Foley booked him vs. the Mafia security guys. Jeremy Borash wondered why Foley would want Morgan in the Mafia. Foley said he needed to tweak the match. "When a problem comes along, you must tweak it," sang Foley... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Tweak it. Tweak it good. Na na na na nah...

[Q3] Backstage, Lauren interviewed The Beautiful People. Velvet was freaking out because Madison Rayne was in the hospital in three days after facing Awesome Kong. Angelina tried to make her feel better but Sky was scared...

Tenay conducted a sit down interview with Kurt Angle and the Mafia. Angle said he resolved his issues with Sting and the group wants to hold the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Sting reiterated this. Tenay asked what was up between Sharmell and Jenna Morasca. Nash said things were fine but Sharmell looked pissed. He asked Scott Steiner about his relationship with Jeff Jarrett. Steiner said their friendship was over and the MEM would take over TNA...

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Taylor Wilde. Taylor was very excited about her secret admirer and asked Lauren to come with her when they met on Tuesday... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I'll give TNA credit for keeping the Mafia together. I like them as a unit and I hope Angle wins at the PPV. Does anyone think anyone other than Abyss will be Taylor's secret admirer?

A commercial aired for a new Michael Irvin show. Why does this guy continue to get work? He is a druggie that can barely read. Someone I used to know rather closely would probably love him. Ugh... [C]

JB interviewed Jeff Jarrett backstage asking him what he was going to do about Mick Foley. Jarrett said he was going to get ready for the match and threw JB out...

Twill's Two Cents: Was Jarrett dumb enough to sign over all of his (storyline) power to Foley?

2. Matt Morgan defeated the Main Event Mafia Security in a handicapped match in 3:04. Morgan dominated one of the security guys as this was a traditional handicapped match and not a tornado match...

Twill's Two Cents:By the way, Mafia families do not have security. They have specific muscle with minimal brain power, but they don't wear shirts that say "Security."

Morgan kicked both guy's asses and won the match with a big boot...

[Q4] JB interviewed Foley backstage. Foley said he need to tweak the main event. JB said he would get the word out via myspace, facebook, or twitter. Foley banned Jarrett's guitar from ringside. He then said he did not want to be bothered... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Foley has been fantastic in his current role. I am really enjoying his unstable persona as opposed to "happy go lucky, I always get my ass kicked" Mick Foley.

Lauren interviewed Eric Young and Jethro Holiday backstage. Young said a few things and Holiday blew snot at Lauren...

Team 3D came out to observe the match. As Beer Money came to the ring Team 3D, at the announce table, put over Beer Money as the tag team of the future...

Twill's Two Cents: I love when bitter rivals put each other over. Respect amongst rivals is something you don't see too often anymore.

3. Beer Money defeated Jethro Holiday and Eric Young in 4:48. Team 3D put over tag team wrestling and the TNA Tag Team Championships. Tenay asked Ray to comment on Jim Ross' comments that tag team wrestling is not a priority anymore. Ray said tag team wrestling may not be a priority in the company Ross works for, but it is in TNA...

Twill's Two Cents: The random mentions of WWE in the past by TNA were unnecessary. However, this was well done and if WWE wants to neglect tag team wrestling, TNA should seize the opportunity to present something different.

Beer Money double teamed Holiday, but Young hit a double dropkick on both members of Beer Money. Young walked right into the Last Call, and then they hit the DWI for the win. After the match, 3D genuinely gave Beer Money respect as they stared each other down...

Twill's Two Cents: Again, I love the mutual respect and Brother Ray is right; tag team wrestling is alive and well in TNA, but not in WWE. That is something TNA should advertise and I am loving everything about this tournament.

[Q5] Backstage, Lauren interviewed Raisha Saeed and Awesome Kong. Kong called Angelina a "dumb blonde, dead blonde." ... [C]

Footage was shown of Awesome Kong decimating Madison Rayne and her being carried off on a stretcher. Velvet Sky and Angelina made their way to the ring...

Twill's Two Cents: I would never cheat on Taylor Swift, but if she ever broke up with me, Velvet would be a great rebound relationship.

4. Awesome Kong (with Raisha Saeed) defeated Velvet Sky (with Angelina Love) in a stretcher match in 3:39. As the match began, Saeed and Love were sent to the back by referee Earl Hebner. Velvet gave it her all early in the bout, but she is just too gorgeous to match up with Kong. Kong hit the Implant Buster early on. She hit it again. She hit a third one and Tenay mentioned that Kong had never spoken on Impact before tonight...

Twill's Two Cents: Shouldn't they have made a bigger deal out of Kong speaking?

Kong hit a fourth and fifth Implant Buster. As Hebner was counting, Kong pulled Sky off of the stretcher and hit an Awesome Bomb. Hebner quickly counted to ten and Sky was taken away... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I know Love is the champion and the chase makes sense, but does Velvet need to be completely buried?

[Q6] Abyss met again with Dr. Stevie, who we saw on camera. Stevie had a surprise and the surprise was Daffney. He told Abyss to transfer his aggression to Daffney. Stevie said there would be a Knockout Monster's Ball at Sacrifice and he wanted Abyss to be in Daffney's corner...

Twill's Two Cents: Damn, Daffney is hot!

For some reason, Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal came to the ring. They called out Daniels and his music started playing way too quickly. Daniels came out to the ring. Creed put over Daniels and Lethal chimed in with, "You're Suicide." They both said the Machine Guns were onto something and Daniels was Suicide.

Creed accused Daniels of being Suicide. Daniels said if Creed would have worried about beating Suicide instead of who was under the mask, he would not have had his ass kicked earlier in the night. Lethal played up the Machismo character. Daniels said he was not in the mood for jokes and Jay Lethal was the biggest joke in TNA. Lethal slapped Daniels and the Machine Guns' music hit.

Shelley and Sabin came out. Shelley cut a nice promo heeling the crowd and saying the X Division Championship is not as sexy now. Sabin said next week, the Guns would unmask Suicide and treat the fans to a "gun show." ...

Twill's Two Cents: Will somebody please put Shelley in a main event?

Backstage, JB listed off numerous crazy things Foley has done to Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett didn't know what to do until Sting came in. Sting said he never bitched about not getting a rematch with Foley. He said if he pinned Foley tonight, he wanted to be included in the main event at Sacrifice. Jarrett shook his hand and both men threw out too many "sacrifice" cliches... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I have a feeling Angle is not going to win this match.

[Q7] Backstage, Lauren cockily interviewed Angelina Love. Angelina received a phone call and told the person on the other end she did not care about Spike TV's male on female violence policy, she needed him there next week...

Twill's Two Cents:I hope it is someone other than Kip James.

A Main Event Mafia video aired showcasing a timeline that took place over the last several weeks. The Mafia came out to the ring. Angle is still that rose. At least he isn't carrying a cat...

5. Kurt Angle, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Booker T, and Sting (with Jenna Morasca and Sharmell) defeated Jeff Jarrett, Mick Foley, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Daniels when Sting pinned Foley in 11:03.In a cool spot, Jarrett waited for his pyro, but Foley's music played instead... [C]

Steiner and Samoa Joe started the match. Joe tagged in Daniels and Daniels hit a high cross body for the first nearfall. West said it was the first time ever the MEM teamed together as a team of five, and it was also the first time ever Jarrett, Foley, Styles, Joe, and Daniels teamed together as well...

Twill's Two Cents: Yeah, because there are frequent ten man tag team matches that require five guys to team together. Hardly a noteworthy happening Don.

[Q8] Styles and Booker found themselves working together. Booker enjoyed an early advantage, but Styles took over and scored a nearfall. As Tenay was sending the broadcast to commercial, Booker hit a spin kick... [C]

Back from commercial, Kevin Nash was working over Styles before tagging in Sting. Tenay reminded us the guitar was banned. Of course, this is not a no DQ match, so why they would have to mention that is beyond me.

Styles continued to take a beating from the Mafia. Steiner covered AJ but Joe broke it up. Angle tagged in but Styles hit the Pele Kick. Foley tagged in and worked over Sting. Everyone started to come into the ring. Jarrett hit a Pedigree on Angle.

Twill's Two Cents: Insert your Triple H joke here.

Back in the ring, the referee lost control. Everyone was attacking everyone. Jarrett grabbed Foley's barb wire baseball bat but Foley took it from Jarrett. Jarrett attacked Foley and hit the Stroke onto the bat. Sting slid into the ring and pinned Foley. Jarrett looked shocked and the babyface team argued amongst themselves. Tenay said we would hear from Sting after the break... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: It was predictable Sting would pin Foley here, but I like how they got there. It was not necessary to make this a ten man tag when the focus was only on a few of them, but I was satisfied with this. By the way, how did Mike Tenay know Sting would be interviewed after the break?

Back from commercial, Sting reminded Foley he would now be in the main event at Sacrifice. I guess there was more to it, because Sting said he needed to make a Sacrifice. He said if anyone pinned him at Sacrifice, he said he would never wrestle again. Sting left the ring, the lights went out, and a spotlight focused on Foley's bat and Sting's microphone...

Twill's Two Cents: Nicely done TNA. Finally, the TNA Championship actually has some meaning and everyone battling for the title is willing to put something on the line. I like this and just like past TNA PPVs, the main event is being built up very well, and the rest of the card has some way to go.
