4/2 Talon's TNA Impact Coverage: Double Main Event; A TNA Frontline resurgence?Taylor Wilde vs. Madison Rayne, who will captain the TNA team in the Lethal Lockdown match?
By Talon Robinson Apr 3, 2009 - 10:59 AM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] A Samoa Joe video aired including the happenings of last week’s show involving the Samoan Submission Machine… The title of the evening is “Still Crazy after all these years…” The Impact intro aired…

The show kicked off as Jeff Jarrett made his way to the ring. Jarrett claimed that the plan was that over the next few weeks both teams would reveal their team members and also there would be a series of matches to determine who would receive the advantage at Lockdown. Because of Joe not wanting to be captain, Jeff Jarrett named AJ Styles the team captain. AJ came to the ring with the Legends Belt over his shoulder.

Jarrett told AJ over the next few weeks he needed to pick two new members to join AJ and Joe. AJ said he was honored but he had to decline the offer. AJ said he wasn’t qualified to be team captain and said he had let Jarrett down. AJ bragged about how Jeff took a chance on the Independent Wrestlers to create TNA but they let Jarrett down. He asked Jeff to lead them and this time they wouldn’t let them down. Jarrett and AJ then embraced in the ring as Jarrett obviously accepted the position.

Scott Steiner then made his way to the ring. Steiner told Steiner that when he started TNA it was full of nobodies and wannabes. Steiner ran down Jarrett’s history with Steiner. Steiner said Jarrett had nothing in common with the young guys of TNA. He said he, Jarrett and Jarrett’s wife asked Steiner to take care of Steiner and his girls after he was gone. Steiner asked Jarrett to join the Main Event Mafia. AJ grabbed the mic and said not to go down memory lane and do what’s right. AJ challenged Steiner to start off the Man Advantage Series tonight, which Steiner accepted…

Talon’s Take: To let you all know, I wasn’t watching the ER Finale, my computer crash even though I would have preferred the first. Strong opening segment but for once I wish that TNA would begin with some strong wrestling to open a show.

In the MEM Locker Room Kurt Angle discussed Jeff Jarrett. Angle then talked about Mick Foley vs. Sting and how Foley was losing his mind. Angle said Jarrett should be where he belongs. Kurt Angle said the problems between he and Sting were all Angle’s fault but Sting proved two weeks ago that he was with the Mafia. Kurt then addressed Nash saying he should kiss up to someone to invest millions of dollars into TNA to benefit the Main Event Mafia. They all then put their hands in and did a respect chant… [C]

Talon’s Take: And that’s where Jenna Morasca fits in!

[Q2] Back from the break Lauren was with Sheik Abdul Bashir who was given 15 seconds to speak his mind. Bashir said TNA’s problems are much bigger than him. He was joined by Kiyoshi and Team No Limit. Bashir said tonight “united we stand, divided you fall...”

Talon’s Take: An Anti-American faction, I still have to consider if I like this idea or not.

1. Sheik Abdul Bashir, Kiyoshi and Team No Limit defeated LAX and Lethal Consequences in 4:00. The heels worked on Jay Lethal early on but a hot tag was made to Jay Lethal. A double suicide dive from both Homicide and Jay Lethal was done onto the heels. Consequences Creed went for the TKO but Bashir reversed into the WMD DDT for the win.

In the back Mick Foley was joking around. Jeff Jarrett stormed in and said that he never thought he would regret allowing Mick Foley to buy into TNA. Jarrett said Scott Steiner was making more sense then Mick Foley these days. Foley said Jarrett was becoming just like Sting by deciding what’s best for Mick. Mick then left and Jarrett questioned what he was going to do next... [C]

Talon’s Take: I am liking Mick Foley’s demented psycho character. This dynamic between Foley, Jarrett and the Main Event Mafia is very intriguing.

[Q3] In the back JB was in the back with Jim Cornette and Team 3D. 3D asked if Cornette was going to return the favor for taking care of the MEM Security a few weeks ago. Team 3D wanted to take care of the Mafia Security. The Security came in and challenged Team 3D. They exchanged words before Rocco and his partner left. Cornette said he didn’t need anymore loud mouth Italians in TNA but apologized to Ray moments later...

Talon’s Take: So the MEM Security are active wrestlers? By the way I think both members of the security team are actually both former members of Phi Delta Slam, a TNA tag team from 2005.

Mike Tenay and Don West were running down the show when the Beautiful People interrupted. She called the fans marks then said that Taylor Wilde would get her hair cut tonight... [C]

Mike Tenay interviewed Mick Foley. Foley called Sting the conscience of TNA as well as the great decider. When asked, Mick Foley said six months ago he never knew he would challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Foley told a story about his son and a leprechaun. Foley told Tenay as it had to do with the World Championship “why the hell not…”

Talon’s Take: I like Foley’s character, it is different than anything that has happened in the past few years with his character.

In Dr. Stevie’s office where Dr. Stevie lectured Abyss on using weapons. Abyss said he accepted a match against Matt Morgan at Lockdown in a “Doomsday Chamber of Blood Match”. Dr. Stevie closed the door then beat on Abyss yelling “no more violence”. We closed the segment with the line “same time next week”… [C]

Talon’s Take: Wow! That’s pretty much all I can say about that. It was interesting, the Doomsday Chamber of Blood will return and we have some more character development between Stevie and Abyss.

In another Rough Cut, Team 3D discussed the hardcore match. Brother Ray said they thrive in Hardcore Matches while Devon said he loves Six Sides of Steel...

2. Team 3D defeated Main Event Mafia Security in 4:00. The members of MEM security are Big Rocco and Sal E. Boy. Beer Money joined on commentary and accidentally distracted Team 3D allowing the MEM Security to jump them from behind. Rocco hit a big splash on Brother Ray early on. Ray fought back and caught Sal with a Samoan Side Slam to allow Brother Devon to tag in. Devon hit a series of clotheslines on both members of MEM Security. Team 3D hit a Reverse 3D on Sal to pick up the win this short match.

After the match the Security attacked 3D with chairs. Beer Money came in the ring and the Security though they would help them but instead Beer Money attacked the Security. Beer Money handed Team 3D their tag team titles back...

Mick Foley walked in the back. He called Jeff Jarrett a party pooper. Samoa Joe walked in and said he wanted every last member of the Mafia and he knew Foley could make that happen. Foley said he “would see what he could do…” [C]

Lauren was with Beer Money and questioned their actions moments ago. Beer Money said they were showing a new side of themselves. Beer Money said until Lockdown they had Team 3D’s back to prevent injuries and excuses. James Storm told Team 3D to bring those crazy fans in Philadelphia to Lockdown because they wanted to see their faces when Beer Money was crowned the undisputed New Japan and TNA Tag Team Champions…

Talon’s Take: It’s good to see the serious buildup between Team 3D and Beer Money. Good show so far yet not as good as last week yet.

Kurt Angle (with the Main Event Mafia) came to the ring and called out Sting, who made his arrival. Kurt Angle said it takes a big man to admit he was wrong. Kurt said if Sting lived the life Kurt lived he would understand why he was so paranoid. Kurt said all he could do is humble himself. Sting told Kurt that a simple handshake won’t fix things. Sting said the Mafia has called the young guys brats but Kurt has to be the biggest brat in TNA. Kurt said Sting was right and he apologized. Sting was going to walk away but Kevin grabbed a mic and told Sting not to walk away. The fans chanted “walk away” to Sting. Kevin said this was about respect but Sting was the only one who could make things right.

All of a sudden Mick Foley’s music hit, and the Hardcore Legends appeared in the rafters with a barbed wire bat. Foley announced that as Executive Shareholder he has booked Sting in a match tonight against Samoa Joe. Foley told Sting to have a nice night… [C]

Talon’s Take: Good segment that continued to tease the rift between the Main Event Mafia. It didn’t make sense for Sting to just accept Kurt Angle’s apology after their history. Also I like the idea that Foley granted Samoa Joe his wish at Foley’s benefit.

In another Dr. Stevie segment, Stevie was with Daffney. Daffney said she was all better after WCW. She said she got a call from Taylor Wilde and Roxxi wanting her to play a prank on the Beautiful People but after they cut her hair the memories she was trying to suppress returned.

Talon’s Take: Yes, they got rid of the Governor character. Good job TNA! I think the Daffney character was fun in WCW and could be more fun in TNA.

3. Taylor Wilde defeated Madison Rayne in 3:00. Taylor Wilde went outside early on which allowed Angelina and Taylor to get a cheap shot on her and give control to Madison Rayne. Rayne hit a nice spinning neckbreaker on Wilde for a 2-count. Wilde fired back with a Northern Light Suplex for a 2-Count of her own. Taylor Wilde picked up the win with a modified rollup. After the match the Beautiful People went to cut the hair of Taylor Wilde but the “Upset Queen” escaped. The Beautiful People yelled at Madison Rayne to go get Taylor... [C]

Talon’s Take: I am assuming this will lead to another multi-person match involving the recipients of the hair cuttings against My Pi Sexy. I didn’t care for this segment. It just seems the Knockouts Division has lost focus for a long time now.

[Q7] In the back Taylor Wilde (in a bathrobe) was beating on Taylor Wilde in a shower room when the Beautiful People came in and cut a little of Taylor’s hair before security broke things up... [C]

In the back Lauren interviewed Jenna Morasca. Lauren was going to tell Morasca what Kurt Angle said earlier but Kevin Nash walked up. Jenna asked what Kurt said but Nash said Kurt said she was the hottest thing around. Nash and Morasca then left together.

Talon’s Take: Morasca is not a very good actress and her lines felt forced.

4. Scott Steiner defeated AJ Styles in 10:00. This is the first of three matches which will determine who will receive an advantage at Lethal Lockdown. AJ took the early advantage on Steiner. Steiner hit a low blow as we headed to commercial...

[Q8] Back from break Steiner was working over AJ Styles. Styles fought back and went for a Styles Clash but Steiner backdropped out of it. AJ went for a Hurricanrana but Steiner caught him with a Powerbomb. AJ went for a flying forearm but Steiner pulled the referee into him. Kurt Angle came out and slid a chair to Steiner but AJ dodged the chairshot and hit the Pele. Jeff Jarrett ran out and took out Kurt Angle. AJ was going to use the chair but Jarrett stopped him knowing it would cost him the match. As Kurt took Jarrett down outside, Steiner hit a modified STO on AJ onto the chair allowing the Mafia to pick up the win and the lead in this series... [C]

Talon’s Take: And now we’re building tension between Jarrett and AJ. I did like the finish though.

5. Sting defeated Samoa Joe by DQ in 3:00. On commentary Don West said Mick Foley was abusing his power booking this match. Samoa Joe went right after Sting with a series of punches. Sting reversed a kick into the Scorpion Deathlock but Samoa Joe easily powered out. Joe was attacking Sting on the turnbuckle when the referee tried to intervene. Joe then through the referee from the ring which resulted in the DQ...

After the match Joe continued the attack on Sting until Booker T came out for the save. Joe regained his advantage and laid out Booker with a kick. Joe went outside for a chair but Sharmell covered her husband. Joe threw the chair aside. He then went outside and pulled Sharmell from the ring. The show came to a close as Joe carried Sharmell backstage.

Talon’s Take: Interesting ending! While I don’t like the whole knife thing, I do like Joe’s more violent character. He is taking everyone out in the Main Event Mafia one by one. Joe manhandled the World Champion, Sting which makes him look really good. This show had a lot going for it but I didn’t think it was anywhere near as good as last week. I still feel they need more wrestling on the show.
