3/5 Talon Robinson's TNA Impact Coverage: LAX vs. Beer Money in an Off The Wagon Challenge for the Tag Team Titles; Alex Shelley vs Kiyoshi for the X Division Title, Four-Corners Knockouts Tag Match
By Talon Robinson Mar 5, 2009 - 10:17 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] Highlights of last week aired including the dissension between Kurt Angle and Sting…

This week’s title is "Stiff Penalty for the Godfather…"

Jeff Jarrett opened the week and announced that Kurt Angle was suspended for a week without pay. Jarrett said Angle’s pay would be given to a very worthy cause…

The Impact intro aired…

Don West addressed his comments last week. He said if he had the opportunity to do it again he would. He then said he would be the announcer until he was relieved of his duties. He told the fans to sit back and enjoy the ride…

Mick Foley made his way to the ring. He then introduced Sting who followed shortly after. Foley thanked Sting for saving him from Kurt Angle last week. He said it wasn’t the only time Sting saved him. Foley reminisced about the day he attacked Sting saying if it was anyone else, the move he did wouldn’t have mattered. Foley wondered if after Destination X Sting would be done with the Main Event Mafia. Foley said he, TNA and the fans need Sting back. Sting said he wouldn’t let Kurt Angle determine if he was part of the Main Event Mafia or not. Foley said he never used Sting like the Main Event Mafia is using him right now.

Kevin Nash, Booker T and Scott Steiner made their ways to the ring with Sharmell. Nash said Mick Foley was part of the office. He said the Mafia was that close to getting the respect he deserved. This ticked Sting off saying he had no problem with Nash, Angle or Steiner but Kurt Angle. Nash said Foley and Jarrett painted Sting in a corner. He said after DX, whether Kurt or Sting wins the TNA Championship stays within the Mafia. He said the only alternative if for Sting to walk away. "While you might be able to live with that, we can’t…" [C]

Talon’s Take: Good opening segment that continues the heat between Sting and Angle. I made the reference of the kids stuck in their parent’s divorce being very similar to this. The Main Event Mafia is stuck between Kurt Angle and Sting. The good build for Destination X continues.

[Q2] We returned with a Rough Cut of Ultimate X. Alex Shelley, Jay Lethal, AJ Styles and others give their favorite Ultimate X moments…

Talon’s Take: Another good video of Ultimate X.

Lauren was with Lethal Consequences who were dressed in nice suits. Lauren questioned where the money came from. Lethal have an impersonation of Ric Flair then said "wrong person…"

Talon’s Take: I am agreeing with JPow here by saying its time to scrap the Black Machismo gimmick. The least they could do is tone it down.

1. Alex Shelley w/ Chris Sabin defeated Kiyoshi w/ Team No Limit in 4:30. TNA gave a brief clip of Global Impact 2 which is coming sometime in March. Don West and Mike Tenay bickered during this match. Alex Shelley got a 2-Count with a Michinoku Driver. Kiyoshi with a Scoop Slam Neckbreaker for two. Shelley comes back with a big Brainbuster followed by a Frog Splash for the win.

Suicide stormed the ring and laid out both members of the Motor City Machine Guns. Don West played the heel and ran down Suicide jumping the Machine Guns from behind. West said Suicide should interject himself into the title match...

Talon’s Take: I am enjoying Don West as a heel. I am seeing Suicide, Lethal Consequences and the Motor City Machine Guns for the X Title in Ultimate X. It was also good to see Team No Limit ringside.

[Q3]In the Mafia’s locker room, Scott Steiner questioned Kurt Angle’ s presence tonight. Kurt said he was there to have fun. Booker informed Kurt that members of the TNA Frontline used Kurt’s money to buy new suits. Kurt said he would have fun and get his property back... [C]

Talon’s Take: Funny little segment just because of Kurt Angle’s facial reactions.

Lauren interviewed Beer Money who had no remorse for Lance Rock or Petey Williams telling them to get another job. James Storm then addressed LAX saying they "don’t understand English."

Talon’s Take: Beer Money is one of the highlights of TNA TV. This was a funny interview.

LAX came ringside. Hernandez told Beer Money that tonight LAX wins the tag titles again…

Booker T was on the phone with someone. He said he would "set him up and you knock him down". Booker then gave a Black Snow impression… [C]

Talon’s Take: Booker T is a parody of himself. For being a main eventer, that is a sad statement.

[Q4] A "win a night with ODB" segment aired featuring Cody Deaner and Shark Boy...

In the back Kurt Angle attacked Consequences Creed for using his money to buy a suit.

2. The Beautiful People defeated Taylor Wilde and Roxxi, Sojourner Bolt and Rhaka Khan and Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed in a four team Knockouts Four Way Match in 7:00. Don West made a really good point about how Sojo Bolt should have used her inside information to find a weak spot of Awesome Kong. At one moment, Sojo Bolt was pinning Roxxi but the Governor distracted the referee. We went to commercials as Madison Rayne walked towards the ring...[C]

Velvet Sky was in control over Taylor Wilde as we returned to commercials. Things broke down in the match as The Beautiful People squared off against Roxxi and Taylor Wilde. The referee was distracted as The Governor hit "The Thrilla from Wasilla" on Angelina Love. However, Cute Kip distracted the ref allowing Madison Rayne to hit a Missile Dropkick on Roxxi leading to the pin from Angelina Love...

Talon’s Take: TNA should have hyped this match last week. Cut the horrible Rhaka Khan promo from last week and add a hype video and more people would know about this match.

Jeremy Borash spoke with Jeff Jarrett who said there will be repercussions for Kurt Angle being here tonight...[C]

[Q5]We saw a recap video of the history between AJ Styles and Booker T...

Booker T made his way to the ring with Scott Steiner and Sharmell. Booker said he was wrong about AJ Styles. Booker requested that AJ Styles come to the ring and give back the Legends Championship. AJ came to the ring from behind but the numbers game caught up to him. AJ Styles escaped the ring but as he was retreated a group of swat guards cut him off from behind and arrested him. A Swat Guard appeared behind Scott Steiner, and was revealed to be Samoa Joe. Joe went after Steiner with the "Samoan Tribal Knife" but was unable to get the job done as Security cut him off. Don West freaked out saying this was wrong and the Main Event Mafia was the best thing going today…[C]

Talon’s Take: I don’t know how to feel about this segment. Joe looks like a badass with his current gimmick and AJ is looking stronger. I also have to question why AJ is so pissed off at Booker T. By the way why did Don West take a huge turn on perspective from last week?

Tenay and West were arguing as we returned from break...

In the parking lot AJ was being put in the police car as Booker was making fun of him...

Don West got pissed off and took off from the announce table, saying he couldn’t look at Mike Tenay’s face. Moments later Kurt Angle and Jay Lethal fought from the back into the ring. Angle hit the Olympic Slam on Jay Lethal and tore the suit off of Lethal...

Talon’s Take: I like this new dynamic between Tenay and West but in reality, West comes off as more of a good guy. Bunching this in with the Kurt Angle and Jay Lethal brawl kinda felt rushed buts its still okay.

Jeremy Borash asked Jeff Jarrett what he thought. Jarrett said he would take care of it by "kicking Kurt’s ass..."[C]

[Q6] In a "Dr. Stevie is In" segment, Abyss talked about Tom and Jerry and how they never really fought but actually were playing. Dr. Stevie asked Abyss if he has become dependent on weapons. Abyss said he is cured of weapon use.

3. Matt Morgan defeated Shane Sewell in 3:00. Matt Morgan got cocky which allowed Shane Sewell to connect with a big dropkick. Shane Sewell led Morgan around the ring and crotched him on the top rope. Morgan fought back with a nice Spinebuster on Sewell. Mike Tenay announced during the match that TNA Management took back the Legends Championship from Booker T. Morgan with a Fallaway Slam for two before pulling his shoulder up. Sewell low blowed Morgan as Hebner conveniently turned his back. However Morgan fought back and won with the Hellevator...

After the match Morgan grabbed a mic and a bag of thumbtacks. Morgan said Abyss can’t compete with him in any shape or form. Morgan said he would sink down to Abyss’level. Morgan challenged Abyss in a Match of 10,000 Tacks.

Talon’s Take: I usually read the spoilers for Impact but don’t let them affect my opinion on a show. Anyone who has read the spoilers knows that a few details were left out this week. Even knowing that, I expected a Match of 10,000 Tacks to take place at Destination X.

Eric Young was in the back confident. He said he spent his money on his cheap suit and surround sound for his game room at home. Kurt Angle attacked Young, but Showtime was able to fight back until Security Intervened again...[C]

Talon’s Take: Young held his own in this fight. I think TNA has a higher opinion on Young than a lot of fans. Could a push be on the way for Young?

[Q7] In the office of Jeff Jarrett, the Founder of TNA and Jim Cornette were arguing. Cornette tried to talk some sense into Jarrett. When asked to help, Foley asked "when is a wrestler always a wrestler." Sting appeared at asked Jarrett to wait two weeks until Destination X, because it’s his fight…

3. LAX defeated Beer Money Inc by DQ in an Off the Wagon Challenge for the Tag Team Titles in 8:30. Homicide started off hot against James Storm. Hernandez hit a suplex on both members of Beer Money Inc. Hernandez then gave Homicide a Border Toss to the outside on both members of Beer Money as we went into commercials...[C]

Homicide went for a missed Tornado DDT on James Storm. Storm connected with a Backstabber move on Homicide. Roode tagged in and went right after Homicide. He cheapshotted Hernandez then tagged back in Storm. Beer Money isolated Homicide in their corner. Hernandez hot tags in and takes out both members of Beer Money. A few near falls from Hernandez. Homicide went for a baseball slide but missed leading to Beer Money hitting each other. Later on Hernandez went for the Border Toss but Robert Roode smacked Hernandez in the head with a chair leading to the disqualification...

[Q8] After the match Beer Money beat down LAX until Team 3D made the save. Brother Ray grabbed a mic and said that Beer Money was low. Ray said that at Destination X, Team 3D is challenging for the World Tag Team Titles...

Talon’s Take: Beer Money came off really good in both the match and the after match promo. Them constantly saying "yep" during Team 3D’s promo was funny but showed they didn’t care about anyone but themselves. LAX looked good in the tag team championship match and it looks like Team 3D is challenging Beer Money Inc at Destination X.

Kurt Angle made his way to the ring accompanied by MEM security. Angle sent the security to the back and called out Jeff Jarrett. Angle said he was going to eat Jarrett alive tonight then Sting at Destination X...[C]

Jeff Jarrett made his way to the ring ready to fight in street clothes. Jarrett and Angle brawled in and around the ring. Jarrett took Angle up in the crowd where Angle crotches him on the steel rail. Jarrett battled back with fisticuffs. Jarrett took Angle and threw him out the door in the Impact Zone. Jarrett was shown celebrating with Team 3D and Mick Foley as the show went to black...

Talon’s Take: It was an okay brawl. Jarrett constantly places himself as one of the top babyfaces which is okay from certain perspectives. I enjoyed this show more than last week but no where near as much as two weeks ago. There were no huge highlights but no real bad moments. I would grade this show a B-
