12/4 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Booker T vs. Samoa Joe for the Legend's Championship, Sting vs. Rhino, Will "Governor Palin" join The Beautiful People?
By Rich Twilling Dec 4, 2008 - 10:01 PM |
|
TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] The show is entitled "All Hail the Governor." The Front Line celebrated with Team 3D backstage as Brother Ray gave them an inspirational speech. He said the new revolution begins tonight and everyone cheered...
The opening video aired. Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show. They plugged tonight's two big matches of Booker T vs. Samoa Joe in a street fight for the Legend's Championship and Sting vs. Rhino...
The Main Event Mafia came out to the ring. Kevin Nash stepped up on the microphone and gave Team 3D credit for fooling the Mafia last week. Nash gave Team 3D sixty seconds to change their mind. Ray and Devon came out and said they would be the tag team partners of Styles and Joe at the pay-per-view.
Ray said every member of the Mafia raped every single company they ever worked for. He said the Mafia broke the code of the boys. He called out the Front Line and they appeared in various parts of the crowd. Rhino cut a promo on Kurt Angle and Sting. Sting looked conflicted, further teasing him possibly leaving the group. Ray said they were going to kick the asses of the Main Event Mafia tonight...
Twill's Two Cents: Solid segment. The Front Line is finally starting to match up with the Mafia.
Tenay sent it back to Jeremy Borash and Lauren with The Beautiful People. They were very excited because Sarah Palin is going to be named an honorary member of their group tonight... [C]
[Q2] Kurt Angle's five top moments in TNA was introduced. Moment number five was Angle winning every TNA Championship and celebrating with Karen Angle...
JB interviewed Booker and Sharmell in their locker room. He asked about their association with The Beautiful People. Sharmell said Booker hired them to protect her through the pay-per-view in her match with ODB. Booker cut a promo on Samoa Joe in his African accent but then flipped the switch to his street voice...
1. Booker T (with Sharmell) defeated Samoa Joe in a Street Fight to retain the TNA Legend's Championship in 8:34. West made reference to the summer feud between these two over the TNA World Title. They almost immediately fought into the crowd and the cameraman was right on their ass with great shots of both men delivering reverse knife edges... [C]
Back from commercial, Joe scored a nearfall as both men found themselves back in the ring. Booker went to the floor and took advantage of Joe, who came out after him. Back in the ring, Booker scored a two count after a standing crescent kick. Joe reversed his fortunes with a snap powerslam for a nearfall.
Joe applied the rear naked choke and Booker tapped out, but Sharmell had the referee distracted. Velvet Sky and Angelina Love came out to the ring and sprayed something in Joe's face. Booker hit the axe kick for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Well, I guess it wasn't the predictable finish of having the Mafia interfere, but it was predictable nonetheless. The match was entertaining up until the finish.
[Q3] Backstage, Scott Steiner spewed out verbal gold as the Mafia looked on with pride at the monitor. He cut a promo on Team 3D saying they did not have enough Twinkies for them or something like that. He vowed to Sting that they would fight for the Sting's title as if it was their own. He ran off and Angle stayed behind to say he had a message for Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Angle looks awfully, um, relaxed every week. I could sit through an entire segment or two of Steiner's promos.
Samoa Joe sat with his head down and a towel over his head. Ray and Devon came in and talked to him like he was their child. Ray needs some help with his math because he said that because they were twenty time tag team champions, they lost the title nineteen times. Well, they are not the current champions, so they lost them twenty times...
ODB hosted "ODB's Angle." This was worthless television. Basically, it set up a six woman tag match between Sharmell and The Beautiful People vs. ODB, Roxxi, and Taylor Wilde for the pay-per-view...
Beer Money approached Abyss backstage. They tried to reason with him and apologized to him. They offered him a drink. Abyss said he wanted to go to the Drunken Clam. Abyss took a shot and used beer as a chaser. Abyss took another shot and started to stumble with his words... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Did Joe have his balls surgically removed or what? He is almost a forgotten member of the Front Line. He looked like a little kid getting a lecture from Dad. Drunk Abyss? Really?
[Q4] Kurt Angle's #3 moment was his debut in TNA...
Twill's Two Cents: Did they skip the #4 moment?
The Beautiful People welcomed the Sarah Palin impersonator, of course as if she was the real thing...
Footage was shown of Christy Hemme training with AJ Styles in preparation for her match against Awesome Kong...
2. AJ Styles and Christy Hemme defeated Scott Steiner and Awesome Kong (with Raisha Saeed and Rhaka Khan) in 8:27. Styles hit Steiner with a dropkick and Kong came in to attack Styles. The rule says Styles cannot fight back and when he tried to, Steiner hit him from behind. Styles was on the apron and Kong closelined him. Styles fell awkwardly. In the ring, Steiner scored a one count and did some pushups... [C]
Styles hit a backbreaker on Steiner for a long two count coming back from the break. Kong tagged in, as did Christy, who found herself in Steiner's corner. Styles came in and took out Steiner. Kong then dominated Christy in the ring. She went for the Awesome Bomb but dropped her to hit a running corner splash on Styles. Styles then put Hemme on his shoulders, she grabbed Kong, and he spun her into a Tornado DDT. Hemme covered Kong for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Relatively entertaining match with some cool double team spots with Styles and Hemme. Of course, Hemme will get killed on Sunday.
[Q5] Kurt Angle and JB found Mick Foley backstage. Angle told Foley he gave him a pass for before, but if he screwed him again, Foley would never walk again. Angle said he had someone, not from the Mafia, to watch his back on Sunday... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Angle "gave him a pass." Nice usage of Mafia-speak. I hope Frank Trigg is not the surprise.
The #2 Kurt Angle moment was Kurt Angle winning the TNA Title in the King of the Mountain match...
Backstage, Abyss was getting plastered with Beer Money. Lauren was still there. Not sure why she needed to stick around. Abyss talked about being a top guy (that ship has sailed). Jacqueline reluctantly sat on Abyss' lap and kissed him. He asked if that meant he wasn't a virgin anymore. He then told Lauren that the kiss meant nothing and hoped things were cool with them...
Twill's Two Cents: What in the hell was that? Seriously. I really want someone to let me know what the hell that was and why it was allowed onto TV.
3. Jay Lethal, Consequences Creed, and Eric Young defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir, Jimmy Rave, and Sonjay Dutt (with SoCal Val) in 4:19. Shane Sewell is the referee and he has "two strikes." After the opening bell, Bashir walked to the announce table and demanded a headset. He said he was above Sewell and Young and would not participate in the match. He said Young would have to wait until Sunday.
Rave and Dutt scored the first nearfall after some nice double team work. Dutt worked over Young as they went one on one. Rave tagged in and once again, he and Dutt worked very well together. Young finally made the tag to Creed and Creed came in like a house of fire.
[Q6] Creed hit the TKO on Rave for the win. Bashir immediately went after Young after the match. Young got the best of Bashir and went after him with the X-Division championship belt...
A promo aired for "Feast or Fired." Creed gave the lame line of, "This is like Roulette and I always bet on black." Ugh...
Twill's Two Cents: There was not much to the match. I cannot believe they are doing Feast or Fired again. Let's hope it doesn't drag on for months like last time.
JB interviewed Sting backstage. Sting was as "face" as he could possibly be towards Styles and Rhino, but he put over the importance of family. He said he was going into the ring with people he trusted at the pay-per-view. He said things needed to be finished and he would be the one to finish them... [C]
The Beautiful People, Lauren, and Sarah Palin were in Booker's locker room. Booker came out of the shower in a towel. Booker pulled Kip aside and told him to get "these two bimbos and that hack" out of there or his family would take care of him. Kip got them out of there...
A Rough Cuts segment featured LAX again. They talked about representing all Latino people, being humble, and doing everything to achieve their dreams. They want to be the best Latino tag team of all time...
Beer Money, Abyss, and Lauren were still backstage. Abyss received a phone call from Matt Morgan. Abyss said they should invite him to join them. Beer Money did not like the idea and broke a full bottle of alcohol over the head of Abyss... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: I'd rather watch Mae Young give birth to 100 hands than watch those horrible segments again. Absolutely terrible.
[Q7] Footage was shown of the Mafia taking out Christian Cage and Rhino getting himself involved in the situation. Jeff Jarrett made the match between Angle and Rhino with Angle's career on the line...
Angle came out and asked Jarrett to come to the ring. Jarrett's music immediately hit as if the production guy was psychic. Jarrett came out to the stage. Angle told Jarrett to enjoy himself tonight and enjoy the fact that tonight might be Angle's last Impact ever. Angle said he focused more as people celebrated, but it was a sick and demented focus.
Angle said his focus on Jeff Jarrett was much stronger than even his focus on the 1996 Olympic games. He continued by saying he would destroy Rhino and taste his blood. After that, he will further cripple Mick Foley and then move on to Jarrett. He said he would own Jarrett, his family, and his company. He said he was out of control and had no idea what he would do to Jarrett when they step into the ring. Jarrett said the only way that will happen is over his dead body. Angle laughed...
Backstage, Lauren interviewed Rhino about his two big upcoming matches. Rhino said Jarrett's daughters were the heart and soul of TNA. Huh?! Rhino's promo was similar to Angle's in that he said he did not know what he was capable of doing to Sting tonight... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: The build to Angle vs. Jarrett is definitely the way to build a match over time, I'm just not so sure I'm interested in seeing it.
[Q8] Suicide (remember him?) cut a promo and said he was on his way out of the hell he was used to...
Team 3D, Styles, and Joe were interviewed by JB. Ray said he and Devon have said enough, so he passed it on to AJ. Styles said he and Joe were like brothers and even mentioned Christopher Daniels as part of their small family. Styles said he would walk out of the pay-per-view as the champion. Joe said that was all that needed to be said...
4. Rhino defeated Sting in a non-title match in 7:57. Rhino dominated Sting with his power early in the match. Rhino threw Sting to the floor and attempted a Gore. He missed and ran through the guardrail. He was bloodied as the show went to commercial... [C]
Sting was in complete control coming back from the break. Rhino's face looked like Sting's nWo Wolfpac paint. After Rhino hit a shoulder block, Kurt Angle came out to support Sting. AJ Styles came out as well. Styles' new shirt has a silhouette of him in the air for a flying forearm and the back says, "The Flying Forearm." Really? That's weak.
Angle distracted the referee while Sting had the Scorpion Death Lock applied to Rhino. Styles helped Rhino out and Rhino gored Sting for the win. All of a sudden, the rest of the Front Line were in the ring celebrating with Rhino. Rhino held up the TNA Championship, but this was a non-title match...
A video aired hyping the pay-per-view and the show ended at 7:57 PST. Wow...
Twill's Two Cents: Nice win for Rhino and nice to see the Mafia showing some vulnerability. I think Sting's involvement in the group is a good thing and I hope they don't rush him out of it. I also hope they don't tease him leaving the group for a long time. Let him be a member of the group for awhile.
