11/6 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Sting, Kurt Angle, and Kevin Nash vs. Jay Lethal, Eric Young, and Consequences Creed; Mick Foley confronts A.J. Styles
Nov 6, 2008 - 10:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL

[Q1] Footage aired of the last week's happenings between the Main Event Mafia and the young stars of TNA...

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show. The main event of Samoa Joe vs. Scott Steiner was plugged...

The music of the MEM hit and they came out to the ring. Kurt Angle introduced the "Hitman" of the MEM, Scott Steiner. Steiner came out in a suit to his own music. Steiner and Nash gave each other the old nWo finger bump.

Steiner gave a promo that only Steiner could give. He actually came across as more of a face than anything. He said the guys in the back go to "mark wrestling sites looking to see if you had a four or five star match." He tore Styles and Joe a new one. You had to see this to believe it. He told the young guys the closest they would come to greatness was when they faced one of the members of the MEM.

Samoa Joe and a bunch of young guys came out to the stage. Joe said they might be offended if they could have understood half of what Steiner had to say. Funny. Joe said he would give Steiner something to talk about at the "Millionaire's Club Circle Jerk" when he chokes him out tonight. Joe said Steiner was a nice free agent acquisition but they had one of their own. Christian Cage's music hit and he came out to the stage.

Cage told Joe he did not and would not pick a side, but he was willing to lend a helping hand. Christian said the young guys just wanted the same opportunities that the established guys had. He then said he would win the Legend's Title from Booker T, stand over him, and say, "I am legend." Booker said Christian would be forced to join the MEM on Sunday and Booker would own his punk ass...

Twill's Two Cents: That was, well, unspectacular. I guess we needed that to establish some things and Steiner was at his incoherent best, but I do not want to see a bunch of segments like that one. By the way, happy birthday to my favorite reader!

[Q2] Mick Foley and AJ Styles arrived at the arena. Foley said he had something to say to Styles but he wanted everyone to hear it... [C]

Tenay and West are standing up now. Did I miss that from last week? They ran down tonight's card...

1. Booker T (with Sharmell) and Beer Money Inc. (with Jacqueline) defeated Christian Cage and The Motor City Machine Guns in 5:18. Why is Booker teaming with Beer Money? The Guns demonstrated their fast offense at the onset of the match. The heels gained the advantage and kept it for awhile on Sabin. Cage tagged in and worked over both tag team champions. Booker stayed on the apron.

Cage went for a frog splash but Roode pushed him off the top rope. Booker tagged in and Cage quickly hit a frog splash on him for a nearfall. Roode and Storm broke up the pinfall. Cage had the pin on Booker but Jacqueline distracted the referee. Booker used the Legend's belt to knock Christian out for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Okay, a BS finish like that is exactly what this program does not need. It is predictable and overdone.

[Q3] JB interviewed Jeff Jarrett in his office. Jarrett said he and not Kurt Angle will decide when he steps back into the ring... [C]

Kurt Angle came into Jarrett's office. Foley stood next to Jarrett. Angle told Jarrett he would never forget Bound for Glory and after he takes care of him, Foley was next on his hitlist. Angle mentioned what he might do to Jarrett's daughters and Jarrett went off...

Twill's Two Cents: Seriously, wrestling angle or not, please leave Jarrett's daughters out of this. What exactly does Kurt plan to do them? Ugh.

Backstage, Raisha Saeed and Awesome Kong laid out Roxxi. Taylor Wilde and JB hit the scene and JB ordered the show to go to commercial... [C]

Lauren tried to give us an update on Roxxi. I couldn't help but notice that gigantic picture of Karen Angle in the trash in the background...

2. Matt Morgan and Abyss defeated Team 3D, LAX, and Tanahashi and Volador in a ladder match to earn a future shot at the TNA World Tag Team Championship in 7:54. The contract for the title shot was hanging above the ring... [C]

[Q4] Coming back from the break, Morgan was climbing the ladder but Team 3D tipped the ladder and dumped him to the floor. Hernandez dove over the top rope but missed and hit a standing ladder. Brother Ray hit a Rock Bottom on Abyss before inadvertently taking out the referee. Team 3D were on their way to winning when Beer Money gave them simultaneous low blows. Abyss climbed the ladder and grabbed the contract...

Twill's Two Cents: Passable action but this show just is not clicking tonight.

Mick Foley was shown walking through the backstage area... [C]

The latest Suicide video aired. He had nothing to say this time...

[Q5] TNA "Executive Shareholder" Mick Foley came out to the ring. Foley said it was nice to be back in the Impact Zone and it gave him a lot of pride to introduce AJ Styles. Styles joined Foley in the middle of the ring. Foley admitted that while he had heard of Styles six years ago, he was not completely sure of who Styles was.

Foley told us that Raven referred to Styles as "phenomenal." He also called Sting one of the greatest champions of all time. He called Styles the "TNA President elect" of the young wrestlers. Foley hoped the ugliness between Styles and Sting would end. Sting's music hit and he came out in his ring gear with the belt draped over his shoulder.

Sting said he respected Mick Foley for a variety of reasons. He told Foley that he has never lied to Foley and the young guys would disrespect him too. Styles called Sting spoiled and compared him to Ric Flair. Sting made it personal and talked about Styles' son. Styles tried to go after Sting but Foley held him back... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Sting was good here and Styles was average. This was not a blow away segment to advance the feud but it was not bad either. It was just sort of there.

Backstage, Lauren asked Taylor what she was going to do. She said she was going to fight and dedicated the match to Roxxi. She turned straight into the boobs of Rhaka Khan. Khan offered up her services for the evening...

3. Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed defeated Taylor Wilde and Rhaka Khan in 3:23. Taylor went right after Kong as the announcers put over a potential matchup between Khan and Kong. That was fast. Taylor had trouble with Kong but some success with Saeed.

[Q6] Taylor took a prolonged beating before tagging in Khan. They stared each other down before Khan chokeslammed Taylor. Kong hit the Implant Buster for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: That was a program that could have gone for weeks all rolled into a few minutes. Khan vs. Kong would have been a cool feud; maybe they will build to that over time.

JB interviewed Kevin Nash backstage. Nash said he knew Joe was a piece of shit when he ran down Scott Hall. Nash gave a great promo saying he was in the best shape of his life. He said he has faced Samoa Joes before but Joe has never faced Kevin Nash. He wanted to know if Joe was ready... [C]

Mike Tenay conducted a sit down interview with Sheik Abdul Bashir in what looked like an empty movie theatre. Bashir came across much better here than he has in his past promos. He said the way he looked has been a problem because of 9/11. He said he loved America and loved this country, but the people in this country have treated him unfairly.

Tenay told Bashir it was him that lobbied to have Bashir brought into the company. Bashir said nobody but him should take credit for his success. They started to argue and Bashir spoke to Tenay in his native language. Tenay yelled at him to speak English before security separated them...

Twill's Two Cents: I am not thrilled talking about 9/11 in 2008 on a wrestling show, but that was pretty well done.

Tenay and West ran down the card for Turning Point...

[Q7] The Main Event Mafia made their entrance. Eric Young, Consequences Creed, and Jay Lethal separately made their entrances... [C]

4. Sting, Kurt Angle, and Kevin Nash defeated Jay Lethal, Eric Young, and Consequences Creed in 4:06. All three members of the MEM had success with Lethal before Young tagged in and took out all three of his opponents. Creed tagged in and looked great in scoring a nearfall on Angle. Angle then hit an Angle Slam out of nowhere on Creed for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: That was about what anyone would have expected from that match.

Rhino cut a "Yay for the USA" promo on Sheik Abdul Bashir. He said he would deport him at the pay-per-view...

[Q8] A video aired focusing on the feud between the TNA Originals and the Main Event Mafia with an emphasis on Kevin Nash vs. Samoa Joe...

5. Scott Steiner defeated Samoa Joe in 8:11. Steiner wrestled in his shirt. I'm just sayin'. Joe attempted to lock in the rear naked choke but Steiner countered with a low blow. Steiner scored a nearfall with an overhead belly to belly suplex although it looked more like a released Northern Lights suplex. Steiner dropped an elbow for a one count before doing some pushups... [C]

As Joe took the advantage in the match, Kevin Nash hit the scene. Joe went after Nash and Steiner took over. Joe went after Nash with a suicide dive. Steiner loaded up with brass knuckles. He knocked out Joe for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Really? That was the buildup to the pay-per-view? How many screw job finishes can they come up with?

Nash mounted Joe after the match and hit multiple right hands. Styles came out with a chair to run off Nash and Steiner. The MEM came out and applauded their handy work...

A music video aired to hype Turning Point one last time...

What did you think of the show? I was disappointed. Let me know what you thought by sending an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
