10/9 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Bound for Glory go home show, Samoa Joe and Sting sign their contract, number one contender's match for the X-Division Championship
By Rich Twilling Oct 9, 2008 - 10:01 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL

[Q1] Jeremy Borash interviewed Jeff Jarrett in his office. Jarrett said he better be ready for Kurt Angle because he has not been in the ring in two years. He said it is personal now and he would leave everything in the ring in Chicago. He then grabbed Angle's gold medal and said he had big plans for it tonight...

A video aired focusing on the big players going into Bound for Glory. The show is entitled, "Three Days to Glory." The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show; they plugged the top two bouts at Bound for Glory...

Twill's Two Cents: Wait a minute; there are more than two matches at the pay-per-view.

Christian Cage came out to the ring. He said everyone is telling him to pick a side. He called himself the champ and said he would pick a side when he damn well pleased. He then said he did not need to pick a side. Booker T and Sharmell came out to the ring with their briefcase.

Booker told Christian he did not want trouble and was there to reason with him. He told Cage that Cage came to TNA and took AJ Styles to never before seen heights. Styles came out and told Cage he used to be the master manipulator but Booker was pulling his puppet strings. Styles turned his attention to Booker.

Styles asked Booker what respect meant "in his country." He was tired of Booker using his "stupid accent." All three men began to argue before Jim Cornette hit the scene. Cornette made Booker vs. Styles with Cage as the special guest referee for later in the show...

Twill's Two Cents: Styles was very good here on the stick. Booker's accent(s) are ridiculous and Cage is still intriguing here.

JB interviewed Sting backstage. Sting said it was not just about the TNA Title. He was standing up for himself, his legacy, and everyone who has ever been disrespected. JB asked what would happen if he lost. Sting said that was not an option...

Twill's Two Cents: It should be about the title. It should always be about the title.

A camera shot was shown of the Sears Centre in Chicago, the site of Bound for Glory... [C]

[Q2] 1. Cute Kip (with Velvet Sky and Angelina Love) defeated Rhino in a no disqualification match in 4:28. Rhino attacked Kip on the floor to begin the match. TBP interfered when they could. Kip tried to give Rhino the paper bag treatment but Rhino countered and hit a series of moves. Rhino set up a table in the corner. He missed a gore. Angelina grabbed Rhino's foot and Velvet sprayed perfume in his face. Kip hit a gore through the table for the win...

After the match, they continued to attack Rhino. ODB and Rhaka Khan came down with chairs to clear the ring of the heel trio... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Well, if they are going to give us filler, filler with Velvet Sky is okay by me.

JB approached Kurt Angle backstage. He told Kurt that Jarrett had his gold medal and had big plans for it. Angle said he was going to sit back and let Jarrett make the first move tonight...

2. Consequences Creed defeated Sonjay Dutt (with SoCal Val), Jay Lethal, and Petey Williams to become the number one contender to the X-Division Champion at Bound for Glory in 4:18. Dutt went outside the ring for a good luck kiss from Val and was attacked by Lethal. Creed and Petey exchanged some high flying offense in the ring.

[Q3] Petey reentered the ring with a springboard from the apron into a Codebreaker. He hit a spinning neckbreaker on Creed and then held him for Dutt. Dutt hit Creed in the stomach. Creed scored a nearfall after hitting a swinging cradle suplex on Lethal for a nearfall. Dutt hit a Lionsault for a long two count.

The finish came when Petey tried to hit the Destroyer on everyone but was stopped by someone else. With everyone lying on the canvas, Creed applied a backslide on Dutt for the three count...

Immediately after the match, Lauren interviewed Sheik Abdul Bashir backstage. He said he could not be happier than to face someone who drapes himself in the red, white, and blue. He wondered who was really free and brave before saying he paid Lady America with his life. He spewed out some other crap and said he was going to take out Creed at the pay-per-view... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Very entertaining match. Everyone was a step faster and more crisp than usual. I think Bashir just said he was dead. I don't know; he is a good promo guy but I severely dislike the content.

Karen's Angle featured Mick Foley as the special guest. Foley said he was nervous last week and he truly meant it when he said it was one of the biggest night of his career. Foley said he wanted to make a difference and he did not feel that way in WWE. Foley put over Kurt Angle as the best wrestler of all time and advised Jarrett not to let his emotions get the best of him...

Tenay and West ran down the entire card (for now) for Bound for Glory...

Backstage, Rhino pushed JB out of the interview area. He said at Bound for Glory he was going to set a table up in one corner and another table up in another corner. He was going to play a game of "Gore the whore."... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Wait; are they going to have a threesome? Did TNA purposely put that porn clip on their PPV last month?

[Q4] Steve McMichael cut a promo (oh shit) and in case you have short term memory loss, he said he was going to be the special guest referee for the Monster's Ball match at Bound for Glory about ten times...

3. Matt Morgan and Abyss defeated Beer Money Inc. (with Jacqueline) in a non-title match in 4:46. Abyss stopped next to a fan, ripped some of his hair out, and gave it to her. Team 3D came out and joined the announce team for the match...

Twill's Two Cents: Are you serious? Hair? Abyss is the creepiest babyface ever.

Beer Money worked over the leg of Matt Morgan. Brother Ray actually legitimately put over the other teams in the match. Roode hit a rolling half crab ala Lance Storm. Very nice. Abyss unintentionally distracted the referee and Morgan continued to take punishment. Abyss finally received the tag.

Abyss hit corner splashes on both members of Beer Money. Ray and Devon said they were going to bring back the flaming table at Bound for Glory. Morgan hit a double high crossbody. Abyss hit the Blackhole slam on Storm to score the win for his team...

Twill's Two Cents: Odd match. Morgan selling for an extended period of time did nothing for me and Abyss did not exactly set the world on fire when he received the hot tag. Brother Ray was fantastic on commentary.

Lauren interviewed LAX backstage. Homicide said they only cared about hurting Beer Money and making them bleed. There was a weird edit job so something must have been cut out... [C]

[Q5] A video package aired showcasing the history between Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle, including the addition of Mick Foley as the special enforcer...

Mick Foley came out to the ring. Tenay said Foley's appearance at Bound for Glory was for one night only and that he had no further contractual obligation to TNA. He then said Karen Angle "stepped down" as the host of her talk show to spend more time with her family...

Foley was wearing a brown corduroy sport coat. He said Brother Ray bastardized the black and red flannel. Funny. Foley thanked the crowd again for how they welcomed him last week. He said although the pieces were in place to have a great match, there were no guarantees. He said he would deal with "friends of Kurt's" or "friends of Jeff's" quickly and harshly if he had to. He then introduced the competitors.

Angle came out first wearing a suit. Jarrett came out with a guitar looking like the guy that runs Virgin. Foley gave both men a final chance to say what they had to say. Jarrett told Angle that hiring him was a mistake but he chalked it up to bad judgment. He said Angle asked for all of this and now it was going to happen.

He then gave Angle his gold medal back. Foley asked Angle if he had anything to say. He shook his head. Jarrett began to leave but Angle verbally stopped him. He thanked Jarrett for giving him his gold medal back. He then asked him to apologize to his three daughters for him. He flipped the script and said, "Daddy is not coming home after Bound for Glory." He left the ring and West called him a son of a bitch... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I was happy with the segment when I thought it was over. I actually liked it more after Angle made his comment. Solid, concise segment.

[Q6] Tenay and West ran down the updated Bound for Glory card. The Beautiful People and Cute Kip vs. ODB, Rhaka Khan, and Rhino was added to the show...

A "Cross the Line" promo for Booker T was shown. JB interviewed Booker and Sharmell in his locker room. I am not sure what the hell Booker is doing with his accent. It sounds like he is going for native African. He said something about Christian joining him after the match tonight... [C]

TNA Rough Cuts featured the Knockout Championship match at Bound for Glory with comments from Roxxi and Taylor Wilde...

4. Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed defeated Roxxi and Taylor Wilde in 3:46. Saeed and Kong double teamed Roxxi at the onset of the bout. Taylor tagged in and was quickly double teamed by the heels. Roxxi hit Evan Bourne's double knee move from the top rope on Kong for a two count. Saeed was left alone after Kong tumbled over the top to the floor. Taylor accidentally kicked Roxxi.

Kong pulled Taylor to the outside. Raisha missed a moonsault. Roxxi tried the Voodoo Drop on Raisha but Kong stopped it from behind. She then hit the Implant Buster on Roxxi for the win... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: That was better than I expected it to be. Taylor still does nothing for me and the crowd does not seem to care about her either. Hopefully Kong or even Roxxi leaves the PPV with the title.

[Q7] 5. AJ Styles defeated Booker T (with Sharmell) with Christian Cage as the special guest referee in 9:48. They exchanged chain wrestling holds as well as multiple Irish whip sequences. Styles hit a huge dropkick for a one count as the show went to commercial... [C]

Booker hit standing knees to Styles' head coming back from commercial. Booker threw Styles across the top rope and followed up with a standing reverse leg lariat. Booker scored a two count after a spinebuster. The count cadence was consistent. Booker locked in a modified camel clutch.

Styles stood up. Booker attempted the axe kick but Styles hit the Pele as a counter. Styles scored a two count after a vertical suplex. Styles locked in the armbar but Booker put his foot on the ropes. Booker hit a German Suplex with a bridge, but Styles somehow slid to the side and scored the three count...

[Q8] After the match, Booker thought he had the win but Cage raised Styles' arm in victory. Booker and Christian fought. Styles tried to approach Cage but received a huge closeline. Cornette approached them and made the three way match for the pay-per-view... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: It is nice that three of the top guys in the company finally get a match for the biggest show of the year.

A history package of Samoa Joe vs. Sting aired...

Twill's Two Cents: In case you forgot, Samoa Joe is the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and yes, he is scheduled to appear on tonight's show.

Jim Cornette, standing at a podium in the ring with a red carpet, said it was time to get the main event competitors to the ring. Sting came out first followed by Samoa Joe and his entourage...

Both men asked for another clause to be added to the contract. Cornette revealed that the clause was that there would not be a rematch between Joe and Sting after Sunday's match. Sting signed the contract and Samoa Joe did the same...

Sting told Joe "it is what it is" and he would see him at Bound for Glory. Joe advised Sting to do what he needed to do and he was going to do the same. Joe said the reason he did not have his hands around Sting's neck and why he was not stomping him into the mat was because Kevin Nash taught him to be professional.

Joe extended his hand to Sting and Sting shook it. Joe then surprised Sting with a headbutt. Sting then attacked Joe and security quickly hit the ring to prevent a pull apart brawl. They went after each other a few times and both men had nasty looks on their faces...

A music video played to the Bound for Glory match graphics...

Twill's Two Cents: This segment worked for me. I liked that there was no physical interaction in the Angle and Jarrett segment, but I love how this worked. It made sense for Joe to attack Sting and for Sting to retaliate. Good segment.

Did you enjoy the show? Are you ordering the PPV? I enjoyed much of this show but I did not like how a lot of the card for the biggest pay-per-view of all time in the company was thrown together so quickly. Let me know your thoughts by shooting an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
