3/20 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Wade Barrett vs. R-Truth, Alicia Fox and Aksana vs. Layla and Natalya, and The Prime Time Players vs. The Uso Brothers
Mar 20, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on ION Network
Taped 3/19/13 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

[Q1] Michael Cole and The Miz welcomed us to the show…

1. Wade Barrett vs. R-Truth in a non-title match. Truth got in a an early flurry of offense and he clotheslined Barrett to the floor. Truth remained in control until he tried following Barrett to the floor and Barrett swept his legs out from under him; sending Truth crashing into the apron.

Barrett took control and began working over Truth with a series of shots to the gut. Barrett got in a few knee strikes and a big boot that sent Truth to the floor. Truth sold on the outside while the show went to its first commercial… [C]

Back from the break, Truth kicked out of a pin attempt. Truth quickly launched into his comeback, but Barrett cut him off with a big boot for another near fall. Barrett set up for Wasteland but Truth countered with a side-Russian legsweep. Barrett quickly answered with a Bullhammer and Truth was down for the count…

Wade Barrett defeated R-Truth in 9:19.

[Q2] After the match, Barrett grabbed a mic and said that is what you call a barrage. Barrett said that was real, it was bloodthirsty trench warfare. He said eventually everyone will succumb to the Bullhammer and he began to brag about his victory from Monday night. Barrett got in The Miz' face. The Miz attacked, and Barrett ran for the hills...

Ryan's Reaction: Simple enough match that did more to highlight Barrett than it did anything else. I really wish they would find something else for Barrett to talk about other than the Barrett Barrage. It's not really gaining him any extra heat and it sounds so forced that it's hard to care about what he says after he brings the idea up.

A video package recapping the contract signing between Brock Lesnar and Triple H on Raw aired…

Michale Cole and The Miz recapped Big Show helping to chase off the Shield and offering to replace Ryback's spot at WrestleMania…

Backstage, Matt Striker asked Sheamus if he and Randy Orton considered adding Big Show to their team. Sheamus weighed the pros and cons but he eventually said he's consider it when sheep fly out of his arse…

Alisha Fox and Aksana made their entrances…

[Q3] [C] Michael Cole narrated a recap of WWE's participation with Nothing But Nets…

Alicia Fox cup a quick promo about how she and Natalya just got back from Rwanda and she said she got more from the trip because Natalya spent the entire time talking about The Great Khali…

2. Alisha Fox and Aksana vs. Layla and worked her over until she tagged in Layla. Aksana quickly got the better of Layla and the heels took over the match.

Natalya got the hot tag and hit a discus clothesline on Fox. Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter and Fox was forced to tap…

Layla and Natalya defeated Alicia Fox and Aksana in 3:55.

Ryan's Reaction: Really, WWE? I'm all for giving women's matches an actual reason for existing, but keep the charity work out of storylines. The match itself was alright, but they were forced to pack the usual tag team formula into a four-minute match and it felt rather rushed.

[C] The Raw Rebound focused on Cm Punk's and The Undertaker's feud; specifically Punk's backstage promo with the urn in hand…

[Q4] Michael Cole and The Miz discussed CM Punk's actions…

3. The Prime Time Players vs. The Usos. Young and Jimmy Uso started the match and the Usos quickly gained the upper hand. The Usos worked several tags in the opening minutes and kept Young on their side of the ring.

O'Neill ran into the ring and almost ate dual superkicks from The Usos. O'Neill stared down The Usos as the show went to commercial… [C]

Back from the break, O'Neill was on the defense. He managed to hit an arm drag into the turnbuckle and the Primetime Players took control. O'Neill worked over Jimmy Uso with a series of power moves. Jimmy eventually hit a back body drop and got the hot tag to his brother.

Jey stormed the ring and hit Young with a full-nelson bomb followed by a wrecking ball in the corner for a near fall. Moments later, Jey hit Young with a Samoan drop and Jimmy followed with a Superfly Splash for the 1-2-3.

The Usos defeated The Primetime Players in 11:59.

Ryan's Reaction: That was a fun tag match. We've seen these teams work together before, but they were given a bit more time to shine and it really paid off. Overall, this was an enjoyable show. Somewhat lighter on action than normal, but that's to be expected with WrestleMania looming. Thanks for following along with me this evening.
