10/2 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Mick Foley makes his first live appearance, Jeff Jarrett confronts Kurt Angle; A.J. Styles, Jay Lethal, and Christian Cage vs. Team 3D and Booker T
Oct 2, 2008 - 10:01 PM |
TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] Footage aired of Jeff Jarrett accepting Kurt Angle's challenge followed by Sting and Joe hurling comments at each other. Christian's impending decision was a strong focus and TNA officially welcomes Mick Foley tonight...
The opening video aired, Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show, and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. The announcers plugged Foley's live debut tonight...
1. Angelina Love (with Velvet Sky and Cute Kip) defeated ODB in 3:31. Velvet's shirt this week says, "I'm the hot friend." Yes you are baby. Tenay announced that Taylor Wilde would defend the Knockout Title against Roxxi and Awesome Kong at Bound for Glory.
Roxxi was distracted by Sky and Kip, allowing Love to gain the advantage. ODB took over and hit a fallaway slam. Sky took a swig of ODB's alcohol and spat it in the face of ODB, allowing Angelina to hit her finisher for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Solid match but there is not much more to say about it. We could talk all day about Velvet's "skirt."
Backstage, Jeremy Borash questioned Jeff Jarrett about Kurt Angle's comments in the UK Sun. Jarrett said there would be repercussions and he was going to the ring to address Angle... [C]
Backstage, Traci Brooks granted ODB a tag team match tonight with The Beautiful People. She told her to find a partner but she could not choose Wilde, Roxxi, or Kong...
A video package aired with older and current footage of both Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle...
[Q2] Jeff Jarrett still has sweet theme music. He also still has that guitar and he came out with it as well as the UK Sun newspaper...
Jarrett said no one gave him a shot to defeat Angle because he had not been in the ring in two years. Jarrett basically called himself a career underdog but he said the naysayers do not know Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett said Angle aired some dirty laundry and Jarrett can play that game too.
He read excerpts from the newspaper. Angle said he was going to weigh his options after his TNA contract ran out. He went on to say that Vince McMahon was the best promoter in the world and that they had a father-son relationship.
Jarrett aired an interview with Angle from two years ago where Angle launched a profanity laced tirade against Vince McMahon. Jarrett said he just broke the bond between Angle and Vince. He said after Bound for Glory, not even "Papa Vince" would want to take him back... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: This promo would have never taken place twenty years ago, but it is a different time now. Angle is so full of shit most of the time that it is difficult to take him seriously when he speaks. He needs to stay put in TNA. Jarrett was fantastic here and I am glad they let him speak without interruption from Angle.
Kurt Angle just arrived at the building and was approached by Jeremy Borash. JB told Kurt that Jarrett aired the interview Angle did two years ago. He then told Angle that Jim Cornette wanted to see him right away. Angle was pissed because he just arrived...
2. LAX defeated The Motor City Machine Guns in 5:40. Homicide and Shelley began the match. Hernandez tagged in and LAX hit a double team maneuver. West said losing Hector Guerrero could end up being a positive thing for LAX.
[Q3] Hernandez hit a double suplex on both members of the MCMG. With Homicide on the floor, Sabin hit a suicide dive. Shelley scored a nearfall on Homicide after a double dropkick. Hernandez came and displayed amazing power. Hernandez set up the Border Toss but Sabin hit him with a flying crescent kick. Sabin springboarded at Hernandez, who caught him and hit a sit down powerbomb for the win...
After the match, Shelley pretended to show respect to LAX, but flipped them off when their backs were turned. Tenay said that is what Sting was talking about with the young guys being disrespectful... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: I would rather see these two teams in a match at the PPV than having LAX join the Monster's Ball match.
TNA Rough Cuts once against featured Roxxi. Footage was shown of her being shaved bald and bleeding. They also showed her getting stitches in her skull. She is tough...
The announcers ran down the card of the Bound for Glory pay-per-view...
Jim Cornette told Kurt Angle that Jarrett told him he was fined $25,000 for his comments... [C]
Footage aired of the Suicide character from the Impact video game...
[Q4] 3. Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Eric Young and Jimmy Rave (with Lance Rock and Christy Hemme) in a triple threat match to retain the X Division Championship in 2:44. Young scored a two count after a closeline cost Rave to land on his head. Young tried a top rope moonsault on Bashir but missed. He hit the kneeling DDT. He told referee Shane Sewell to count to three and he did...
After the match, Bashir forced Sewell to raise his hand. He pretended like he was going to punch him and Sewell was game, but Bashir smiled and walked away...
Twill's Two Cents: That was filler. It is sad what the X Division Title has become.
JB interviewed Christian Cage, Jay Lethal, and A.J. Styles backstage. Cage said Lethal deserved the spotlight and Lethal cut a promo thanking his partners for letting him run with the big dogs. After he walked off, Styles asked Cage if they were cool. Cage replied, "I'm the champ; I'm always cool."... [C]
4. Team 3D and Booker T (with Sharmell) defeated Christian Cage, Jay Lethal, and A.J. Styles in 11:26. Sharmell had the briefcase and the announcers wondered what was inside. Maybe it is the Gobbedly Gooker. Christian's music now cuts out that cool part at the beginning.
[Q5] Booker and Lethal began the match. The show then went to yet another commercial... [C]
Coming back from commercial, Styles and Booker were in the ring. Lethal tagged in and hit a top rope double axe handle. Booker gained the advantage after Team 3D crotched Lethal into the ring post. Devon slowed things down by applying a chinlock to Lethal.
Cage made the hot tag and was quickly met with a boot from Ray. He then dodged moves from both members of 3D. Ray backdropped everyone on the face team impressively. Cage hit a high crossbody on Ray for the two count. Cage had a pin attempt on Booker and at the same time, Styles flew at Ray. Ray sidestepped the move and Styles hit cage on accident, allowing Booker to score the pin...
After the match, Cage and Styles were having a discussion as the show went to commercial... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Lethal took a little too much punishment which caused the match to have too much down time. I am tired of the predictable "Did you really hit me on purpose?" storyline. I hope Cage turns but I just do not like the predictability.
[Q6] Backstage, Kurt Angle went into Jeff Jarrett's office but could not find him...
Tenay moderated a "point-counterpoint" segment with Sting and Samoa Joe. Sting put over the big names of the past. Joe said Sting was preaching but Joe was the one who backed things up by working every night. Joe said he did things differently. Sting said he was going to walk the aisle at Bound for Glory. Joe said Sting was lucky he did not have his hands around his throat right now...
Lauren interviewed Abyss and Matt Morgan. Abyss said he was not going to use weapons. Morgan said he would handle the weapons and Abyss should handle the weapons. Morgan said size matters. Abyss asked if he would be a top guy. Morgan said, "Top of the world!"... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: The Sting and Joe segment was weak. Morgan is a douche and Abyss should realize he is a former TNA world champion, so he is already a top guy.
Beer Money Incorporated came out to the ring. Storm wore a belt that held beer bottles. My brother needs one of those. Roode stole his hat from Armando Estrada. Roode said they were doing well but others were not. He said Salinas has not been seen or heard from since she had a talk with Jacqueline. He said Hector was back in the announce booth where he belongs.
[Q7] Roode made an open challenge to any tag team from any wrestling company in the world. Powell and I are game. Team 3D, Morgan and Abyss, and LAX came out. They all tried to speak but were interrupted by the others. Cornette came out and cancelled the current Monster's Ball match and made a new Monster's Ball match for the tag team championship...
Twill's Two Cents: TNA has way too many entrance ramps.
The Beautiful People made their way through the backstage area...
Twill's Two Cents: Velvet twice in one night? Thank you TNA for realizing I was having a shitty day.
A TNA Knockouts video aired...
The Beautiful People made their ring entrance. ODB made her entrance and stopped at the stage to introduce her partner. ODB told TBP to look behind them and Rhaka Khan came out to be ODB's partner... [C]
5. ODB and Rhaka Khan defeated The Beautiful People (with Cute Kip) in 4:45. ODB tagged in Khan and TBP cried to Kip on the outside. She pulled them into the ring. Rhaka licked herself. Kip went face to face with Rhaka and Velvet tried to attack her but was unsuccessful. They were able to successfully double team ODB.
Sky and Love continued to work over ODB as Sky continued to have a sexy ass that was pretty much showing. I'm cool with that; it pays our bills. ODB made the hot tag to Rhaka, who came in and overpowered TBP with her athleticism. She hit Melina's finishing move (reverse rocker dropper) for the win...
After the match, Kip and TBP attacked the victorious face team. Rhino made the save...
Twill's Two Cents: I think Rhaka Khan is money and I am glad to see her as somewhat of a focus in the Knockout Division.
Tenay told everyone that Foley was debuting after the break... [C]
[Q8] Mick Foley came out to the ring and Tenay put him over as if he was the Pope. Mick was wearing black pants, a black shirt, and a motorcycle black vest. He looked genuinely moved by the reaction he received. When he began to speak, he said it was an honor to stand in the same ring that Cute Kip just stood in a few short minutes ago.
Foley thanked the fans in attendance and the fans at home, including those who just tuned in after the Vice Presidential debate. Foley thanked Jarrett for bringing him in and for referring to him as the greatest acquisition in TNA history. He then thanked Vince McMahon. He thanked Vince for all of the opportunities he gave him as well as making the decision to leave WWE an easy one.
Kurt Angle's music hit and he came to the ring. Foley finished his line to Vince. "Thanks, but no thanks, for that bridge to nowhere." Angle was pissed at Jarrett and said he was full of shit. The fans were full of it too for buying into it.
Angle looked into the camera and said Jarrett was correct in saying Angle lost his title, his gold medal, and his wife. He said Jarrett lost his wife too. That was bullshit. Angle asked Foley what he has ever done. Foley turned up the intensity and got pissed at Angle for belittling the accomplishments of Joe and Styles.
Foley said he did not like it when Vince screamed in his earpiece. Foley put over Edge, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and Triple H. He then said Angle defeated all of them. He called Angle the best acquisition in TNA history and perhaps the best performer ever. He needed to see things up close and personal.
Angle asked if Foley was there to take over for Don West because he was replaceable. Foley said he was not there to take over for West. West said, "Whew" and wiped his brow. Foley said he needed to be closer to the action. Angle asked if Foley was going to be in his corner. Foley said no and the powers that be appointed him the special enforcer in his match vs. Jeff Jarrett. Angle was pissed and Foley triumphant as the show went off the air...
Twill's Two Cents: Good segment. Foley looks rejuvenated but I hope he did not burn his WWE bridge.
