9/11 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Will Jeff Jarrett return? Final push to No Surrender, Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde in a beauty pageant
Sep 11, 2008 - 10:01 PM |
TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] Footage aired setting up the return of Jeff Jarrett. The show is entitled, "Double trouble for Sting?"...
JB approached Sting as he arrived to the show. Sting said he was interested in two words: Jeff Jarrett, before walking away...
The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show and ran down tonight's card...
Samoa Joe came down to the ring. Joe yelled for Sting and admitted he was not as focused as he should be. Kevin Nash came out to the stage. Joe told Nash that after he finishes Sting, Nash is next. Nash called himself a father with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other telling his kids not to drink and smoke. He said while Joe is looking for Sting, three others are looking at Joe's championship.
Nash said Joe was not ready and he set something up for him tonight to prove that. He has three opponents for Joe and if Joe gets through them, he will be ready. Joe agreed to Nash's challenge. He said after he is through with them, Sting is next...
Lauren interviewed The Beautiful People backstage. Lauren called the pageant bogus. Angelina said beauty is everything. Beauty is more important than family, friends, or even money. They walked away and Lauren said the Abyss open challenge was next. Christian Cage walked by... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: I am still waiting for a Nash heel turn although I like his current dynamic with Joe, as the tested and experienced veteran. Solid opening to the show.
1. Christian Cage defeated Abyss by disqualification in 4:24. Glad to see they followed through with the Cage tease. This is much better than Abyss vs. some random douche. Abyss utilized his power and strength to gain and keep the advantage early on.
[Q2] West said facing Abyss is like facing three opponents. Well, unless Abyss has six balls, I would not make that comparison. Christian bounced around before hitting a second rope back elbow for a two count. He then took out the leg of Abyss and hit a frogsplash. Abyss caught Cage and after some back and forth, Abyss hit a chokeslam for a two count. Cage hit the Unprettier but Kurt Angle broke up the pinfall...
Booker T joined Angle in attacking Cage. They held Cage for Abyss to use the chair, but Abyss dropped the chair and attacked Booker and Angle. They outnumbered Abyss but before they could use the chair, Matt Morgan ran them off. Tenay called Morgan Abyss' partner. Morgan grabbed the mic and reiterated that point. He made a tag match challenge to Booker and Angle for tonight. They accepted... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: The action with Cage and Abyss was solid as expected. I like how they are working Angle and Booker into programs with different guys.
JB was the emcee for the beauty pageant. He introduced the judges; the Prince Justice Brotherhood, complete with new music. Love, Sky, and James came out first. Angelina was wearing a lovely black and white dress. Velvet was stunning as well. The not so interesting Taylor Wilde came out next in a white dress. Sorry, I am no fashion guru, so "white dress" is a great way to describe it.
Tenay and West are calling this thing seriously. Ugh. Angelina took a lap around the ring and did the pageant wave. Taylor shyly walked around and saluted both the fans and her opponent. The judges had little cards with their names on them and cards with the names of both women. Curry voted for Love. Shark Boy voted for Wilde. Super Erich voted for Wilde, which gave her the win in the evening gown portion of the contest...
Twill's Two Cents: We have to see two more segments like this tonight? Fantastic.
[Q3] A promotional video of A.J. Styles aired...
Lauren interviewed Sonjay Dutt and reminded us that Val is up for grabs in a match. Yes, you read that correctly. Sonjay said he would win by any means necessary. He said this Sunday was No Surrender and he would have no mercy... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Way to mention the name of the WWE PPV Sonjay. This is ridiculous. I guess Val, and not Layla, is the biggest whore in wrestling today.
Karen's Angle aired and her guest tonight is Sting. Sting said he demands respect for the business, not just for the veterans. Sting said he almost retired, but he is not willing to leave the business like it is. He said no one should treat a legend like Styles treated Angle and Joe treated Booker. He said he would never treat Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan like that.
Sting said it could be tough love but before he leaves, he will teach respect to the young guys. Karen asked about Jeff Jarrett. Sting said he was curious to see where Jarrett stood on this issue...
Twill's Two Cents: It is nice to see this segment end without someone being accosted. Sting has never been more interesting with his promos.
The announcers ran down the entire No Surrender card. A.J. Styles came down to the ring. West said, "He has a microphone in his hand!"...
Twill's Two Cents: Lucky us.
Styles said Frank Trigg should be in the ring get his ass kicked by Styles... [C]
[Q4] Frank Angle errr Trigg came down to the ring and go face to face with Styles. Trigg said he did not understand half of what Styles said because he did not have his hick meter on. Trigg "praised" Styles' amateur credentials. Trigg told Styles they would face at No Surrender in a MMA match with three five minute rounds. They shook hands. Trigg called Styles a bitch. Styles slapped Trigg. Trigg took Styles down with ease before security broke it up...
Lauren interviewed Cage backstage and he directed his anger at Angle and Booker. He said he was not the fastest, the strongest, or the biggest, but it would take a lot for him not to leave his backyard, Toronto, without the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Cage said he grew up one hour away from where this PPV was taking place. He said he used his student loan money to pay for wrestling school. He said it would only take three seconds for him to win the championship. If you don't know, now you know... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Great promo by the solid veteran. Also, kids are dropping out of college all over the United States and Canada.
JB hosted another dreadful beauty pageant segment. He called it an annual thing. He said he personally checked to see if the bikinis were "regulation."...
Twill's Two Cents: We have to see this crap every year?
I believe Taylor was wearing her ring top. She looked average at best. When Love began to strut, Tenay said, "The only thing missing is a stripper pole." As Stewie Griffin would say, "Tenay made a funny." Love left the ring and did a personal dance for Curry Man and Shark Boy. She looked hot. West said, "J-Lo is jealous of that butt."
Twill's Two Cents: Do Tenay and West have pop culture flashcards or what?
Super Eric voted for Taylor. The two guys with working eyes voted for Angelina, giving her the win in this portion of the contest...
A promotional video aired featuring Awesome Kong's domination but portrayed ODB as the person that could stop her. "ODB is the only woman man enough to stop Kong."...
[Q5] 2. Awesome Kong (with Raisha Saeed) defeated Roxxi in 8:39. Roxxi came out with a shopping cart full of weapons. Kong beat the shit out of Roxxi on the floor. Roxxi took the advantage by using the steel steps to her advantage... [C]
Odd commercial placement given that most people do not last this long with Kong. Kong looked like a Samurai warrior spinning a kendo stick. Roxxi scored a nearfall after hitting Kong with a garbage can lid. She hit a drop toehold on the wrong side of the chair. Kong slammed Roxxi onto a chair. She then missed a splash from the ropes onto the chair.
Kong threw a chair at Roxxi and she took a nasty cut, comparable to the one Kurt Angle took from the ladder a few weeks back. Kong hit the Awesome Bomb for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Very good match given what we actually were able to see. That was a nasty cut on Roxxi's upper forehead.
Kong wanted to finish Roxxi off but ODB hit the scene. Kong grabbed the referee, Slick Johnson, and ODB ran her off. She then hit Johnson with a chair as he tried to leave the ring...
Samoa Joe was shown walking through the backstage area... [C]
JB handled the introductions for Kevin Nash's challenge. Nash watched from ringside. Johnny Devine stood in the ring and JB introduced Samoa Joe...
[Q6] 3. Samoa Joe defeated Johnny Devine in a non-title match in :14. Joe hit the Musclebuster for the win...
4. Samoa Joe defeated Lance Rock (with Jimmy Rave and Christy Hemme) in a non-title match in :50. Rock attacked Joe at the bell. Joe won the match with the rear naked choke...
5. Samoa Joe defeated Tomko in a non-title match in 3:22. Tomko hit a huge closeline and began to wear Joe down. Joe hit a crescent kick to change his fortunes. Joe scored nearfalls with a senton back splash and snap powerslam. Tomko surprisingly nearly won the match with a two handed chokeslam.
Tomko taunted Nash and went for a powerbomb. Joe countered and hit the Musclebuster for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Welcome back Tomko.
Nash entered the ring and did the nWo point at Joe. Nash said he was proven wrong and that Joe was more than ready. He felt bad for the sons of bitches in Toronto. Nash said he taught Joe all he knows and that Joe is on his own now. They shook hands and hugged before Nash took off...
Twill's Two Cents: That was anticlimactic. I thought Joe wanted to kick Nash's ass.
JB hosted the finals of the beauty pageant. This was the talent competition. The Beautiful People said their talent would be an "oral presentation." Velvet told a "knock knock" joke. "Orange you glad you aren't Taylor Wilde." Angelina was up with a poem. "There once was a girl named Taylor, who went to school named Baylor, she earned first rank, in the class of skank, because the whole football team nailed her. Velvet and Angelina then sang "Row Your Boat."
[Q7] Taylor played the drums and apparently, the drums are one of seven instruments that she plays. She sounded okay I guess. Tenay liked it. Curry Man voted for Angelina. Shark Boy voted for Taylor. Super Eric voted for the winner, Taylor Wilde. They gave her some high school royalty apparel. Love and Sky were shocked and pissed. Wilde slapped Kip James, which prompted Love and Sky to attack her. Rhino hit the scene and ran off the heels...
Twill's Two Cents: I never thought anything involving Velvet Sky could be that horrid.
A music video promoting the main event in No Surrender aired...
Booker T and Sharmell made their ring entrance. Kurt Angle came out next. Matt Morgan was first out for the face team with Abyss bringing up the rear...
6. Kurt Angle and Booker T defeated Abyss and Matt Morgan in 8:59. Morgan used his impressive power to gain the offensive advantage on Angle. Abyss tagged in and hit multiple left and right forearms on Angle in the corner. Angle put a thumb in Abyss' eye but could not avoid a big boot by Abyss. All four men fought in the ring as the show went to commercial... [C]
[Q8] Back from commercial, Angle and Morgan remained in the ring. Booker tagged in and was very aggressive. Morgan took the babyface beatdown. Abyss received a hot tag and hit multiple moves on both Booker and Angle. Booker tried the axe kick but Abyss countered it into a Blackhole Slam. For some reason, Earl Hebner thought it was more important to break up the fight outside of the ring.
Abyss tried to pull Angle into the ring, but Team 3D interfered. Ray held Abyss so Devon could nail him with a chairshot. Angle was able to cover Abyss for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Serviceable but forgettable action.
Sting was shown walking backstage... [C]
Sting came out to the ring. Sting reverted back to his horrible promos by spelling out Jarrett's name and telling him to "come out come out, wherever you are." He called out Samoa Joe as well. Joe was up in the rafters. Joe invited Sting to appear at No Surrender but Joe would not be coming alone.
Jarrett's music hit and the stage was elevated in the air. Jarrett posed for the crowd and the show abruptly went to a music video promoting the PPV...
Twill's Two Cents: That was it? That sucked. Great to see Jarrett back though but they treated that like it was anything but special and it should have been a much bigger deal. Do you think WWE would ever bring back The Undertaker like that?
