TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] Jeremy Borash sat in Booker T’s locker room. Booker, with Sharmell at his side, said he would invite Samoa Joe to tour the six sides of steel to show him the brutality. He said he would also invite a close personal friend. JB wondered if it was Sting he was talking about. Booker and Sharmell drank champagne and laughed in an evil tone as JB hit the bricks…
In lieu of the traditional opening video, they played the Impact music to highlights of the new TNA video game. Cool opening. Mike Tenay and Don West promoted tonight’s show…
1. Beer Money (with Jacqueline) defeated Christian Cage and Rhino to become the number one contenders for the TNA World Tag Team Championships in 10:50. Cage scored the first nearfall at :55 after some nice double teaming between him and Rhino. After some back and forth offense, Cage hit a top rope Diamond Cutter on Storm for a two count.
Storm spat beer in Christian’s face as he tried to enter the ring from the apron. Roode speared Christian into the fan barricade. Christian tried to recover as the show went to commercial… [C]
Beer Money hit a double team vertical suplex on Cage for a nearfall coming back from commercial. Rhino received the hot tag and took out both members of Beer Money. He nearly won the match after hitting a spinebuster on Storm. Christian Cage went to the top rope but he jumped at an interfering Brother Ray.
[Q2] Rhino gored James Storm. He scored a two count but Earl Hebner was pulled out the ring. Team Devon hit the ring and all chaos broke loose. Team 3D hit the 3D on Rhino in the ring and Storm was able to cover Rhino for the win…
After the match, Christian challenged Team 3D to a New Jersey street fight at the PPV. He said Team 3D screwed him and Rhino for the last time. At the PPV, they would find out who would end who… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: When the referee is pulled out of the ring, how come that is not a disqualification? Minus that point, the match was good, but I hate logic holes such as that.
Backstage, Lauren interviewed Christy Hemme, Lance Rock, and Jimmy Rave. Hemme said they were living the gimmick of rock and roll and she meant it. They acted like they were stoned as they promoted their match tonight against the super heroes…
2. Black Machismo (with SoCal Val), Curry Man, and Shark Boy defeated Johnny Devine and the Rock ‘N Rave Infection (with Christy Hemme) in 3:53. Val is back with Jay Lethal without an explanation. All six men went at it and the referee rang the bell to start the match.
The heels isolated and worked on Curry Man, utilizing multiple tags. Don West mentioned the SoCal Val situation and called her “squirrely.” Lethal tagged in and looked impressive. Rock went for a double chokeslam on Shark Boy and Curry Man but they knocked him from the ring. Machismo hit the Lethal Combination for the win…
[Q3] Lethal took the mic after the match and invited Val into the ring. Lethal was about to propose again. West told him to think about it. Lethal noticed Val was not wearing her ring. She said she lost it. Jay started to speak in his normal voice. He said Val never wanted to marry her and took off…
Twill’s Two Cents: How funny is West? Imagine him at a bachelor party. He would be the guy that would try to convince the groom to sleep with the stripper. The Val and Jay Lethal storyline, along with Sonjay Dutt, continues to be a strong midcard feud.
Backstage, JB interviewed Lance Smith from Country Music Television. I have no idea who this guy is. Super Eric entered the picture and talked about finding the ring in order to save love… [C]
JB interviewed Samoa Joe and told him about the personal tour. Joe said he wanted it to be a party of three, with him, Booker, and Sting. He said if the three of them are locked in the cage, only Joe would walk out…
Twill’s Two Cents: Does he really need a tour? What would it last, about four seconds?
They aired a historical video package with Joe, Booker, and Sting’s involvement. JB and Kevin Nash approached Joe backstage. Joe went off and said he knew it was Sting that laid him out last week. Nash said he had Joe’s back and they needed to come up with a battle plan. Joe agreed… [C]
[Q4] Booker T came to the ring, which was surrounded by a steel cage with numerous weapons hanging from the sides. He called out Joe and promised him the lights would not go out. Joe Goldberg came out with a bunch of TNA security guys. He told Booker he was sadly mistaken.
Joe said if he entered the cage, he would beat the hell out of Booker’s ass. He entered the cage as the fans chanted, “Joe’s gonna kill you.” Booker said Joe came without backup. Joe pulled out a cattle prod. Nash came out and guarded the door, allowing Joe to attack Booker.
Sharmell came out to ringside and distracted everyone. Nash carried her out of the ringside area as Joe looked on. A bat on a rope fell down into the ring. Booker grabbed the bat and laid out Samoa Joe. Tenay cursed at Sting although there was no sign of him…
Twill’s Two Cents: I could do without Sting’s involvement but I thought the segment was very strong.
Sheik Abdul Bashir was featured in a pretaped promo. I do not love political messages in wrestling promos, but I found this video to be a drastic improvement over last week’s. TNA is doing a nice job bringing him along and introducing him to the fans. He will have heat when he gets back in the ring…
A.J. Styles entered the ring and grabbed a microphone, preparing to give a promo… [C]
Styles yelled for Sting. He said he has been sticking up for Sting for three weeks. He asked how Sting’s bat continued to be responsible for knocking out Samoa Joe. He called Sting a coward. The lights went off, Sting’s music hit, and Kurt Angle was in the ring. He hit three Olympic Slams and talked trash in between each one, asking Styles if he wanted to sleep with his wife again…
[Q5] JB was in the locker room of The Beautiful People. Shark Boy and Curry Man questioned Sky and Love about the whereabouts of Val’s ring. Curry Man asked if he could get some action. Love got rid of the heroes and asked Velvet if she was ready. She said she was and they wondered if “she” was ready. JB wondered who “she” was. Love said we would find out… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Say what you want about Shark Boy, but at least he sounds exactly like Steve Austin.
Lauren interviewed Petey Williams and Rhaka Khan. Petey gave a solid promo about the multiple challengers he has turned away. He even did a good Arnold Schwarzenegger impression…
3. Consequences Creed defeated Petey Williams (with Rhaka Khan) in a non-title match in 5:17. Hermie Sadler joined Tenay and West at the broadcast booth. Creed scored a nearfall at the one minute mark after three jabs and a right hook. He followed that up with an impressive top rope springboard bulldog.
Petey hit a hurricarana from the ring with Creed standing on the floor. Back in the ring, Petey remained on the offensive with a series of moves. Creed turned it around after a huge kick to Petey’s face. After a distraction by Khan, Petey went for the Destroyer, but Creed dropped to his knees and scored the pinfall…
Twill’s Two Cents: Good match. I like Creed and would not mind seeing these two go for fifteen minutes.
[Q6] Backstage, Salinas was yelling at Shark Boy because LAX was next on the list of suspects of those who could have taken the ring. Super Eric pulled his boys off the scene because he said there was a break in the case elsewhere… [C]
Lauren interviewed A.J. Styles backstage. She asked if Styles if he thought Sting was involved in Angle’s attack. Styles said either he was or it was magic. He said he wanted a Last Man Standing match with Angle at Hard Justice…
Twill’s Two Cents: Magic? Other people can turn off the lights and purchase black baseball bats.
Jim Cornette joined the announce team. They ran down the Hard Justice card, which now includes an X Division Championship match between Consequences Creed and Petey Williams…
Part two of Karen’s Angle with Kaz aired. She pointed out that the grass was not greener on the other side (in WWE) in 2006. Kaz said when he came back, he was going to grab the brass ring. He put over the joy of beating Christian Cage in a ladder match and earning a title shot against Kurt Angle.
He said that effective at the end of the interview, he was no longer a member of the TNA roster. Karen said everyone would miss him. They hugged and Kaz took off. Tenay said the cameras continued to roll. Tomko crashed the show and told Karen he would be there every week to ruin her show. Karen yelled for help and Tomko said the camera did not need to see what he was about to do… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Okay, Kaz’s departure is a work. Tomko said he would ruin Karen’s show every week but his release is legit. By the way, did the cameraman think it was more important to hold his post than help Karen out?
Lauren interviewed Kevin Nash regarding Sting’s actions. He said he has known Sting since 1990 and something pissed him off. Joe staggered into the interview and said he was pissed off. He was going to drag Sting down from the rafters and kick his ass. Nash tried to reason with Joe but he took off…
Twill’s Two Cents: Is Nash being the secret attacker too obvious?
[Q7] 4. Matt Morgan defeated Sal Linado (?) in 1:07. Sal wore tights with one pant leg. Morgan hit the Hellevator for the quick victory…
After the match, Morgan called out Tomko so they could see who the true badass in TNA was. Tomko came out and the two brawled. Security and referees separated the two men. Tomko attacked Morgan from behind. Morgan hit a bicycle kick followed by the Hellevator…
Twill’s Two Cents: Best of luck to you Tomko.
Backstage, the Prince Justice Brotherhood stood by with Jeremy Borash. They said Sonjay stole Val’s ring last week in the hospital… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Wait just a minute. Val has been without her ring for a week and did not know about it? That is about as stupid as it gets.
Backstage, Beer Money, Jacqueline, and Team 3D were interviewed by JB. Brother Ray called Beer Money their new best friends because they were all scumbags. He announced an eight man tag next week with the four of them vs. Christian Cage, Rhino, and LAX…
Taylor Wilde was featured in a Rough Cuts segment, emphasizing her underdog lifestyle. Many of the knockouts were interviewed, including Angelina Love, putting her over. ODB was the most negative of the bunch. Good segment…
[Q8] 5. Gail Kim and Taylor Wilde defeated The Beautiful People in 9:18. Taylor wears the female version of Consequences Creed’s ring gear. Velvet Sky, looking absolutely stunning, attacked Wilde from behind. In a nice irish whip sequence, Love leapfrogged Wilde, who avoided a monkey flip by Love, and snapped off a very nice armdrag.
Samoa Joe walked up to the rafters as the show went to commercial… [C]
Wilde inadvertently distracted the referee as Love and Sky double teamed Gail Kim in their corner. Kim hit a Code Breaker on Love to even things up. Taylor and Velvet received tags at the same time. Taylor hit a Northern Lights Suplex with a bridge that West incorrectly called a T-Bone. She scored a nearfall.
The Beautiful People double teamed Wilde for awhile. Wilde tried a sunset flip pin on Sky. Gail came in and hit a double drop kick. One of them hit Sky and knocked her into a pinfall by Wilde…
The Beautiful People attacked Kim and Wilde after the match. The faces took the advantage until Awesome Kong hit the ring. She was the surprise. She laid out Kim and Wilde. ODB and Roxxi with a chair came out to run off Kong. Traci Brooks came out the stage and looked pleased with what went down…
Twill’s Two Cents: Solid women’s match. I am glad to see Kong back and I hope she lays out people every week.
Joe walked around the top of the building yelling for Sting. The cameraman panned in on a crow perched on the railing…
Twill’s Two Cents: That was a letdown.
Decent show tonight with a disappointing ending. Let me know what you thought by shooting an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
