8/25 Kester's TNA "Impact Wrestling" Live Coverage: the Bound For Glory Series Continues, Kurt Angle answers Crimson's challenge, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair call out Sting, and the hype for No Surrender picks up
Aug 25, 2011 - 08:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped earlier in Orlando, Florida

[Q1] A video recapped Angle's promise of revenge against Dixie Carter and his first strike against the young talent when he attacked Crimson. In the arena, Kurt Angle made his way to the ring.

Once there, Kurt called Crimson out to the ring, and Crimson immediately obliged. Kurt Angle told Crimson that he either had a lot of balls or he was a complete jackass and the piped heat started immediately. Kurt said he made Crimson go from Amazing Red's little brother to a somebody.

Kurt said he was going to make Crimson famous when he ended his undefeated streak and his career later in the evening. Crimson told Kurt he should respect him but Kurt cut him off and told Crimson that he needs to earn his respect. Crimson said he has no problem doing that and he challenged Angle to try and take him out tonight.

Crimson said when the final bell rings and Crimson is still standing, he will gain Angle's respect. At that moment, Immortal's music hit and Gunner, Bully ray, Scott Steiner, Abyss, and the Jarretts slowly made their way to the ring.

Bully ray asked Crimson if he was serious. He put over Kurt Angle in a big way and Angle jumped in. he told Ray to let him handle it himself and he told Immortal that if anyone got involved in his match tonight, there would be trouble. He told Crimson it's time to make him famous.

Backstage, Jackie and ODB talked to velvet about having their back in the ring later tonight. They all agreed to be on good terms when they teamed later in the night.

Someone's boots were shown walking backstage… [C]

Ryan's Rant: The piped heat during that segment was unreal. They don't even try and make it believable. I want to thank Chris Shore for filling in for me last week. The opening segment was good, but I could have really done without Angle recycling Undertaker's American Badass routine with all the "I'll make you famous" talk. Still, that's a personal gripe, and the people involved managed to set up some good hype for the main event. I just have to roll my eyes at the fact that Velvet and ODB can work together considering all the things ODB said to her when they were feuding.

Back from the break, TNA had a ratings brag for their performance in Ireland and the UK.

[Q2] Bischoff and Hogan were backstage talking to Flair about how they were upset with the stipulation Flair laid down with Sting. Hogan said that tonight they would bury the hatchet with Sting and Hogan begged Flair not to say a word, and Flair agreed.

1. ODB, Jackie, and Velvet Sky defeated Rosita, Sarita and Angelina Love in 4:09. Jackie and Sarita started the contest. Jackie instantly went for a roll up but Sarita countered and took control. Rosita and Velvet tagged in for their teams.

Rapid tags followed from both teams. Eventually, the heels isolated velvet and she struggled to make it back to her corner. As usual, all the Knockouts flooded the ring at one point and brawled. Angelina Love took out Velvet with her finisher and offered her to ODB and Jackie. The pair considered their options and double-teamed Love. Velvet crawled on top of her and got the pin.

Post-match, Love shoved Rosita down… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Velvet looked really bad in that match. She couldn't run the ropes and she botched more moves than she landed. Disappointing. This was the standard showing we've seen from Knockout tag matches as of late, but the storyline involving ODB and Jackie has me intrigued. ODB has really dialed back the chest slaps and crotch rubs, which is a more than welcome change.

Back from the break, those boots were still walking backstage. Yes, I am resisting making a terrible reference to a song. Oh, wait.

2. Kid Kash beat Jesse Sorensen in 2:53. Kash pounced on Sorensen before he even had a change to stand up. Kash quickly dragged Jesse to the ropes and choked him while smashing his face.

[Q3] Kash hit a release suplex for a near fall. He worked over Sorensen with kicks and charged, but Sorensen hit a back body drop. Jesse followed up with a series of kicks to keep Kash at bay. Sorensen hit a swinging neckbreaker for a near fall before going to the top for a high cross body.

Sorensen rolled Kash up but Kash countered and grabbed two handfuls of Sorensen's tights. Even though the referee looked right at this occurrence, he still counted the three count.

After the match, Kash talked to Christy Hemme and called Sorensen a prick and told him he'd beat his ass like he beats his son. Sorensen took exception to this and Kash punched him. TNA security came out of nowhere and dragged Sorensen away as Kash jawed at him... [C]

Ryan's Rant: TNA refs look so incompetent sometimes. The match was good right up until the end, and I would love to see more from these two. Hopefully, we get a longer math with their next encounter.

The announcers ran through the BFGS standings and showed us a video package of matches from their last few live shows. Devon is out of the series with an injury.

3. Rob Van Dam beat "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero in 4:57 via submission in a Bound For Glory Series match. The two shook hands to start. RVD held onto a sideheadlock even through a back suplex from the Pope. Pope eventually battled out and floored RVD with an STO.

Moments later, RVD locked in an inverted STF and Pope made the ropes. Pope sold the back pain in the corner and RVD nailed him with a huge Monkey Flip. RVD locked in an Abdominal Stretch as he continued to target Pope's midsection.

[Q4] Pope fought out and hit an arm-wringer flip on RVD. Pope then went up and hit a flying fist drop. He went to the corner and RVD hit a spin kick to regain control. RVD locked in a Surfboard Stretch and eventually got the submission victory.

The Direct Impact of the night was RVD's surfboard stretch on the Pope.

After the match, Samoa Joe attacked the Pope and locked in his new kneebar. Devon hobbled down the ramp and scolded his sons and told them to give him a chair. He took his dear sweet time chasing away Joe, but the damage was already done… [C]

Ryan's Rant: I like RVD working some basic holds into his arsenal. It helps keep his matches fresh. Plus, it's nice not o see any Jerry Lynn silliness like we've had recently. It's nice to see Samoa Joe getting some kind of push, but I wish they would just let him use the rear naked Choke to damage guys rather than some kneebar that looks like a standard rest hold. At least the RNC would get even more over, and it's already been established as Joe's most dangerous submission. Changing that now feels like a step backwards.

Backstage, Robbie E. told Rob terry that they should team up. He talked about terry's terrible year in TNA and Terry said he'd think about it.

Bully Ray and Scott Steiner were backstage discussing their upcoming match.

Rosita and Sarita jawed with Angelina Love and attacked her. Winter showed up, growled, and destroyed them. Winter continued growling and choking Rosita until the rest of Mexican America showed up to break up the brawl.

Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan were walking backstage.

The same boots were shown walking. Lord, TNA's hallways mist be forever long… [C]

Backstage, Bischoff flirted with Traci Brooks and Bischoff talked about going on the road next week. He said he couldn't think of a better place to make a huge announcement. He then asked her if she wanted to have a couple of cocktails later. He put way too much emphasis on the word "cock."

[Q5] Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair made their way to the ring. Hulk Hogan started things off by calling out Sting. Sting immediately obliged. Hogan told Sting he was out of his mind. He told him he'd had enough. He said it ends tonight. Hogan told Sting this was a family show. Lord, is he taking the piss with that one.

Hogan said they were going to be the standard bearer for what a wrestling company should be. He asked Sting to end the madness. Sting did his Joker accent and said, "On one condition." Hogan said he'd do anything. Sting asked for milk and cookies for all. Colorful balloons, rainbows, unicorns, puppy dogs, and flowers for everyone.

Sting then hugged and kissed Hogan. Ric Flair lost his mind and grabbed the mic. He told Sting that this wasn't a game and he did his elbow drop routine, but there was no jacket on the mat. What a shame.

Ric Flair said he had the advantage because when it came time for the kill, Sting would have mercy on him, when Ric Flair said he wouldn’t return the favor. He then called Sting a jackass. Sting mocked Ric for cursing at him. Sting said he was happy to go through Flair to get to Hogan and told him if he pointed his finger at him one more time, he'd bite it off.

Sting challenged Hogan to a match at Bound for Glory. He then said his goodbye and left Hogan and Flair to steam in the ring.

Ryan's Rant: Noooooooooo! That's the last match I want to see happen. Please, please, please don't do this, TNA. You're going to get Hogan killed.

A.J. Styles made his way to the ring. He continues to use the Fortune Four symbol for a group that has five members. Thanks for making me chuckle, Styles. He called Christopher Daniels to the ring, and Daniels immediately obliged.

[Q6] Styles told Daniels he isn't mad or anything. He said he wasn't happy with him putting their business out to the world. He said he wanted to end their beef right here, right now. He asked him why he wanted the rematch.

Daniels said Destination X was about the spirit of competition, and he lost. He said he looked in the mirror in the morning and asked if he even had what it takes to be in TNA. He said he always promised himself he'd just walk away if he couldn't compete at that level. He said he's scared because he can't answer that question. He said he needs the rematch to get an answer.

He said he came back for Styles, and he went through a table for Styles at hardcore Justicce. He said he's asking for this rematch not because he wants it, but because he needs to know the answer. He said he's not good at anything else. He started to get choked up and repeatedly said, "I don't know what to do, man, I don't know what to do."

Styles told him one more time because Daniels is his friend. Daniels gave him a hug and said he'd see him at No Surrender. Styles said no, he'd be in the finals of the BFGS at No Surrender. He told him they'd have their match next week. He then said he had to kick some Immortal butt, and Daniels left the ring.

Beer Money made their entrance… [C]

Ryan's Rant: back-to-back long-winded promos are brutal. The show had a good pace going but the lack of in-ring action for twenty-five minutes into the second hour is not the way to get over how much wrestling matters. Especially when one of those segments involves nothing but wrestlers that are older than fifty. Daniels could not have looked like a bigger wuss if he had tried in that segment. I imagine I am supposed to feel sympathetic for him, but I can't help but think a steadfast, determine to win approach would have been better for a wrestler.

4. Scott Steiner, Gunner, and Bully Ray beat Beer Money and A.J. Styles in 5:52 in a Falls Count Anywhere Bound For Glory Series match Immortal never even made it to the ring. Fortune pounced on them and the big TNA brawl was on. Abyss stepped onto the stage to watch the match.

Gunner and Styles eventually made their way into the ring while the rest brawled at ringside. Styles gained control, Gunner rolled out, and Steiner stepped in the ring and floored Styles with a suplex. Bobby Roode jumped in the ring and worked over Steiner.

They continued to work a pattern of a wrester stepping into the ring, hitting a move, and then a replacement from his opponent's team would come in and take them out. They repeated this pattern ad nauseum.

[Q7] Gunner and Storm battled on one side of the stage as Steiner and Roode battle don the other. They showed a split screen of the two fights with distracting blue flames taking up the rest of the screen

Out of nowhere, Styles hit a cross body on Bully Ray before nailing him with an enziguri. Bully Ray hit the Bully Bomb on Styles out of nowhere and scored the pin.

Post-"match," Steiner pulled a table out from underneath the ring. Anderson drove a Hummer into the arena and jumped into the ring. Gunner tried to attack him but Anderson was incensed. He fought off Gunner and put Steiner through the table. Anderson wrapped his hand in a chain and destroyed Gunner while Bully Ray begged him not to from ringside.

After cracking open Gunner's skull, Anderson posed at ringside holding up Gunner and Steiner's heads as if they were trophy kills from a hunting trip… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Well, that match couldn't have been more of a train wreck. It was impossible to really follow, had no flow, and felt like an absolute waste of time. But, hey, TNA got their Fortune vs. Immortal match and an overcomplicated brawl in on a show, so I guess that's what's important. People will draw even more lines between Anderson and Steve Austin with that routine he just did, but I don't care. I'll take anything from Anderson that doesn't involve fart noises and asshole puns, and you can certainly do worse than pissed-off badass.

Back from the break, an advert aired for Bound For Glory.

Mickie James cut a quick promo about Winter and how she was coming after her. She talked about how Winter burned her face, and she was going to return the favor.

Ryan's Rant: Wait, wasn't that supposed to be blood? Blood burned? How did that not scald Winter's mouth? Come on TNA, if you're going to do a stupid angle, at least try and make it make sense.

The epic confrontation between Eric Young and Scott Baio finally arrived. Young scored the win to campy comedy music.

Crimson made his way to the ring. Kurt Angle quickly followed. Jeremy Borash handled the in-ring introductions.

[Q8] 5. Crimson beat Kurt Angle via DQ in 10:12 in a non-title match. The two danced in a circle and sized each other up. The crowd had a dueling "Let's go Angle; Let's go Crimson!" chant going. Not what you want to have happening with your top heel in the ring.

Crimson took early control with a cravat, followed by a series of knees into a swinging neckbreaker for the first near fall. Angle immediately targeted Crimson's leg and the two sold on the mat as the show went to break... [C]

Back from the break, Angle suplexed Crimson and locked in a rest hold. Crimson eventually battled out and hit a running shoulder block. Both men sold on the mat as the referee began his count.

Crimson suplexed Angle and got a near fall. Angle hit a German suplex and pulled his straps down while staring at the main camera. In a cool moment, Crimson popped up with an angry look o his face and he nailed Angle with a spear when he turned around.

Angle kicked out of the pin attempt and locked in an ankle lock. Crimson rolled over kicked his way out of the hold. Crimson stood up and hit Red Sky for a great near fall. Moments later, Joe was in the ring and attacking Crimson, causing the DQ.

Post-match, Angle left the ring and Joe continued his assault on Crimson. Eventually, crimson battled him off, and the pair glared at each other.

The announcers hyped the various talking points for next week's show.

Crimson teleported backstage and complained about Joe on the Hervey cam. Joe showed up to continue his assault from the ring. The camera shook like mad and Joe smashed the crap out of Crimson's leg. Joe said he may not have broken Crimson's streak, but he just broke his leg.

Hervey begged Joe off, but Joe destroyed the Hervey cam to close the show.

Ryan's Rant: Well, they are finally doing something with Joe. The final attack on Crimson's leg looked absolutely brutal. The main event was good. I continue to be impressed with Crimson's move set and he and Angle told a good story in the ring.

Overall, the show continued TNA;s trend of performing well in the first hour only to lose their way in the second. Still, they finished strong with the main event, and I look forward to seeing what we get from TNA going on the road next week. I'll see you all then.
