Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] A video aired of the past few weeks of the A.J. Styles and Kurt Angle feud, including Angle and Frank Trigg laying out Styles last week. The title of tonight’s show is “Karen’s Return.” The opening video aired; Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to the show…
1. A.J. Styles defeated Consequences Creed in 4:42. Tenay said Styles was the one who scored Creed a TNA tryout. Styles and Creed shook hands before locking up. Kurt Angle was shown sitting in a chair in the parking lot.
Both men exchanged quick chain wrestling sequences. Styles hit a huge dropkick at the two minute mark. Creed scored his first offense with a rolling thunder closeline. He then hit three jabs and big right for a two count. Creed tried the rolling thunder again but Styles caught him and hit a spinebuster.
Styles ended a series of reversals by hitting the Pele kick. He followed that up with the Styles Clash for the pinfall victory. After the match, Jeremy Borash came out and frantically called for Styles. JB told him Kurt was waiting for Karen. Styles ran to the back… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: That was a fast paced, fun match. Creed continues to impress and losing to someone like Styles helps him more than it hurts.
In the parking lot, Styles, Karen Angle, and Kurt Angle were shown arguing. Security stood in between the three. Styles said Karen was coming back to the locker room with him. Karen said she was there to do her job. Styles insisted she come with him…
Twill’s Two Cents: Karen is here to do her job? What is that exactly?
[Q2] Brother Ray came out for his match. He said Rhino is one punk down and Christian is one punk to go. He told us not to go to the refrigeratahhh or make love to our ugly wives because we were about to see something we have never seen in a wrestling ring. He said tonight would be the end of Christian Cage’s career…
Twill’s Two Cents: Something we have never seen before? Could that be Brother Ray passing on a meal?
Christian Cage made his ring entrance and chased Ray from the ring… [C]
2. Christian Cage defeated Brother Ray by disqualification in 2:21. Cage looked around for potential attackers. Cage used his quickness to hit Ray with multiple knife edge chops. Cage hit a high crossbody and went to the top. Ray caught him and attempted a superplex but Cage pushed him off. He hit a frogsplash for a nearfall.
Johnny Devine entered the ring with a kendo stick. Cage fought him off but Ray ended up with the stick. He hit Christian with it and the referee called for the bell. Brother Devon and Tomko brought a glass table to the ring. Ray stood on the second rope and powerbombed Christian through the table.
The announcers sold it like they shot Christian. Brother Ray grabbed a shard of glass and screamed into the camera, “GLASS! GLASS! I hope it goes through your eye! I hope you swallow it! GLASS!”
Trainers worked on Christian. They placed a white towel on Christian’s back and it quickly became saturated with blood. Kaz and Eric Young came out to check on Cage as Tenay pleaded with the production truck to go to commercial… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: That was actually a pretty cool, albeit dangerous spot. If I were Christian and I heard Ray saying he was going to end my career tonight, I would have quickly got some backup ready. Ray was unintentionally hilarious with his post attack rant into the camera.
[Q3] They showed a replay of the attack as the announcers solemnly called it. They plugged the remainder of tonight’s card...
JB interviewed Kevin Nash backstage. Nash had been watching tapes of Booker T. all day. Nash said there is no motive behind him befriending Joe. He just wanted to give him twenty years of knowledge. JB said he has never known Nash to help people. Joe entered and thought that was a great point.
Joe said something about Nash earning his warrior stripes. Nash called that the catchphrase of the month. He said he has had 26 surgeries and he is not going to expend energy doing squat thrusts or muay thai kicks. Joe wished Nash luck…
Awesome Kong, Raisha Saeed, and JB came out for the $25,000 challenge. They focused on three possible contestants… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Nash has been fantastic in the past couple of months and that promo was no exception. Great stuff.
3. Awesome Kong (with Raisha Saeed) defeated Danielle in a $25,000 fan challenge to retain the TNA Knockouts Championship in 2:03. Kong beat Danielle to the floor. Taylor, the challenger from last week, had a ringside seat. Kong shoved her. Kong hit the Awesome Bomb on Danielle for the win…
Kong called for Taylor and she was game. She jumped the rail and attacked Kong in the ring. She even knocked out Saeed. Security broke up the fight. Jim Cornette came down and yelled at Taylor. Taylor said she wanted to beat Saeed for another chance at Kong. Cornette agreed to talk to her about it…
Twill’s Two Cents: I hope people watching this will not get any ideas, such as randomly attacking Colin Delaney at an ECW show, and think Teddy Long will come out and be willing to negotiate with you.
[Q4] They aired a clip focusing on Angelina Love’s start in professional wrestling. Gail Kim called Love a young, sweet girl. Love stayed in character and said Gail never helped her out. Love was with TNA in the Asylum days before going back to Border City. Jerry Lawler, Mickie James, and Trinity were all visible in the video… [C]
Team Japan’s music hit for the World X Cup match, but Frank Trigg came out instead. Trigg cut a promo on Styles and was upset about being attacked from behind last week. He called Styles a candyass. Styles, Karen, and JB watched from the back. A.J. tried to get angry and throw things, but he only got ahold of a hung up shirt and suitcase.
Styles cued the music guy and came out. Immediately, Karen was approached by Kurt. Trigg admitted to setting up Styles. Velvet Sky and Angelina Love came in an attacked Karen. Styles rushed to her aide… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Great to see you back Velvet. How much does Kurt look like Frank? The resemblance is uncanny.
Back from commercial, a shot of the locker room door of Booker T. was shown. He had some red wrapping paper and a gold star on it…
Team International and Team TNA came out to observe the World X Cup match…
[Q5] 4. Ultimato Guerrero and Rey Bucanero of Team Mexico defeated Doi and Yoshino of Team Japan in a first round World X Cup match in 5:29. Team Mexico brought out an Italian flag. For those of you who may not know, the only difference between the Italian flag and Mexican flag is the logo in the middle. This flag had no logo.
Yoshino ran the ropes about ten times before hitting a midsection dropkick. He hit a double foot stomp from the top. They scored a sweet double team drop toehold/dropkick to the face. Both teams hit a series of fast and impressive double team moves.
Guerrero hit a belly to back flip suplex from the top rope. Bucanero hit a top rope corkscrew senton for the pinfall victory, earning a point for Team Mexico…
Twill’s Two Cents: I hope nobody blinked because you would have missed about five moves. That was a great display of skill, quickness, and athleticism. It is also an example of how an alternative product to heavyweight main eventers can be presented as something special to wrestling fans.
Lauren interviewed SoCal Val and Jay Lethal backstage. Lethal gave a great promo identifying his frustration and anger toward Sonjay Dutt. Val, sporting new boobs apparently, said she needed more time before they could get married. Lethal was surprised and said he was ready to get married tomorrow… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Anyone think Val will not turn on Jay?
[Q6] They aired a video of fans sending in their videos to be involved in the Fan’s Challenge match between LAX and Robert Roode & James Storm…
Sonjay Dutt came out with a bunch of mini-gurus. The kids collected money. West wondered how anyone could not give money to a kid. Dutt said the money was for the “Set Val Free Foundation.” Val came out, followed shortly by Lethal, who attacked Dutt in the ring…
Backstage, Booker T. brought JB into his locker room. He asked him to take off his shoes. There was a picture of Booker and Muhammad Ali. JB asked, “Is that a picture of the greatest?” Booker said, “Yes, and the other guy is Muhammad Ali.” Funny.
Booker’s room was red and full of velvet. He put on a robe and grabbed a tobacco pipe. He cut a promo on Nash saying their places on the totem pole have reversed. He said he would bust Nash’s punk ass. He asked if we could dig that, he dismissed JB, and he put the pipe to his mouth… [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Booker has always been hit or miss with me. I think he is great or completely forgettable. Well, right now, he is fantastic. I like that this character is a mix of his Booker T. and King Booker character. The pipe was pure comedic gold.
A TNA Rough Cuts segment featured Matt Morgan. He talked about his transition from college basketball to professional wrestling…
[Q7] Tomko and JB tried to reason with Kurt Angle. JB said, “I am all for people putting a woman in her place, but you are being ridiculous.” Team 3D approached. Ray asked Kurt how he could wake up next to someone like Karen for ten years. He said Kurt is an Olympic gold medalist and should be eating filet mignon and drinking champagne. He said Kurt settled for cold cuts and Colt 45. Tomko’s “this is embarrassing” facial expressions were priceless.
Ray offered to set up Kurt on a blind date. He said he had a thick black book full of nines and tens, unlike Jeremy, who is used to twos and ones. Kurt agreed but said, “No fat chicks; I know Devon’s reputation.” Devon acted offended but finally agreed. Kurt asked what was in it for Team 3D; they said they want Kurt to be happy…
Twill’s Two Cents: Brother Ray is verbally on fire tonight.
5. Moose defeated ODB in a Knockout Bimbo Brawl in 6:09. ODB spit the contents of her flask at Moose. They fought to the outside and traded weapon shots. Back in the ring, Moose dragged ODB around by a chain wrapped around her neck. She sat on the top rope and hung ODB in the corner. ODB snapmared Moose into the ring.
ODB hit an impressive fallaway slam followed by a nip up. She hit Moose with three shovel shots for a long two count. ODB missed a high risk move, allowing Moose hit a double underhook DDT on a chair for the win…
Twill’s Two Cents: Solid, but forgettable women’s street fight. Moose lost those horrible gym shorts, but her new outfit is not much better. For two straight weeks, the women’s division has taken a step down (minus Awesome Kong). I hope they get back on track soon.
A final plug for Booker T. vs. Kevin Nash aired… [C]
[Q8] 6. Booker T. defeated Kevin Nash in a no disqualification match in 10:51. Booker danced around to stall in the early going. Samoa Joe came down with a chair, set it up, and took a seat at the bottom of the entrance ramp.
Nash closelined Booker through the ropes and onto the floor. He followed him out and hit Booker with multiple right hands. Nash rolled Booker back into the ring but Booker regained the offensive advantage by attacking Nash on his way over the top rope… [C]
Nash was on the offensive coming back from commercial, as both men were back on the floor. The frequent shots of Samoa Joe prompted the announcers to say Joe was respecting Nash’s effort. Nash tried a short closeline but Booker ducked and hit a spinning heel kick.
Booker threw Nash to the floor and got the best of him out there for the first time tonight. Booker wanted Joe’s chair. Earl Hebner broke up a potential confrontation. As Joe took his eyes off of Booker, Booker blindsided him. He then hit him in the head with a chairshot.
Booker reentered the ring and hit Nash with two chairshots for a nearfall. Joe recovered and attacked Booker in the ring. Joe set Booker up for a superkick. He predictably kicked Kevin Nash instead. Booker threw Joe out of the ring and covered Nash for the win…
After the match, Nash and Joe went chest to chest as security stepped in between them. Booker T. loved every moment of the blowup…
Twill’s Two Cents: That was a disappointing ending. Everyone knew Joe was going to kick Nash. Booker should have gone over at least relatively clean here. I understand they are setting up Joe vs. Nash, but Booker needs to look strong too, especially if he is going to win the title.
