Mar 31, 2011 - 08:00 PM

By Will Pruett

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fl. on 3-16-11

[Q1] The show opened with a recap of RVD vs. Mr. Anderson last week, along with interview footage of a very angry Mr. Anderson and Sting after the match. The title of the show is “R-V-Damned”.

Mr. Anderson made his way to the ring with Earl Hebner in a headlock. Anderson requested a mic for Hebner and handed it to him. He demanded that Hebner tell him why he rang the bell and disqualified Anderson last week. Hebner told Anderson to shut up and said that his shirt stands for authority and respect.

Anderson pushed Hebner lightly and Hebner said “Don’t you ever put your damn hands on me again and if you do I will suspend you for 90 days, minimum.” Hebner said he was trying to explain authority and respect for officials and that is why Anderson was DQ’d. Anderson said that Hebner was provoking him right now and that he must reverse the decision.

Hebner promised Anderson that the decision stands “Asshole”. Anderson went for the Mic Check, but Brian Hebner ran down to the ring to save his dad. Anderson said it’s cute that daddy’s little boy is down to make the save. Anderson asked if they wanted to screw him and mentioned Montreal.

Sting’s music hit and he made his way to the ring. He told the referees to leave and asked Anderson why he doesn’t pick on him. Anderson asked if Sting wanted him to pick on him then said “This is asshole country.” Sting said he was here to disrespect Anderson and punched him. The two exchanged shots as TNA security made their first appearance of the night and separated the two.

RVD’s horrible music hit and he said “Ladies please, you’re both pretty, alright?” He said that if Anderson really believes he can beat him and the DQ prevented that, he wants Anderson in. RVD asked Hebner to make Lockdown a threeway match. Hebner said he didn’t have the power to do that.

Immortal’s music hit and Hogan and Bischoff wandered onto the ramp. Hogan said “That’s the RVD I brought to TNA” and said to consider the threeway done. Bischoff said that he had another phenomenal idea. He said the network wants ratings and Lockdown was coming up. He put the three men in the Lockdown main event in a cage match against Immortal’s Abyss, Matt Hardy and Bully Ray.

Immortal’s music hit as the three looked at each other. Sting hit a Stinger Splash on Anderson, and security kept them apart again. Sting’s music hit and he walked away from the ring. [C]

Pruett’s Pause: Before the commercial break, Mike Tenay said that this is ratings. Is it really Mike? Are we kayfabing ratings now? The segment was good, but I’m not crazy about showing a cage match this close to an all cage pay-per-view.

[Q2] A Shop TNA ad aired which informed us that there are no flowers or bonnets on the website.

Ken Anderson was asked by the Hervey cam for a comment. Anderson said “No comment” then told Jason to get out of his face.

RVD was shown on the Hervey cam saying that RVD knows how to keep everything in balance. RVD said he could take care of everyone at once.

Sting said that he was disrespected and is owed an apology. He intends to get it.

Mike Tenay and Taz discussed the six man cage match main event and ran through the rest of the card.

Shannon Moore is shown backstage saying that he disrespected Scott Steiner because he comes to the ring with that stupid headdress on. He said that Steiner is old and he doesn’t respect him.

Steiner is shown and said that he doesn’t know what disrespect is and he would sleep with Moore’s girlfriend. Somehow this lead to a match being made.

Bully Ray is shown in the parking lot saying that he doesn’t have a statement about putting AJ Styles in the hospital. He said he is the baddest BMF in TNA and said that he has a large chip on his should. He said that Hogan and Bischoff love the chip on his should. Bully Ray threatened to beat a security guard up.

Eric Young and Orlando Jordan were shown on their way out. [C]

Pruett’s Pause: Well that was a boring round of promos. Was it really necessary? I mean, we saw the guys in the ring before. It just made the show feel more ADD.

Jeff and Karen Jarrett were talking to Hogan and Bischoff backstage. They said that there was no way that Hulk could want a member of Immortal in a cage with Kurt Angle. Hulk Hogan basically made a match between Rob Terry and Kurt Angle tonight.

Eric Young and Orlando Jordan were on commentary and Shannon Moore was waiting in the ring. Scott Steiner made his entrance. Eric Young announced a four way tag match for Lockdown between them, the two teams at the ring and a mystery team.

1. Scott Steiner w/ Crimson defeated Shannon Moore w/ Jesse Neal in 4:30. Moore avoided Steiner to start and was thrown into the ring by Crimson. Steiner whipped Moore off the ropes and gave him a back body drop. Young and Jordan made vague references to the latter’s sexuality on commentary as Steiner landed a belly to belly suplex for a two count.

Steiner went for a belly to back suplex and Moore landed on his feet. He hit Steiner with a series of kicks and stomped him on the ground. Moore taunted Steiner with pushups. Moore punch Steiner into the corner and went to whip him across the ring. Steiner reversed it.

Moore hit Steiner with a drop kick then picked up Steiner’s head piece, put it on and went for a moonsault. Steiner moved out of the way, hit a Steiner line and an elbow drop followed by some pushups.

[Q3] Steiner put Moore up on the top rope and hit the FrankenSteiner for three. Steiner posed on the ropes and celebrated with Crimson. Young and Jordan left the broadcast position to congratulate the winner.

They were jumped from behind by Magnus and Doug Williams, who were alluded to as the mystery team. Williams and Magnus stomped Young and Jordan as the British Invasion music played. [C]

Pruett’s Pause: That match was quite slow. I am not a fan of Moore’s act and Steiner is being used well, but shouldn’t be in the ring this much. Young and Jordan really took away from the match on commentary.

Mr. Anderson was shown backstage talking to a poster of himself and saying that Sting wants an apology. The poster voice told Sting to go f*** himself. The camera man asked if that meant no. Anderson said it did.

Karen Jarrett asked Jeff Jarrett what if the plan didn’t work. Jarrett said that it would work and told her to leave it to the professionals. She said that he agreed to step into a cage with Kurt. Jeff said he had a plan B and he would handle it.

A video package of Max and Jeremy Buck’s budding feud aired.

In the ring, Jeremy Buck was shown. Max walked down to the ring.

2. Max Buck defeated Jeremy Buck in 4:01. Max and Jeremy locked up and traded arm twists. Max and Jeremy reached a stalemate and the crowd classed. Jeremy hit a series of armdrags and a monkey toss on Max. Max slid out to the floor and Jeremy followed.

Jeremy invited Max to get back into the ring and offered a handshake. Max took the handshake and put Jeremy in a headlock. Jeremy recieved a shoulder block, followed by getting put into a fireman’s carry. Jeremy reversed it and want for a sunset flip.

Jeremy hit a flying armdrag on Max and fired up. Jeremy told Max to bring it on. Jeremy hit a hurricanrana then Max lured Jeremy to jump outside. Jeremy landed on his elbow and Max invited Jeremy into the ring. Max hit Jeremy with a spinning kick and powerbombed him into the corner. He then hit a blockbuster on Jeremy out of the corner for three.

Backstage Fortune, sans A.J. Styles was shown and they said that “he’s landed and on his way.” [C]

Pruett’s Pause: The match was good but nothing seemed to have much of an impact until the final move. It could have used more time and more selling.

[Q4] Winter and Angelina Love were shown backstage. Winter told Angelina to drink her drink. She said that Velvet is a big girl and that she wants to control Angelina. Angelina drank her beverage as Winter said she was trying to protect her.

A Winter, Velvet Sky and Angelina Love video package was shown.

Pruett’s Pause: Why is Angelina Love a zombie? Seriously, why?

Velvet Sky made her entrance and Taz loves pigeons. Winter then made her entrance with a blindfold on for some reason. [C]

3. Winter defeated Velvet Sky in 4:04. Velvet Sky charged at Winter and shoulder blocked her in the corner. The ref separated them and Winter made her way to another corner. Velvet attacked and the referee once again separated them. Velvet took Winter to the ground and kicked her. She pinned her for two. Velvet Sky went to attack Winter in the corner, Winter moved and took control.

Winter stepped on Velvet’s throat and kicked her in the side. She threw Velvet by the hair and gave her a backbreaker for a two count. Winter picked Velvet up for a fireman’s carry and Velvet escaped. Velvet clotheslined Winter and followed it up with a bulldog.

[Q5] Angelina Love walked down the ramp zombie style and Velvet looked at her. Winter attacked the distracted Velvet and hit her with the sidewalk slam backbreaker type maneuver. Winter put a headlock like submission on Velvet and Velvet tapped out.

After the bell, Angelina continued to zombie stare into the ring. The announcers hyped the main event.

Anderson’s music hit in mid plug and he walked to the ring. He called out Sting and the icon obliged, making his way to the ring.

Sting and Anderson stood face to face and Anderson asked if Sting wanted him to apologize to him. Anderson said he was normally an asshole, but he is going to do something he normally never does. He then punched Sting and Stirng replied with taking down Anderson. They brawled to ringside and took turns hitting each other into the barricades. Sting threw Anderson over the barricade and followed him into the crowd. Sting and Anderson brawled into the crowd ran each other into various parts of the stands and the walls that mask them. Sting went over the barricade back to ringside.

Anderson followed and they continued to trade shots. Sting ran Anderson’s head into the stairs. Bully Ray, Matt Hardy and Abyss ran down to beat both men down. Bully Ray wokred the leg of Sting while Abyss and Hardy double teamed Anderson. Bully hit Sting in the head repeatedly with a microphone.

Rob Van Dam’s music hit and hit jogged gingerly to the ring and got into it with Bully Ray, kicking him in the head and taking him down. RVD then allowed Abyss and Hardy to continue beating up Anderson. Abyss and Hardy tossed Anderson into the ring and Sting made his way to his feet and punched Anderson. Sting’s music hit to end the segment.

Jeff and Karen Angle were shown backstage apparently framing Kurt Angle for trying to assault her.[C]

Pruett’s Pause: So earlier when these two wanted to brawl, security stopped them. Did security leave the building early? The Velvet and Winter match should have been a bigger deal than it was. The brawl was just too long after it. The addition of the Immortal wrestlers did not help things. It did not effectively hype the main event cage match.

[Q6] A TNA Live video aired.

Back in the Impact Zone, Taz and Tenay narrated a replay of the previous segment, highlighting RVD not helping Anderson.

Ric Flair was backstage saying that his guys had basically already won the match. The camera man asked about RVD and Hardy said they can take him. Bully Ray echoed that sentiment. Flair said that the three guys are capable of taking Sting, RVD and Anderson out.

Velvet was shown saying that Winter is a crazy bitch. She said that Winter could not break up the Beautiful People. The camera man asked her about Angelina’s actions. Velvet said she has never seen her like that. Velvet said that she believes that Winter is drugging her. She said it is her duty as a best friend to help out Angelina and get them back to the top of the Knockout’s division.

Kurt Angle made his way to the ring in jeans and a t-shirt turned into a tank top. He grabbed a mic and asked if Jarrett wanted to play games with his personal life. He told Jarrett to get his ass out now because he is not waiting till Lockdown.

Jarrett’s music hit and he came out in street clothes with Rob Terry following. Mike Tenay explained that Terry was going to fight Kurt.

4. Kurt Angle defeated Rob Terry 1:37. A referee magically appeared as Rob Terry hit Angle from behind. Terry pounds on Angle on the floor and up into the corner. Terry hit a shoulder block in the corner and whipped him into the opposite corner. Angle kicked Terry and flew at him from the second rope. Terry caught Angle and slammed him down.

Terry tried for a scoop slam, but Angle rolled out and locked the ankle lock onto Terry and Terry tapped out.

Jeff Jarrett tried to run backstage, but Angle stopped him and attempted the ankle lock in the ring. Jarrett avoided it and Kurt ambushed Jarrett on the ramp. Kurt tried for the Angle Slam on the stage, but Jeff ran backstage. When Kurt came back looking for him, he found cops and Karen Jarrett. Karen screamed and the cops arrested Kurt Angle. Angle said Karen was something else and he would kick Jarrett’s ass at Lockdown.

Immortal talked backstage about Anderson and RVD’s problems. They said that they have to have Sting’s back. They said all four of them had to, once again alluding to a fourth man. The cage match was hyped for next. [C]

Pruett’s Pause: The match was nothing more than a device to get Angle and Jarrett face to face. I find the arrest angle tasteless given Angle’s previous real life problems that have been rumored.

[Q7] Hogan and Bischoff were shown backstage saying that this was great work. Hulk said all three guys will be too consumed with each other and easy pickin’s.

Immortal’s music hit and the team was announced. Ric Flair led Abyss, Matt Hardy and Bully Ray to the ring. Bully Ray gave instructions to Abyss on the ramp and they stepped into the cage. The announcers hyped Lethal Lockdown.

Rob Van Dam’s music hit and he walked to ringside. Mr. Anderson’s music was next and he did his entire microphone bit, even though Jeremy Borash had already introduced him. Sting attacked him halfway through the bit and suplexed him on the stage.

Flair gave RVD a low blow and Sting and RVD got into the cage.

5. Bully Ray, Matt Hardy and Abyss w/ Ric Flair defeated. Sting, Mr. Anderson and Rob Van Dam in 13:09. Sting dominated all three men like it was WarGames 1996 with Stinger Splashes all around. He was taken down by Bully Ray and stomped by all three men. Ray then truned his attention on RVD.

Anderson sat at ringside and watched his partners get beat. [C]

Back from commercial and the heels are triple teaming Sting. Anderson is still sitting. Ray and Abyss are stomping Sting and Matt Hardy hit a neckbreaker on RVD.

Hulk Hogan’s music played and he walked to the ring in his back brace. He tapped Anderson on the shoulder and told him to get his rear end in the cage. Hulk called him an asshole and told him to get into the cage. Hulk jabbed Anderson in the eyes, rammed him into the door and threw him into the cage.

As Anderson got up, he found himself surround by the heels and Sting. Sting was the man to take the first shot, then ram Anderson into the wall. Abyss took Sting down and Hardy stomped on RVD. Bully Ray shoved his boot into Anderson’s face. Ric Flair pulled RVD’s hair from outside.

The heels once again worked over Sting and Matt Hardy went for the pin and got two. The two teams have separated into corners, so it looks like after ten minutes this is tag team rules. Matt Hardy has Sting in a headlock. Sting mounts a comeback with some punches. He can’t make it to RVD and Abyss is tagged in. Abyss beats on Sting on the ground as Bully Ray yelled encouragement. Abyss told Sting to get up and tagged in Bully Ray.

[Q8] The two double teamed Sting with punches and Ray and Abyss went for stereo clotheslines and Sting dodged them. Sting crawled towards RVD and tagged him as Hardy was tagged by Ray. RVD took control until Abyss hit him from behind. RVD kicked Abyss from the top rope and went for the five star from the top. Anderson pushed RVD off the top and Bully Ray hit the Bubba Bomb for the pin and three count.

Anderson left the ring and Immortal continued beating on Sting and RVD. Fortune’s music hit and Kazarian and Beer Money made their way to the ring. The three of them beat on the three members of Immortal. Flair handed Bully Ray the chain from the cage and Flair locked Fortune in the cage.

Immortal took control as Bully Ray hit people and whipped Sting with the chain. Ray choked Robert Roode with the chain. Kazarian and Robert Roode are now bleeding as the three Immortal members hit their finishers on Fortune. Kazarian ate a chokeslam from Abyss and the beating continued.

Christopher Daniels appeared from the crowd and scaled the cage. He hit a big crossbody from the top of the cage onto Immortal. [C]

Pruett’s Pause: More of an elongated beating that had a purpose than a match. The Anderson stuff was actually kind of fun, but I didn’t need Hogan to get involved. The beating did take a little longer than it needed to before Daniels showed up. I would have preferred a bigger return for Daniels, aside from just randomly showing up from the crowd.

Back from commercial and the announcers narrated replays of the cage match and its aftermath.

Ric Flair was backstage asking who that piss-ant was. Bully Ray said it was a pretty boy. He called him A.J. Styles’ best friend. Flair said to forget about Sting, Fortune and Van Dam because all of them beat him. Bully Ray bragged about making Kazarian bleed and Abyss said it was nothing compared to Lockdown. Flair said they wouldn’t make it to Lockdown. Abyss said they’d finish it at Lockdown. Matt Hardy said they’d fall one by one. Bully Ray said returning against Immortal was a bad idea.

Christopher Daniels said that they should have never ddone that to his best friend. Kazarian covered in blood said that he is willing to bleed for TNA. He said that Daniels always has his back inside and outside of the ring. Kazarian said he was just getting warmed up. James Storm said they are the dangerous ones now and that Fortune was the best in TNA.

Daniels said it is not just blood, it is what TNA was built on. He said that they would not run from the sight of their own blood. Kazarian said this was just the beginning.

Sting said that at Lockdown it would be showtime and that this was just a warm up.

Mr. Anderson avoided questions from the camera, then said he has been getting screwed over. Rob Van Dam ambushed him and threw him down in the back. “Thanks for tonight” RVD said. Mr. Anderson laid on the ground and said he would beat RVD’s ass.

Pruett’s Pause: These three and four promo in a row segments really don’t work. They aren’t long enough to make an impact and even if they do, they jump straight to another promo. It’s just obnoxious. The build for the Lethal Lockdown match was alright, but nothing actually made me want to see the match.

Overall, a middle of the road edition of Impact with a lot of plot holes and logical flaws. I’ll have more to say tomorrow in my Pruett’s Pause and Dot Net Member exclusive audio review. Make sure to check for Jason Powell’s TNA Impact Hitlist tomorrow also. Thanks for watching with me tonight.
