8/12 TNA Reaction: Live coverage of the newest TNA television show, EV2 and Fortune followup
Aug 12, 2010 - 10:00 PM

TNA Reaction on Spike TV
Taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] The show opened with footage of Fortune, Douglas Williams, and Matt Morgan attacking the former ECW wrestlers... They showed a shot of Rob Van Dam being loaded into an ambulance...

A narrator said footage will be shown of Dixie Carter laying down the law in the Impact Zone. The guy sounded like he listened to "Deadliest Catch" for inspiration...

Kurt Angle, Mr. Anderson, and Jeff Hardy provided separate comments on Abyss and his "they" talk. Angle said he's demented from childhood and questioned whether "they" are just in Abyss's mind. Anderson said something similar.

Jeff Hardy said he just watched his best friend get hauled out of the building looking like something straight out of a horror movie. Anderson said he hopes "They" reveal themselves or Abyss "goes and gets some help or takes some pills." Anderson said people have been dropping like flies since EV2 showed up.

Hardy said he's a fan of the EV2 faction. He said he wished he could have done something to help. The narrator asked whether Fortune has become the most powerful faction in TNA. A shot aired of Dixie Carter, who was asked by the camera guy to explain what happened. "I don't know," Dixie responded...

They teased the question of whether Hardcore Justice was the end for "the hardcore originals"... [C]

Powell's POV: I'm digging the show so far. This was very well planned in terms of going right from a hot angle on Impact and continuing to tell the story on Reaction. The footage is much better than it was during the pilot, which required a lot of subtitles because the audio was poor in some parts.

After the break, Abyss cut a promo at the side of the stage. He said he did what he said he was going to do by ripping the flesh off RVD. Apparently, we're supposed to believe the fake blood was a product of his stupid weapon that he can't hit anyone with because it would kill them.

Powell's POV: Abyss really needs to go to a dark place where he doesn't talk anymore. I didn't like hearing him cut his typical promo moments after the big attack. Why would he still be hanging around? Shouldn't there be mega-heat on him to the point that he had to leave? Ugh.

A trainer spoke about RVD's injuries... Backstage footage aired of A.J. Styles and Kazarian talking about the attack. They complained about Dixie bringing in stars from another company when they should be getting the spotlight.

Powell's POV: There's something to be said for giving the fans a week to wonder what the heels motives were. Again, shouldn't there be mega-heat on Fortune and everyone involved in the match? They're just hanging out backstage patting each other on the back and no one wants retribution?

[Q2] Brother Devon spoke about the beatdown. They aired a close up shot of an extremely bloody Devon from during the beatdown...

Backstage, a bloody and always selfless Tommy Dreamer told Dixie Carter that he's oka, but he wanted an update on Rob Van Dam. Dixie told Dreamer to bring the EV2 guys next week. "It wasn't supposed to be that way," Carter said. They started yelling at each other. Dreamer wanted to know what she's going to do to make it right. She yelled to get the guys there next week. "You don't want us making this right," Dreamer said...

Narrator guy teased Angelina Love comments and an update on RVD... [C] The Motor City Machine Guns discussed their tag title match as shots aired of them defeating Beer Money to retain the TNA Tag Titles. Alex Shelley said TNA is the only company that puts an emphasis on tag team wrestling, and added that they are masters of the art...

A video package touted The Guns. Older footage of them talking while sitting in the stands at the Impact Zone. Chris Sabin said they prefer regular matches. "I also enjoy the ones where we win," Shelley cracked... [C]

Powell's POV: A good video package that stressed how the Guns put in four years as a team before finally winning the TNA Tag Titles. I've liked everything other than the heels from the beatdown talking so far.

[Q3] [C] The focus switched the TNA Knockouts Title change. Angelina Love spoke about being a five-time champion. Love came across more obnoxious than Rayne, who was mellow and was speaking in a normal voice. She referred to the masked woman as her bodyguard. Velvet chimed in and complained about losing the TNA Knockouts Tag Titles...
Powell's POV: Worst bodyguard ever. They mystery biker chick costs her more matches than she helps Madison win. Angelina calmed down as they went on. Velvet was pretty much her usual character during her interview segment. The audio quality sucked during Velvet's interview. You could hear, but all the background noise was distracting. The focus on the Beautiful People went on longer than it needed to since there aren't many layers to this one.

After the break, they teased an update on RVD's condition. Dixie Carter was shown backstage. Eric Bischoff was on the phone and apologized to Carter. "I'm sorry, Dixie," Bischoff said. "I'm so sorry." He told the person on the phone that it's "a lot worse than we thought." He said he was hoping to get an update on RVD before the end of the show...

[Q4] A video recapped Dixie bringing EV2 to TNA. Tommy Dreamer spoke backstage and he seemed to have the Ricky Bobby problem of not knowing what to do with his hands. More footage aired from Impact. Back to Dreamer, who said he doesn't care about himself, it's all about what happened to his friends.

Dreamer put over the Fortune crew. He recalled sitting at the pay-per-view and listen to some of them put over how great the ECW crew was. They played footage of Styles and Kazarian's ECW testimonials from the pay-per-view. Back to Dreamer, who said they're just pieces of shit.

More footage aired from the Fortune attack angle. Dreamer said they are the most respectful guys in the business. "A lot of time our heroes let us down," Dreamer said. "Ric Flair, you let us down. You want to knock us? We knock harder." Great line from Dreamer. Footage aired of Flair yelling at Carter on Impact.

Dreamer said Fortune is going to know what it's like to be in there with guys who are obsessed with revenge. He added that the only way Dixie can make this right is "eye for an eye, blood for blood"... The narrator teased a preview of next week's Impact and an RVD update... [C]

Powell's POV: Dreamer was good here, but it did seem odd that he's standing around talking so much rather than going to see his friend in the hospital. By the way, I hate that they made Abyss's stupid weapon responsible for RVD's injuries. The fake blood looked really corny and a visual beatdown angle would have been much better.

More Dreamer comments, followed by Abyss, and then footage of RVD being loaded into the ambulance. They previewed various storyline continuations for next week's show...

Angle put over the EV2 faction. Hardy said he's willing to step on the side of the EV2 crew because he doesn't like Fortune...

James Storm and Robert Roode were talking backstage about EV2 when the phone rang. Storm answered and acknowledged that it was Flair. "Yes, sir, by any means necessary," Storm said before hanging up. Roode said Flair is the boss now, but he expressed interest in regaining the TNA Tag Titles...

Powell's POV: Did Eric Bischoff sound off on ECW, ROH, and the IWC today so that he would have an excuse to say people weren't being unbiased if they panned the debut of the TNA Reaction show that he co-produced? He didn't need to. It wasn't a perfect show, as the heels from the beatdown angle really annoyed me, but I liked the overall concept and the quality of the footage.

It might play better as a 30-minute show. Three hours of TNA on Thursday nights feels like overkill, and it felt like we were seeing similar replay footage as the show went on. Overall, this was significantly better than the pilot. For what it's worth, Bischoff, Jason Hervey, and Dixie Carter were listed as creators of the show, and Vince Russo was listed as some type of producer.
