7/22 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Dixie Carter explains why she invited the former ECW wrestlers to TNA, Motor City Machine Guns vs. Beer Money, Jeff Hardy vs Samoa Joe
Jul 22, 2010 - 10:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] Creepy ass music played as Abyss was shown hanging out at playgrounds. The ECW Invasion from last week was shown. Tonight's show is entitled, Extreme Invitation." Dixie Carter was shown arriving to the building...

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Kurt Angle vs. Hernandez, Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Hardy, and Dixie's explanation were all hyped for the show...

1. A.J. Styles (with Kazarian) defeated Rob Terry to win the TNA Global Championship in 3:06. Terry overpowered A.J. and even hit a reverse spin kick, but Kazarian distracted the referee. With Styles on the apron, Terry suplexed him back into the ring. Kazarian grabbed and held Terry's leg, allowing Styles to win the match and worthless championship belt...

Twill's Two Cents: Rick Rude, Bobby Heenan, and The Ultimate Warrior did that spot at WrestleMania V and we did not see it again for a very long time. Seems like it's been done to death lately. The belt doesn't mean anything, but I'd rather see Styles with it than Terry.

Tenay and Taz discussed the ECW Invasion and Mick Foley's return...

Backstage, Sarita and Madison Rayne were talking shit about Taylor Wilde and Velvet Sky, respectively. Velvet and Lacey Von Erich approached them. An argument ensued. They are both bitches. They are going to handle this. That was the gist of it... [C]

[Q2] Backstage, Dixie was tearing new ones for Al Snow, Simon Diamond, D'Lo Brown, and Terry Taylor. They argued not knowing what was going on...

2. Angelina Love and Taylor Wilde defeated Madison Rayne and Sarita in 2:22. No Beautiful People involved, but Madison still humped the middle rope on the way into the ring.

Earl Hebner said the "Board of Directors" had no proof who interfered at Victory Road, so Angelina had to surrender the belt back to Madison. She got pissed and the match began.

Taylor and Sarita brawled violently to the floor. Angelina hit her finisher on Madison for the win. Afterward, the motorcycle woman appeared. TBP came out to the ramp, so everyone but Daffney and Rosey were accounted for.

After they beat down the babyfaces, Madison and Velvet yelled at Lacey to come to them like a "Who does the dog love more?" contest. She decided to go with Madison. Velvet and Angelina made eye contact...

Hernandez vs. Kurt Angle was hyped for later tonight... [C]

[Q3] The ECW Five (Dreamer, Raven, Richards, Rhino, and Foley) arrived at the building...

3. Kurt Angle defeated Hernandez in 5:59. Angle tried to brawl with Hernandez early, but Super Mex dominated with his strength and power. Angle scored a nearfall with the rope running belly to belly suplex.

Angle hit four German suplexes in a row and scored a two count. Hernandez countered an Angle Slam with a Dominator for a two count. He set up for the Border Toss but Angle slipped out and hit the Angle Slam for a two count.

Kurt went to the top and missed a moonsault. Hernandez attempted a very delayed vertical suplex, but Angle slid down and locked in the ankle lock. He laid down with it applied and Hernandez had no choice but to tap out...

Twill's Two Cents: I like the Angle storyline, but I wish every match was treated as a bigger deal, predictable outcomes or not. We know Angle is going to win these matches, by why not make them all PPV matches or at least Impact main events?

Kevin Nash's music hit and he came out to the ring. Nash and Angle hugged and Taz mentioned they were former Main Event Mafia members together. Nash called out Jeff Jarrett... [C]

[Q4] Jeff Jarrett's music hit and he joined Nash in the ring. Nash said something did not feel right about what went down last week. Nash said it was Jarrett and not Sting who left the log in the punch bowl. Time to get some new punch.

Nash said the young guys in the back were the victims. Jarrett said he had no idea what Nash was talking about. Nash was the one who used deceit to get Scott Hall and Sean Waltman jobs in TNA. Nash asked Jarrett how he will handle it when his three daughters grow up and realize Jarrett is a selfish prick...

Twill's Two Cents: What was that? That was just odd with an abrupt ending to it. Obviously, there will be more to come.

Backstage, Dixie and Kurt Angle exchanged pleasantries. Angle told Dixie to be careful with the ECW guys. She said to trust her. He said he did trust her. They kissed goodbye and Angle took off...

Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe was hyped for after the break... [C]

4. Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe ended in a ten minute time limit draw. They took a call from Eric Bischoff during the match. Weird timing as the focus should be on the dream matchup. Bischoff said he and Hulk Hogan had not spoken to Dixie about her announcement. He said they were team players and supported Dixie as the owner of the company.

[Q5] Early on, Joe countered Hardy's quickness by simply waiting out his moves and hitting a more powerful move of his own. Joe hit a very impressive Pele style kick in the corner and scored a two count. He scored a closer nearfall with a snap powerslam.

Hardy scored a nearfall of his own with a mule kick and delayed corner dropkick. Joe came back and hit a powerbomb for two. He followed with a STF and then a crossface. Jeff countered a rear naked choke by ramming Joe into the corner and hit the Whisper in the Wind. They fought to the bell...

Twill's Two Cents: Entertaining match with a logical finish. I would have been surprised to see either guy lose this match. Occasional time limit draws are good things and a feud between Hardy and Joe could be a very good thing for TNA.

Backstage, Dixie and Jarrett spoke briefly about Kevin Nash. Dixie said she needed Jarrett's help by having him tell the locker room she had good intentions regarding the ECW guys... [C]

5. Mr. Anderson defeated Matt Morgan in 3:25. What a world we live where calling yourself an asshole is a good thing. In fact, Anderson is the "Head Asshole in Charge."

[Q6] Taz poked fun at Michael Cole by calling Morgan's corner elbows, "Vintage." Morgan hit a fallaway slam and scored a two count. Morgan toyed with Anderson until Anderson hit the Mic Check out of nowhere for the win...

Morgan hit Anderson with his old school mic, opening Anderson up. He then dropped the microphone on him... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: So, Morgan's new gimmick is that he will lose matches quickly and attack his opponent afterward? Yeah, there's money in that. This is the same guy who took Kurt Angle to the limit at Bound For Glory last year. TNA did not follow up on that very well.

6. Beer Money defeated The Motor City Machine Guns in a street fight and the second of a five match series in 6:42. The Guns hit the ring quickly. The Guns used the ramp like the ring and scored the first fall after a thirty yard running hesitation dropkick.

[Q7] Shelley used a kendo stick on both members of Beer Money. The referee was accidentally taken out. The Guns hit a sliced bread/powerbomb combination, but there was no referee to count. Storm hit Shelley with a beer bottle and dragged the referee over to count to three...

Twill's Two Cents: I hate the beer bottle shit. Here is a crazy idea. Why not let the two best teams in the company tear it up in a best of five series? Give them fifteen minutes every week. I guarantee people would love to see that instead of throwaway screw job matches.

Backstage, Brother Devon approached Brother Ray, who was wearing a LAX shirt, and asked him if he had the back of the ECW guys. Ray said no because Team 3D had nothing to prove to them. They have done more than they ever did... [C]

Christy Hemme interviewed Rob Van Dam backstage. She asked about the ECW Invasion. He said he loved being back in the ring with them last week and that he was enjoying himself again. RVD said he did not know what Dixie was going to say, but was hoping it had something to do with the ECW guys coming back...

Tenay and Taz argued over whether Dixie owed everyone an explanation over what happened last week. They recapped the past few weeks of ECW alumni appearances and last week's brawl...

Dixie made the backstage, about to go to commercial, walk... [C]

[Q8] Dixie Carter made her way to the ring with "No Chance in Hell" as her theme music. Oh wait, that is Vince McMahon. Dixie said TNA had the best fans in the world and the company would be about the fans. She said she actually responds to the fans on Twitter and Facebook.

She said the fans love hardcore wrestling. She called out the ECW Five. Foley said it was Dixie's first promo. Dixie said what Hulk Hogan meant to wrestling in the 80s, these men meant to ECW and wrestling in the 90s.

Twill's Two Cents: That's great and everything, but Hogan is a huge part of the show and now the ECW guys are back for a pay-per-view, in 2010.

Dixie thanked the men in the ring from the bottom of her heart. Foley thanked Dixie for giving them all a second chance to make a last impression. He then called Tommy Dreamer a great ambassador for the business.

Dreamer took the mic and cut a name dropping, but very good promo. He said Taz was doing what Samoa Joe is doing back in ECW. What Ric Flair did for Jay Lethal, Terry Funk did for Dreamer and Foley. Before The Beautiful People, there was Francine and Beulah McGillicutty.

Dreamer said he had closure at One Night Stand 2005, "Then they brought it back." He started to cry. He said he couldn't stomach what they did and for everyone that lost their jobs, he had to quit himself.

This was not about an ECW Invasion. Dreamer begged Dixie for one night so the ECW legacy could live forever. He asked the fans if they wanted one night. Dixie asked the crowd and then said yes under one condition. They plan everything out and it has nothing to do with TNA.

The crowd chanted for Sabu. Dreamer said, "Impact Zone? We're going extreme!" He hugged Dixie and the show went off the air...

Twill's Two Cents: Dreamer is still getting teary-eyed about the old ECW and frankly, it still makes for good television. I am officially on board with seeing this for one night. Admittedly, I highly doubt it can match ONS 2005, but it will be cool to see these guys again, if only for a night.

Thank you for following along with me tonight. I'll be back tomorrow with the TNA Impact Hitlist.
