6/10 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Kurt Angle returns to the ring, Styles, Wolfe, and Beer Money vs. Hardy, Anderson, Lethal, and Abyss
Jun 10, 2010 - 10:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fla.

[Q1] Footage of Mr. Anderson opened the show, followed by highlights of Jay Lethal being victorious last week and Ric Flair sending A.J. Styles home. RVD and Samoa Joe went nose to nose at the end of last week's show...

Tonight's show is entitled "A Flair for the Dramatics." Fireworks lit up the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay and Taz welcomed us to the show. They hyped Sting vs. RVD at Slammiversary and Kurt Angle wrestling tonight...

A.J. Styles led Desmond Wolfe, Kazarian, and Beer Money to the ring. No sign of Flair. Styles said Flair was not there, so he would take charge of the situation. Kazarian wasn't down with that but Beer Money nodded in agreement.

Styles said they were in an eight man tag tonight, but there were five of them in the ring. He said things don't work with five. He mentioned the Beatles, the fantastic four, and the Four Horsemen. He kicked Kazarian out but they just bickered.

Flair's music hit and Jay Lethal came out to the stage. Lethal absolutely nailed the Flair impression. Styles argued with Lethal. Lethal took off his sport coat and elbowed it. Great stuff. He then began to introduce his team for the night. Abyss was first.

Mr. Anderson came out next. Styles said his group would beat the crap out of them. The babyfaces charged the ring and were outnumbered. Jeff Hardy helped to even things up and send the heels up the ramp...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun opening segment. Lethal is damn impressive imitating Flair. The odd back and forth between Styles and Kazarian makes Kazarian look like a tool. He should be going after Styles, not just taking what he says about him. Nice setup for a solid main tonight.

Brian Kendrick was caught on Hervey cam talking about his greater purpose. He was in TNA to win the X Division Championship and then give that belt a purpose... [C]

[Q2] 1. Brian Kendrick defeated Homicide in 6:44. Douglas Williams joined the announce booth. Homicide overpowered Kendrick early in the match. He hit a nice t-bone suplex for a nearfall. He hit a Michinoku Driver for a very nearfall.

Kendrick came back and knocked Homicide to the stage. He then rammed Homicide's head into the ramp multiple times. Homicide found a hammer and screwdriver. The referee stopped him and Kendrick hit an awkward looking kick for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Good and very physical match. Kendrick did most of the bumping which made Homicide look like an absolute beast. The finishing kick looked weak, but other than that, good stuff.

Backstage, Brother Ray and Jesse Neal were brawling to the point of needing to be pulled apart by multiple security guards...

[Q3] Ink Inc. were in the ring. Neal called for Brother Ray. Ray and Devon made their way out to the ring...

Twill's Two Cents: Terry Taylor is in the ring with everyone. I wonder if the mohawks on Ink Inc. give him happy memories of his Red Rooster.

Ray said Jesse Neal became too cocky and thought his head was too big. He called Neal a failure in the Navy and at Slammiversary, he would be a failure in the ring as well. Ray called Shannon Moore a bitch. Moore called Ray a douchebag and Devon a puppet.

Devon gave Moore a pass. He said Neal received an automatic pass because they trained him. He turned to Brother Ray and said he needed to get his head on straight. Devon left. Bubba hit Neal from behind and hurried the hell out of there... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Solid mic work by Brother Ray. This feud doesn't do a whole lot for me, but it was a decent segment.

Never before seen footage of Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting from Sacrifice was shown. Jarrett bled more there than all of the WWE roster combined in 2010. Tenay said he called every one of Jarrett's TNA matches and never saw him take this bad of a beating.

Twill's Two Cents: It was funny to me that Sting still pinned Jarrett. With that anger and hatred, he still thought logically enough to get the three count. I didn't realize you can be unconscious when a match officially begins. By the way, could Hulk Hogan have come out any later than he did?

[Q4] Tenay hyped Jarrett commenting tonight about that attack from his house in Tennessee...

Backstage, Eric Bischoff, Miss Tessmacher, and Matt Morgan discussed Morgan's tag team partner. Bischoff teased Hernandez without saying his name. Morgan McGillicutty couldn't grasp the fact Hernandez was there... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Morgan saw him last week, so should he really be that shocked? Come on now.

Jarrett commented from his house about Sting's attack on him. He was wearing a sling on his left arm. Jarrett said he would get his revenge, but not anytime soon. Jarrett said Slammiversary means more to him than any other PPV and he will be watching from home...

Matt Morgan made his entrance and awaited his partner. Hulk Hogan's music hit and he came out to the stage. Hogan called Morgan a crybaby. Hernandez, with some new ink, was introduced by Hogan.

Hernandez hit the ring and started beating the crap out of Morgan. This was supposed to be a World Tag Team Championship match. Hernandez kept beating on his partner as Hogan told Tenay and Taz Hernandez could have been number one or two in the Top Ten Rankings...

Twill's Two Cents: Hernandez made the best of his time away because he is cut. Glad to see he worked his ass off to get in better shape because it showed.

[Q5] Hogan booked Morgan vs. Hernandez for the pay-per-view. Morgan was put on a board but the Wolfpac music hit. Hall, Nash, and Young made their way to the ring. Hall and Young wore the belts. Hall looked out of it...

2. Eric Young and Scott Hall (with Kevin Nash) defeated Matt Morgan and Hernandez to retain the TNA Tag Team Championships in :14. Young pinned Morgan while he was on the board...

Backstage, Christy Hemme interviewed Rob Van Dam. Sting attacked RVD from behind and walked away with his belt... [C]

A replay recapped the footage of Sting attacking RVD from behind. Van Dam was shown recuperating with people around him. When he realized his belt was gone, he left to go retrieve it...

Kurt Angle made his way to the ring. A "Welcome back!" chant serenaded him. Angle said he had a match with Kazarian, "a very good X Division wrestler," at Slammiversary, so he invited his friend, Amazing Red, the best X Division wrestler on the planet, to face him...

3. Kurt Angle defeated Amazing Red in 3:44.They shook hands. Red impressed in an early Irish whip sequence which forced Angle to slow things down. He did so and hit a released overhead belly to belly suplex. Red came back with a hurricarana on the floor.

[Q6] Angle attempted an Angle Slam but Red countered it into a DDT. He followed with an enzuigiri. He then a sweet looking springboard DDT all in one motion. Angle barely kicked out. Red then hit a hurricarana with Angle on his knees. He missed a top rope move and Angle hit the Angle Slam for the win...

After the match, Angle helped Red up and raised his hand...

Twill's Two Cents: That was a very good four minute match. No way that pace could have been kept up for too long, but that is as good of a short match you are going to see.

Sting was talking backstage and doing something to the belt. He revealed that he wrote "Deception" on it. He said that is what the belt represents right now. He said it was show time... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: That was a creepy promo by Sting and I liked it. There is no way he wins on Sunday, but they are doing everything they can to make Sting look unbeatable heading into Slammiversary.

A Slammiversary video played with old and current footage. Dixie stated TNA has grown one fan at a time. Hulk Hogan expressed gratitude and happiness from being in TNA. Additional comments from Angle, RVD, and Sting aired. The top matches were shown in graphics...

RVD was shown walking through the backstage area looking for Sting. He went up the stairs to the rafters... [C]

[Q7] A.J. Styles' music hit and Styles, Wolfe, and Beer Money made their way to the ring. Style, Wolfe, and Storm all put up the four fingers. Abyss, Chelsea, Jay Lethal, Mr. Anderson, and Jeff Hardy all came out to Hardy's music...

4. A.J. Styles, Desmond Wolfe, and Beer Money Inc. defeated Jeff Hardy, Mr. Anderson, Abyss (with Chelsea), and Jay Lethal in 10:49. Lethal and Roode began the match. The babyface team had the advantage early on as they made frequent tags. Wolfe gained the advantage for his team and tagged in Styles.

A.J. dropped a knee on Hardy and scored a nearfall. Hardy continued to take a lot of punishment from the heel team. The referee couldn't keep illegal men out of the ring. Hardy tagged Lethal, but the referee didn't see it, so Hardy remained in the match.

[Q8] Hardy hit a jawbreaker and a mule kick before finally tagging Lethal. Lethal cleaned house hot tag style. Everyone started hitting a big move and then taking a big move. Storm kicked Anderson hard in the face. Wolfe ended up hitting his lariat finisher on Abyss.

Wolfe called for Chelsea to give him a chair and she reluctantly did. Abyss punched the chair into the head of Wolfe. Styles took out Abyss with a springboard flying forearm. Lethal tried a springboard move but Styles countered it with the Styles Clash for the win...

After the match, the crew in the ring held up the four fingers again...

Twill's Two Cents: Slow for long periods, but very impressive in short stints. I'm actually surprised Styles got the pin here because it seemed as though he was going to have a losing streak. I don't know what to make of the four fingers gesture just yet. Sure, I would like a similar type of group, but I dislike the idea of actually using the Horsemen name.

Sting cut a weird ass promo and showed off his Deception Heavyweight Championship belt. He said he would be waiting right there for "Robbie" because it was show time... [C]

RVD was looking for Sting, but Sting found him instead. He continued the ass whipping from earlier in the show. Van Dam held his own though and ended up giving Sting a beating. Sting regained the nod though and brought RVD out into the actual arena.

Van Dam punched Sting until he ended up back into the ring. RVD removed his belt from Sting's waist. Sting went down in the corner and I think I know what is coming. Okay maybe not. He wedged the chair in the corner.

Unfortunately for RVD, Sting rammed his head into that chair he set up. Sting picked up the belt. He then gave it back to RVD. That belt gets around more than Missy Hyatt. Sting said it was RVD's belt until Sunday. He walked away with a cocky smirk on his face while RVD recovered...

Twill's Two Cents: That was an awful lot to give away on a PPV go-home show between the two men main eventing Slammiversary. I didn't hate the segment. I didn't love it either. This show wasn't quite as good as last week's, but it was not a bad show either.
