2/18 Twilling's TNA Impact Live Coverage: Against All Odds pay-per-view fallout, A.J. Styles and Ric Flair comment on Styles defeating Samoa Joe, D'Angelo Dinero addresses being the new number one contender for the TNA Championship
Feb 18, 2010 - 10:00 PM

TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, Fl.

[Q1] Eric Bischoff exited a limousine and was on the phone. He told the person on the other end that TNA was a better place to work for than that "cesspool he is used to working for." He ended the call and said, "Let the games begin." ...

Highlights were shown of the Against All Odds pay-per-view. D'Angelo Dinero won the Eight Man Stud tournament. Bischoff reluctantly counted the three for A.J. Styles beating Samoa Joe. Hulk Hogan and Dixie were shown making comments about the move to Monday nights. Tonight's show is entitled "Lord of the Ring." ...

Twill's Two Cents: By the way, Jason Powell is discussing TNA Impact with Dot Net Members in the forum throughout the show tonight. You can get in on the fun by signing up for full membership for just five bucks per month via the Dot Net Members' Signup Page.

The opening video aired and D'Angelo Dinero opened the show with an in ring promo. Pope had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He said he defied the odds at Against All Odds and was the number one contender. He said "Arthur, I have no class Jackson" and "Dick Flair" stood in his way. He declared he would win the title.

Flair, Styles, and four hoes came out to the ring. Flair asked Pope if he could read or write. He pointed out he was wearing an Armani suit and Pope idolized him as a kid. He said Styles was the greatest wrestling machine ever and was the greatest athlete in the world. Pope said, "Your name might be Ric, but in Pope's eyes, you are still a dick."

Flair called Pope a common street thug. Styles jumped in and yelled that he was the champion and Pope was nothing. Pope said he was on Styles like white on rice, and he attacked him. Flair and Styles double teamed Pope. They put his ankle in a chair and stomped it. Styles applied the figure four.

Twill's Two Cents: At this point, I'd be cool with Styles never saying a word and Flair doing all of his talking for him. I still like Styles as Flair's guy and a heel, but he should let Flair do the talking. Kudos to TNA for allowing Pope to open the show with a long promo, because he definitely delivered. The beatdown kicked off the program very well.

[Q2] Mike Tenay and Taz checked in on commentary and commented on the replay of Styles and Flair possibly breaking Pope's ankle. They mentioned again that the show would be moving to Monday nights on March 8th. Tenay said a former TNA Champion was returning tonight on Impact...

1. Tara defeated Daffney by disqualification in a non-title match in 2:23. Tara wrestled in a t-shirt. She took it off about a minute into the match. Daffney threw Tara to the floor and hit her with a toolbox from under the ring. The referee disqualified Daffney.

After the match, Daffney continued the beating. She put a guardrail over Tara and hit it repeatedly with a chair. Dr. Stevie came out and pulled Daffney out of there...

Twill's Two Cents: Interesting. They just made Daffney relevant, so let's see what how they follow up on this.

Mick Foley went to see Eric Bischoff. Bischoff commended Foley for giving his all at the pay-per-view. Bischoff had tailors in the room and they started taking Foley's measurements. Bischoff said they were going to give Foley a makeover.

After Foley left, Bischoff called someone and told that person to get Abyss to his office right away... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Solid backstage segment with Foley and Bischoff. Bischoff's character just gets more and more intriguing as the weeks go by.

[Q3] Kevin Nash was shown arriving at the building and he was pissed...

Orlando Jordan made his entrance and no, they did not show the kisses. Samoa Joe was introduced, but he did not come out right away. Eric Bischoff was yelling at him backstage. He told Joe "I dare you to impress me." Joe then made his entrance...

2. Orlando Jordan (with a guy and a girl) defeated Samoa Joe in 3:24. Joe dominated early on but Jordan hit a nice spinebuster. Joe regained the advantage and beat on Jordan in the corner. Jordan, from the ropes, hit what could best be described as a tornado reverse Codebreaker for the clean win...

Twill's Two Cents: Never mind the kiss not being shown, let's look at Jordan beating Joe clean in three minutes. What the hell? When Hogan first came in, I'm sure someone who was not in favor of Hogan coming in would have made the joke, "I'm sure Orlando Jordan will beat Samoa Joe in three minutes." Everyone else would have responded, "That's ridiculous." Well, it just happened. Look for a Joe vs. Bischoff feud.

Joe looked stunned that he lost and they immediately cut to the back. Abyss was freaking out and he asked JB if he knew what Bischoff wanted. Borash wasn't sure... [C]

During the break, the Motor City Machine Guns discussed who the returning champion would be. Alex Shelley said he thought it would be Petey Williams...

In his office, Bischoff told Abyss he told him what he was going to do if Abyss did not use the bat. Eric said he was in charge because Hogan was away taking care of other business. He told Abyss to take off the mask. Abyss begged Bischoff not to do it. Bischoff told Abyss not to try and leave the building because security was notified...

Twill's Two Cents: That was a little much for me. By keeping Abyss in the building, they are kidnapping him. I know the violence in wrestling matches and other attacks is part of the show, but telling Abyss he has to stay in the building is pushing logic a little far. I am interested to see him unmasked though.

Christy Hemme interviewed Eric Young. Young said Kevin Nash had some things to say, but he wasn't going to do it in the back. He wanted to talk to Scott Hall and Syxx Pac face to face...

Highlights were shown of Hulk Hogan making the announcement about Impact moving to Monday nights... [C]

[Q4] Eric Bischoff entered Jeff Jarrett's "locker room" with Foley's barb wire bat. Bischoff put Jarrett in a match with Abyss and ordered him to use the bat. Jarrett reluctantly agreed...

3. Kazarian, Amazing Red, and Generation Me defeated Doug Williams, Brian Kendrick, and the Motor City Machine Guns in 4:08. Kazarian was revealed as the returning champion. I guess the Guns are heels now. The Guns and Generation Me both used double team moves early on and gave a preview of what a program between the two teams would look like.

Red impressed in the ring with Shelley. He then caught Williams with a big kick. With everyone in the ring, Generation Me hit suicide dives while Red hit a top rope flip dive. The finish came when Kazarian hit a springboard into a DDT...

Twill's Two Cents: If you blinked, you missed it. It would have been more effective for the X Division if they would have let everyone shine for a moment and allow the announcers to point it out. It was entertaining, but too much happened too quickly. That being said, the division is not short on talent and this match showed that.

Abyss was shown trying to leave the building. Slick Johnson stopped him and told him he had a match. Johnson and Abyss did not know who the match was against, so I guess neither of them are watching the show... [C]

[Q5] 4. Jeff Jarrett vs. Abyss ended in a no contest in 11:52. Jarrett came out with the bat and did not have any entrance music. Slow pace early on with both men feeling each other out. Jarrett hit an impressive standing dropkick. Jarrett closelined Abyss to the floor. Jarrett set up a chair, but Abyss put Jarrett face first through it.

Abyss threw the chair into the ring and wedged it in the corner. Abyss moved the bat and rolled Jarrett back into the ring. They both hit closelines and were down. Bischoff came out to watch. Jarrett locked eyes with Bischoff and Bischoff had a half smile on his face in regards to Jarrett using the bat... [C]

Abyss hit a side suplex just as they came back from the break. Jarrett kicked out of a pinfall attempt after a chokeslam. Jarrett hit the Stroke, and then hit another one through the wedged chair. Bischoff mouthed "Do it now" to Jarrett.

Jarrett picked up the bat, looked at Bischoff, and threw the bat to the ground. Bischoff said he knew he couldn't trust Jarrett. He called to the back and Raven, Homicide, Tomko, Rhino, and Desmond Wolfe came down and attacked both Abyss and Jarrett.

[Q6] Just as Bischoff was going to unmask Abyss, Hulk Hogan's music hit and the roof blew off the place. Hogan entered the ring and told Bischoff, "I've got this one." He looked at Abyss and said, "Get your ass back to my office." Abyss took off and Hogan followed closely behind. Bischoff looked concerned... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Hot segment. The match itself was decent and of course was about the bigger picture. Jarrett not using the bat was predictable but well done. Bischoff being interrupted by Hogan was a little less predictable and also very well done. Good segment all the way around.

Abyss was shown walking through the backstage area with security flanking him...

5. Beer Money defeated Rob Terry and Brutus Magnus in 2:47. They showed still photos of Terry winning the Global Championship. After knocking Terry to the floor, Beer Money hit the DWI on Magnus for the win...

After the match, Magnus berated Terry and called him a disgrace to the British Invasion. He said he was Terry's superior and slapped him. He then took his belt, but Terry closelined him, grabbed the belt, and received a modest pop...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice win for Beer Money. They could have gotten some mileage out of Terry vs. Magnus if they gave it a couple of weeks. Let Magnus beat him down for awhile and then have Terry turn babyface, and he might get over. Just a thought.

Kevin Nash was shown backstage. He will talk face to face with Scott Hall and Syxx Pac tonight... [C]

[Q7] Hogan yelled at Abyss in his office. He said he was sick and tired of Abyss shaking and chasing his own tail. He asked Abyss if he was a monster. "Yes sir, I am a monster." Hogan gave Abyss a tough love pep talk. He ordered Abyss to never back down again.

Hogan showed Abyss his Hall of Fame ring. He said he killed his body for wrestling. He put the ring in Abyss' hand and said he now had all of the power in the universe. He said Abyss would be the God of wrestling. He said he would be greater than anyone walking the face of the Earth. Abyss acted like a overzealous man child. He put the ring on and screamed repeatedly...

Twill's Two Cents: Wow, that was straight out of the 80s. I guess if WWE can do what they do with The Undertaker, then Hulkamania can be the strongest force in the universe in 2010. That wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure that will get Abyss over.

6. Kurt Angle defeated Daniels in 1:07. Angle applied the ankle lock and won the match. Short and sweet...

Twill's Two Cents: That was disappointing. I like that Angle got his win back, but did they have to bury Daniels.

Angle grabbed the mic and addressed Mr. Anderson. He said Anderson beat him, but what pissed him off was what Anderson did with his tag. He explained what a military tag was and what it did. Angle said his tag meant a lot to him. He said he went through a tough divorce and shamed his kids by getting arrested.

Angle said he was accused of things he didn't do, but he was still arrested. He teared up. He said he prayed in jail and after he got out, he went to an Army base in Texas and met some soldiers. He spoke of one man who said, "I believe in you," and gave him his dog tag. He read the inscription, entitled "Warrior" on the dog tag.

The crowd chanted "USA." He said when Anderson used the tag on him, he made soldiers, soldiers' families, and U.S. citizens bleed. He said Anderson spit on the United States of America when he spit on the dog tag. He said he would make Anderson bleed every last drop of blood for doing that.

[Q8] Angle said he would see Mr. Anderson in hell. Anderson's music hit, and it actually sounds like Angle's at the beginning a bit, and he walked out to the stage... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: A promo like that is usually a little to sugary sweet for this day and age, but I liked it. Angle can get away with talking about American pride and sound genuine while doing so. I like that they are establishing a feud for Angle to keep him away from the title while still keeping him at the top of the card.

Anderson, wearing an old school 75th anniversary Brett Favre jersey, mocked Angle's promo and was a complete smartass. He said he made Angle bleed and he likes to make people bleed. He told Angle to come get some.

Angle approached Anderson and they exchanged punches. Anderson punched Angle's wound repeatedly, knocking him to the ground. He laid down next to Angle and welcomed Kurt to "Total Nonstop Anderson..... Anderson." ... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Angle got beat down pretty easily there. Hey, it made Anderson look like a million bucks, so it worked, but I hope Angle regains his badass persona.

JB tried to get comments from a dejected Samoa Joe as he was leaving the building. Joe had nothing to say. A van pulled up and three masked men jumped out, abducted Joe, and threw him in the van. The van then drove away...

Twill's Two Cents: Wow, did we really just see that?

Kevin Nash and Eric Young made their entrance. Nash cut a promo in the ring into a very up close camera. Nash said eighteen years ago, he chose Hall and Waltman to be his friends. He also bought a black suit ten years ago because he knew he was going to put one of them into the ground.

He said he wasn't sure what was worse, the broken bones or broken hearts. He said he has pulled strings to keep them employed for years and wasn't going to do it anymore. He said he was the big, grey haired son of a bitch waiting for them in the ring.

[Overrun] Hall and Waltman came through the crowd. Eric Young went to the floor and brawled with Waltman. In the ring, Nash and Hall went face to face. They exchanged punches but security stepped in between them. Hogan came out to the top of the ramp. Nash said, "Next week, it's on" to Hall...

Twill's Two Cents: They ended last week's show with two promo segments and they decided to do it again this week, again finishing the show with The Band and Hogan (amongst others). Maybe Eric Young will get a rub out of this. I like The Band and am interested in all of these guys, but not in the main event every week. These should not be the guys closing out the show.
