5/11 TNA Sacrifice PPV: Kurt Angle injured and unable to face Samoa Joe and Scott Steiner, a TNA Knockout has her head shaved, TerrorDome debuts

Live from Orlando, Fla.

A video featured Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner discussing their desire to be TNA Champion, and Samoa Joe saying no one is going to take the belt from him...

Outside the building at "7:07 p.m. (ET)," Jeremy Borash greeted Kurt Angle's limo as it arrived at the building. Borash said Angle said his surgeon Dr. Jho doesn't want him to wrestle on the pay-per-view. He said he has to listen to his doctor this time. He said he's not 25 years-old anymore and he can't wrestle as much as he wants to...

Outside the building at "7:27 p.m." one of the interview women greeted Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Petey Williams, and Rhaka Khan as their limo arrived at the building. Steiner said he wouldn't believe Angle wouldn't wrestle until the match started. Suddenly, Kevin Nash emerged from the other side of Steiner's limo...

"Minutes ago," Borash greeted Samoa Joe as has limo arrived at the show. Joe said he was sorry that Angle wouldn't be able to wrestle, especially since he wasn't the one who put him on the shelf. Borash asked about Nash riding in Steiner's limo, but Joe walked away...

Powell's POV: In case you missed it, Angle suffered an injury in Korea that prevented him from wrestling in the house show matches over the weekend. He has been telling people that he'll wrestle tonight, but I guess we'll find out. The interviews outside the building were well done. They could have provided more information regarding Angle's injury, though. It felt like they just assumed that everyone had heard.

Mike Tenay and Don West introduced the show from ringside...

1. Team 3D defeated Sting and James Storm (w/Jacqueline) to advance in the tag team tournament. Storm ticked off Sting by sitting the corner and drinking beer while Sting was wrestling at one point during the match. Team 3D set up a table inside the ring. They stared at Sting, but then Storm came up behind them and encouraged them to attack Sting. Team 3D moved aside. Sting press slammed Storm through the table and Team 3D got the win.

Powell's POV: The slam through the table was really ugly as Storm fell short of it. Sting reacted like he knew he messed up.

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Frank Trigg, who said Angle tried to run through some drills but decided he just couldn't go. He also discussed main event strategy and predicted that Joe would win in a really good match. He said he was a little bit off because he was more concerned with Angle's injuries than Joe vs. Steiner...

Powell's POV: Another nice promo by Trigg, who is already one of TNA's better talkers.

2. Christian Cage and Rhino defeated Robert Roode and Booker T to advance in the tag tournament. Booker and Roode are a wild card team and the story is that they didn't know they'd be partners until they were introduced. They bickered before the match. In the end, Rhino gored Roode for the win.

Afterward, Booker glared into the ring while kneeling at ringside. A frustrated Booker entered the ring and eventually shook hands with Christian and Rhino. Booker left the ring, but then grabbed a chair and attacked Christian and Rhino with it. He left both of them lying in the ring...

Powell's POV: The announcers did a good job of pointing out that the attack could come back to haunt Christian and Rhino since they have two more matches to go in order to win the tournament.

Backstage, Borash stood by while Steiner promised Nash that he'd give him the first title shot if he helped him beat Joe for the title. Nash said he'd think about it and then shook Nash's hand before he left the room...

3. LAX (w/Hector Guerrero) defeated Matt Morgan and Kip James in a tag tournament match. Morgan tried to hit Hernandez with a big boot, but Hernandez moved and Morgan's boot caught James. Hernandez dropkicked Morgan out of the ring and then pinned James...

Backstage, Borash interviewed A.J. Styles, who talked about his tag tournament match. Kurt Angle stormed into the picture, shoved A.J., and demanded to know whether Styles was seeing his wife. They bickered briefly and then Styles stormed away...

Powell's POV: Keep in mind that this was the same Kurt who was moving gingerly in the limo scene earlier in the show. Suddenly, he's shoving Styles and acting like he's fine. I suppose you could call it adrenaline, but it seemed silly given what they're trying to get across with the Angle storyline.

4. Super Eric and A.J. Styles defeated Awesome Kong (w/Raisha Saeed) and B.G. James in 5:00 to advance in the tag tournament. James started the match, but Kong tagged in early on and locked up with Styles. He pushed her back into the corner, but she shoved him back. A.J. wound up to punch her, but he held back. She responded with a spinning back fist. Cool.

Later, Kong grabbed Styles by the balls for a pop from the crowd. She tagged James back into the match. She tagged back in a short time later and went for the Awesome Bomb, but A.J. slipped out and tried to roll her up. Kong sat down on A.J. for a nearfall. Later, Super Eric slammed Kong onto James. In the end, Styles caught James with a small package for the pin.

Powell's POV: Fun match. Kong was protected, yet not at the expense of the male wrestlers. I didn't think she looked out of place. It was a fun novelty gimmick. I wouldn't want to see it on a regular basis, but they could probably build up a match between Kong and Styles.

The announcers filled time at ringside by hyping the women's battle royal while the TerrorDome cage was set up...

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Rick Steiner. She said everyone was shocked he was there. I guess she's not a TNA mobile subscriber. He said he was there to support his brother. He barked and she looked at him like he was nuts... A video teased the TerrorDome...

Before the TerrorDome match, Jim Cornette walked onto the stage and announced that the winner of the match would replace Kurt Angle in the main event later tonight...

Powell's POV: I'm guessing the winner of the match gets to get his ass kicked by Angle later in the show, but that's just a guess. I hope it's not Black Machismo because the thrill is gone if this live crowd's reaction is any indication.

5. Kaz defeated Black Machismo, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Curry Man, Shark Boy, Consequences Creed, Johnny Devine, Jimmy Rave and Sonjay Dutt in a TerrorDome match in 11:00. The TerrorDome is a a six-sided cage that's similar to the old WWE blue cage. There's a domed roof on top and the goal is to escape the cage through a hole in the middle of the dome. They aired an unintentionally hilarious shot of Rudy Charles kneeling on top of the dome waiting to declare a winner.

The match featured some big spots and the crowd was really into the action. Really, though, the big spots were just standard X Division spots, so it's not like the cage gimmick added a lot to the match. In the end, Kaz stopped Devine from up the dome and then climbed out himself to win the match.

Powell's POV: I was really hoping that Curry Man was going to win the match an unmask as Christopher Daniels. I'm sure Kaz will deliver a quality match if Angle sits out, but this would have been a fun way to reintroduce Daniels.

Backstage, Borash interviewed Samoa Joe about Kaz being added to the match. Joe said Kaz is a good competitor and deserves a shot in the match, but he's still confident that he'll retain the title. Borash asked about Nash. Joe flipped out on Borash and said he doesn't know where Nash is or what he's thinking. He warned that Nash would regret it if he turned on him...

6. Team 3D defeated Christian Cage and Rhino in a tag tournament semifinal match in 10:00. Cage and Rhino sold their chairshot injuries early in the match. Johnny Devine walked out with a kendo stick, which figured into the finish. Brother used it on Rhino behind the ref's back and scored the pin. Afterward, Ray celebrated with one of the tag belts at ringside.

Powell's POV: Slow match and the crowd never really got into it. I'm guessing that Ray celebrating with one of the tag belts means his team won't win the tournament. By the way, the addition of Kaz to the main event match makes me think Angle will sit out since Kaz is the type of wrestler they would add to insure that the match will be entertaining.

7. LAX (w/Hector Guerrero, Salinas) defeated A.J. styles and Eric Young in a tag tournament semifinal match in 7:30. Homicide won an early test of strength with Super Eric, so at least they didn't take that cheesy gimmick that far. Late in the match, Styles rolled up Homicide, but Hector ran in behind the ref's back and rolled them over so Homicide got the win...

Powell's POV: Nothing special there. The live crowd isn't doing them any favors. Here's hoping they book all future pay-per-views outside Orlando.

Backstage, Lauren interviewed members of Joe's family, who said they had his back and would fight for him. The skinnier one spoke in Samoan and concluded with something that sounded like "f--- yo' ma." He didn't really say that, but it sure sounded like it... A shot aired of Billy Corgan sitting at ringside...

A video hyped the TNA Knockouts battle royal...

8. Gail Kim defeated Roxxi Laveaux in a TNA Makeover Battle Royal/Ladder match at 9:30. The match started as a 10-woman battle royal with the following elimination order: Salinas, Velvet Sky, Brooks, Hemme, Khan, Jacqueline, ODB, and Love.

With the battle royal aspect of the match complete, it shifted to a ladder match between Kim and Roxxi. The referees made Love stay at ringside because she finished in third. Kim won immunity in a match on Impact, so the rule was that if she finished in second place, the third place finisher would have her head shaved. In the end, Love interfered on Kim's behalf so that she wouldn't have to get her own head shaved.

Afterward, Kim realized what happened and fought with Love and Sky. Roxxi joined in, but she eventually took her seat and had her head shaved. She suffered a cut on her head during the match, so her head was a bloody mess. The crowd chanted "Fire Russo" and took other verbal jabs while she was getting her head shaved. However, they chanted Roxxi's name when she stood up and showed off her bald head for the first time...

Backstage, Nash entered Joe's locker room with Borash. Nash said he was using his brain and pumping Steiner for info. Joe flipped and said he didn't need or trust Nash. Big Kev took a seat and said he'd watch the match from there unless Joe gave him a sign. He said he might show up and he might not if Joe gave him the sign. Joe told Nash that he'd assume he was an enemy if he came to ringside...

A shot aired of Saving Abel sitting at ringside...

9. LAX (w/Hector Guerrero, Salinas) beat Team 3D in the tournament final for the TNA Tag Titles in 11:30. LAX sold early on and the announcers tried to build up Team 3D as the dominant team. Later, Hernandez dove over the top onto both 3D members. Johnny Devine ran out with a kendo stick again. He swung at Hector, who ducked and worked over Devine. Hector placed Devine on a table at ringside, climbed to the top rope, and then came down feet first and drove Devine through the table.

Inside the ring, Brother Ray referred to Hernandez as a "Puerto Rican piece of trash." Moments later, Team 3D hit 3D on Homicide and had the pin, but the ref wouldn't count it because he wasn't the legal man. This confused the hell out of Don West for a few seconds.

Later, Devon stood on the second rope and punched Homicide. Hernandez snuck up from behind and caught Devon with the Border Toss. Homicide followed up with the Frogsplash for the win. West referred to the finishing move as the "Five Star Frogsplash" while calling the replay...

Powell's POV: Hector looked less than comfortable performing the top rope move. He was slow to get up. There was nothing particularly memorable about the match or the tournament beyond Awesome Kong's appearance.

Eric Young approached the announcers at ringside. He pointed out that the next pay-per-view is in Memphis (well, close to it anyways) and noted that Elvis lived there. He said he was going to find Elvis and have him in his corner at the next pay-per-view...

Backstage shots aired of the three wrestlers in the main event as they made their way to the ring... Frank Trigg joined the announcers on commentary for the main event... A Samoa Joe video aired... They did the in-ring introductions for the title match...

10. Samoa Joe defeated Scott Steiner (w/Petey Williams, Rhaka Khan) and Kaz in a three-way match at 14:30 to retain the TNA Title. Joe worked he like was above his opponents early on. He watched nonchalantly when Kaz rolled up Steiner, and then he simply walked out of the way when Kaz went for a cross-body block off the top rope. Later, Joe sold an injury at ringside while Kaz played the rag doll role for Steiner's power moves.

At 9:00, Joe went for a suicide dive on Steiner at ringside, but Steiner was waiting and struck him with his lead pipe. Kaz then dove onto Steiner at ringside. Later, with all three wrestlers back in the ring, Petey pulled Kaz off the top rope and Steiner hit the Frankensteiner on Kaz off the top rope. Joe broke up Steiner's pin attempt at the last second.

At 13:40, Kaz set up Steiner for the Flux Capacitor off the top rope, but Steiner outmuscled him and pushed him off the top rope and fell on top of him for a nearfall. The crowd didn't really buy into it even thought it was a well done spot. Kaz came back and went for his finisher on Steiner again, but Steiner grabbed him and tossed him to ringside. With Steiner still sitting on the top rope, Joe grabbed him and delivered the Musclebuster for the clean pinfall...

Powell's POV: Kaz tried hard, but no one considered him a serious threat to the TNA Title, nor were many people buying into the possibility of Steiner pinning Kaz to win the belt. Kaz was there to make the match better and he succeeded in that regard. Trigg was very good on commentary again. The focus now turns to Kurt Angle's injury, as it must be significant in order for him to miss a pay-per-view main event. I'll have more to say about the show tomorrow in the TNA Sacrifice Hitlist.
