TNA's Samoa Joe conference call recap: Joe discusses his contract status, comments on his Lockdown match with Kurt Angle
Apr 10, 2008 - 01:42 PM

Samoa Joe was featured in the Spike TV/TNA monthly conference call. The following are among the highlights.

-Joe said he hopes Sunday's match will be a pro wrestling match. He said Angle has been lobbying management for an MMA match, but at the end of the day it's still pro wrestling. He later said they will push the boundaries.

-Joe said he's reaching the end of his TNA contract they still have a few things to work out.

-He said he likes Kevin Nash a lot more now than he did the first time he met him.

-Joe said he's open to the idea of working with Scott Hall again. He hears he's making changes in his life.

-He identified A.J. Styles and Christopher Daniels as two of his favorite opponents. He also put over his past matches with Kenta Kobashi and Homicide.

-Joe admitted he's concerned that the crowd could sit on their hands if they go too far in the MMA direction. "But you have to take risks if you try something new. I know Kurt wants to try something new and I know I do."

-He said winning the TNA title would represent opportunity. He wants the opportunity to prove he can make Samoa Joe work in a national company.

-Joe said he feels physically better than he has in a long time. Some of the nagging injuries he had have gone away.

-Joe said it's not hard to be negotiating a contract and still perform at a high level. "Even though we're in a contract situation, that's still me out there and I take a tremendous amount of pride in my work."

-"I'm overly excited about the TNA video game," Joe said. He said he's never been a big fan of the WWE game and believes they've come up with a better product.

-Regarding the match stipulation that he has to leave pro wrestling if he loses on Sunday: "I was thinking about hiring myself out as a sparring partner around my neighborhood," Joe joked.

-Joe is open to working for New Japan or Pro Wrestling NOAH. He noted that he's worked for NOAH in the past, but added that TNA has a working relationship with New Japan.

-He said he isn't sure whether he would choose MMA or pro wrestling if he started over. He said all his friends probably would have influenced him to go the MMA route, but he loves pro wrestling.

-Joe put over The Briscoes and Nigel McGuinness as the wrestlers he would love to see in TNA. He also said he'd like to see Austin Aries and Roderick Strong back in TNA.

-He identified Booker T as someone on the TNA roster that he would love to face.

-Joe identified Frankie Kazarian and Curry Man as underutilized talents.

-He said he doesn't know if he'll ever appear in WWE. He said people who worked with him in ROH can testify to the fact that he's very loyal to the company he's with. "I'm very happy in TNA at this point, and I hope to continue that relationship into the future."
