Gail Kim was shocked when John Laurinaitis from WWE called to inform her that she had been released by WWE. "Johnny (Laurinaitis) called me and basically said that I was released," Kim tells the Baltimore Sun. "And then he just tried to hang up (laughs). I wasn't even upset; I was just in shock. I think I said, 'Hold on, hold on. Can I get a reason for this?' He just said that they wanted to change the direction of the women's division."

Kim also comments on the difference between the TNA and WWE women's divisions: "I think those girls are very hot and they look great and everything, but I think to succeed in this business you have to have the passion. A lot of girls that are in our company took it upon themselves to go get trained and learn about the business and pay their dues... We have characters and our own distinctive look. I think a lot of the time when you just see a lot of beautiful girls it kind of just all blends in together. You want something about yourself that stands out." Powell's POV: The WWE Divas division is a mess right now. They probably have just as much talent within their division as TNA with women such as Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, and Victoria. TNA's women's division might be a little deeper, but it's really built around Kim, Awesome Kong, and ODB.

The big difference between the two companies is that TNA is pushing the better wrestlers, while WWE places more of an emphasis on sex appeal. I've never been a fan of the company's decision to turn all of their Divas into wrestlers. Some people just aren't cut out to be wrestlers, but that doesn't mean they couldn't draw ratings as valets.
