TNA News: Returning TNA Tag Champion off to a rocky start in the locker room
Oct 23, 2009 - 12:37 PM

Former TNA Tag Champion Tomko was the subject of jokes in the locker room at the Impact tapings on Wednesday. He was backstage at both tapings and was the mystery man who attacked A.J. Styles in a pre-taped segment that aired on last night's show.

The running joke backstage on Wednesday was that Tomko's ego somehow grew despite what should have been a humbling experience with WWE. Wrestlers were rolling their eyes at Tomko for telling stories about his previous WWE run and how over he is. The feeling of many is that he is lucky to be getting a second chance with the company, and he needs to check his ego at the door if he wants to stick around for the long haul.

Powell's POV: I was happy to hear the news that Tomko was returning to TNA because he came so close to becoming a breakout star for the company during his last run. I don't recall the specific pay-per-view, but all the buildup suggested that he was going to turn babyface, only creative went with an ill-fated swerve that left Tomko heel and subsequently killed his momentum.

Multiple sources report that TNA creative team leader Vince Russo made the push to get Tomko back in the fold. As previously reported, the word backstage was that Tomko had not been offered a long-term deal, but it sounds like creative has multiple pay-per-view matches in mind for him if things work out.
