Gary Cantrell passed along the following recap of the premiere event of the "Main Event Mafia vs. Undead World Order" movie that was produced by WJFK radio.
It was a beautiful Thursday night in Fairfax as many people packed the Hard Times Café for the premiere of the Main Event Mafia vs. Undead World Order movie. For weeks, Chad Dukes of WJFK’s Big O and Dukes show had promised a spectacle and boy did they ever deliver. The event itself didn’t start until after 8 p.m. However, that didn’t stop the loyal fans of the popular midday show from packing Hard Times as soon as 6:30, before filing into the private room for the screening a bit after 7 p.m. Not only did loyal fans show up for the screening but a few notable names from WJFK such as radio legend Mike O’Meara of WJFK’s afternoon program The Mike O’Meara show, and Kevin “BDK” McCarthy who does the movie reviews for The Junkies morning program.
The event also saw such athletes as Domonique Foxworth of the Baltimore Ravens and MMA fighter Kris McCray show up for the premiere. Tanner Cooley, who is the brother of Washington Redskins star Chris Cooley, was also in attendance and makes a cameo in the film. Once everyone was settled in the festivities began as Oscar Santana, who hosts the Big O and Dukes show with Chad was the MC for the event and welcomed everyone to the premiere. Before the movie itself could get underway, everyone was reminded of the dominant Main Event Mafia and their various videos were shown of them getting the better of ones who tried to step in their way.
Following that montage, the crowd was treated to a few different videos of some familiar faces such as The Huntington Beach Bad Boy Tito Ortiz, MMA star Frank Trigg, and former WWE superstar Sean Morley, known by most as Val Venis, who all gave their props to the Main Event Mafia. The screens then cut to a “live” shot outside of Hard Times with the Mafia who was getting out of their limo, and proceeded to attack an injured man on crutches. The injured fellow was treated to equal beatings from all three of the Main Event Mafia members who then proceeded to enter the building.
At this point the lights go out, as the crowd packed inside of Hard Times begins to roar. The voice of Chris Warren (who performs the original entrance theme for WWE’s D-Generation X) is heard over the loudspeaker, and asks “Are You Ready?” and to which the crowd responds very positively as the music switches to “Break the Walls Down” which is the theme used by WWE’s Chris Jericho. The Main Event Mafia enters the room and poses for the fans before walking to their table right up in front of the big screen.
Chad Dukes, who plays the "Nash Dukes" character, climbed on top of the Mafia’s table and asks for a few cold beers and proceeds to smash them together and chug them down ala Stone Cold Steve Austin style. The Mafia then took their seats shortly after and the movie began. The movie picked up where the last video left off as the Main Event Mafia is still narrowing down the candidates in their search for the elusive “Mr. X.” As they discuss possibilities the lights go out and they discover that Zombies have infiltrated the halls of WJFK. At this point the battle between the Main Event Mafia and the Undead World Order is on and takes fans on a whirlwind thrill ride of an action spectacle which by the time the film ended left everyone on the edge of their seats.
Following the movie, I caught up with the Main Event Mafia who were thrilled at the response they were getting following the movie. “I’m glad everyone was able to pack the house. It really shows what the Main Event Mafia is all about,” said Kurt Schembechler. The MC of the evening, Oscar Santana also shared a comment about the movie. “It’s not just a wrestling movie, it’s more than that,” said Santana who was very pleased with the finished product.
All in all it was a great night for fans of the Main Event Mafia and the Big O and Dukes show. Chad, Oscar, and the rest of the WJFK staff continue to put on quality events and it shows with the dedication of the listeners who will come out to each and every event they put on. Once this movie reaches the General Public, I highly recommend that you check it out otherwise the Main Event Mafia might come and lay the smack down on you.
