TNA Slammiversary onsite report: Dixie Carter approaches fans to thank them, the crowd reaction to the main event finish and Sting attacking Bobby Roode afterward
Jun 11, 2012 - 04:48 PM

Dot Net reader Tom Lathroum attended the TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view in Arlington, Texas and sent the following report.

We arrived at about 5:15 – 15 minutes before doors were scheduled to open and there was already a good crowd gathered outside the arena with lots of "Yes" Chants breaking out.

After taking our seats on the floor near the entrance way, it was clear that both the arena and setup/stage were top notch. As I was checking out the stage, Dixie Carter came up, tapped me on the shoulder and thanked us for coming. She spent the next 45 minutes to an hour on the floor taking photos with fans and saying thank you – classy move.

At about 6:40, Jeremy Borash came out and got the crowd fired up, looking for the loudest section. The section opposite the hard camera in the middle started a "We are loudest" chant and won. By this point, it was obvious this was going to be a hot and large crowd. By 7 p.m. CST, the arena was packed. If it holds 7,000 there were about 6900 there – very few scattered empty seats.

Hulk Hogan came out to a huge reaction and a great/surprising start to the show for the live crowd.

Austin Aries vs. Samoa Joe: Great opener – not sure how it came across on TV but the crowd was loud. Sitting close to the ring, they were working extremely stiff. Aries’s dropkick connected square on Joe's jaw.

Hernandez vs. Kid Kash: I was surprised how into the match the crowd was given that neither has been on TV for a while. Though not as hot as the opener, once Hernandez hit his plancha over the top rope, the crowd was very into him.

Devon and Garett Bischoff vs. Robbie T and Robbie E: I expected the crowd to die down a bit for this one, but they didn’t. "We want Devon" chant broke out and the crowd was into his act. I know a lot of people question him having the TV title, but the live crowds both here and at the Impact Zone really seem to love him.

Mr. Anderson vs. RVD vs. Jeff Hardy: I’ve read elsewhere that Hardy received a lukewarm reaction, but I don’t think that could be further from the truth. Lot’s of "Let’s Go Hardy" chants throughout the match.

Crimson vs. James Storm: The crowd went absolutely ape shit for Storm and only even louder during his post match beer bash.

Hall of Fame announcement: Being right on the ramp, you could tell Sting was legit surprised/not prepared. Big "Thank you Sting" chants.

Miss Tessmacher vs. Gail Kim: This was the quietest the crowd was all night and they were still more into the match then crowds at recent WWE shows I have been to. Big reaction for the win in her hometown.

Christian got a good reaction, but I think it would have been stronger had they kept it a surprise.

AJ Styles and Kurt Angle vs. Kazarian and Daniels: By the end of this match, the crowd was rabid. Angles suplexes and Styles springboard shooting start to the floor were awesome.

Sting vs. Bobby Roode: The crowd was into this match the whole way. I half expected the match to be restarted after the beer bottle hit from Roode, but Sting still sent the crowd home happy with the Death Drop from the stage (I think he cracked his head on a step on the landing) and then Sting went five good minutes thanking the fans at ringside/posing in the ring.

On the way out, we saw Dixie again in her suite and she thanked us for coming again and asked if we had fun.

Overall, it was a great show – much better than a lot of WWE events I have been too and the arena a perfect size for TNA. I hope they come back in the near future.
