TNA News: Dixie Carter promises a change rather than a surprise, says the change is limited by budgetary constraints, comments on what Hulk Hogan has brought to the company and misconceptions about him Sep 10, 2010 - 12:01 PM
TNA president Dixie Carter sat down with Jeremy Borash during the TNA Bound For Glory Kickoff Special that was posted on their website on Thursday. The following are among the highlights.
Carter on her tweet regarding a game changing moment in TNA: "I'm glad you said the word change. It's not a surprise...I never said this was a surprise, I said this was a change. So on 10/7, that's when we'll start to unveil this change. We'll be making some changes between now and then, but there will be even more."
Carter responding to Billy Corgan's question regarding what change she would make if she had a magic wand: "If I could waive a magic wand and not have any budgetary constraints, I would do what I'm going to do on 10/7, but do it even bigger. I will do it on 10/7 with budgetary constraints, but maybe one day I can do it even bigger."
Carter on her fan-friendly approach at TNA events: I think it's just me. It's my personality. I love people and I'm a very appreciative person, and I know more than anybody else that TNA would not be where it is today without our fans. So it's my opportunity to get in front of people and shake their hands or hug them and say thank you, thank you for your support and listen to what they like. They truly have a voice. I take what they say back and we have made a lot of exciting changes based upon that. It means a lot to me personally to do it and it always has."
Carter on what Bound For Glory means to her: "I remember years ago when we came up with the name Bound For Glory. It means just that. We were really struggling to come up with what would be our Super Bowl of pay-per-views. We felt like Bound For Glory could not better symbolize where we were going, where we wanted to go. Today it still holds true. I don't care if we're the biggest wrestling company in the world, we can always be better."
Carter on Hulk Hogan's one-year anniversary in TNA approaching: "It's been great. He has been such an integral part of everything we do. He is at every agents meeting. He is at every production meeting. He is talking to the talent, meeting with them, helping them get better in the ring and the psychology on their matches and how they win and how they become stars. There's nobody better in the world to do that with. He's brought so much exposure to the brand. He's just been a great person to work with. It's been really good."
Carter on misconceptions about Hogan: "I think people thought he was in here for a payday and just to get some time on television. It's been the exact opposite. He has put so many hours in behind the scenes and traveling for the network and traveling for us, and helping us with licensing and doing media. He has been great and a big help for TNA."
Carter on TNA Reaction: "It is an amazing show. It really is. It's different than anything you've ever seen in wrestling. It's making us step up our game on Impact, which is really important. It's something I'm really proud of. It's a great show."
Powell's POV: Carter also had some in-character comments regarding the Rob Van Dam injury angle, Ric Flair and Fortune, etc. I didn't care for the mix of work and shoot, but this was shown on the company website, so it's understandable. If nothing else, Borash proved that he should handle the sitdown interviews for TNA. He was much more comfortable and relaxed than Mike Tenay is in these situations.
